Thanks a lot! Usually avoid songs with the E since I struggle big-time with it! First E looked really interesting. Chord changes to and from E is another hazzle, though that's another beast to conquer...
The E chord was a nightmaire at first... But now I must say my struggle is with Ab!!! Cheers from Montreal. Thank you for your awesome tips and your amazing attitude toward teaching :)
My pleasure & SO glad you're getting something more than only "where to put your fingers" ;-) that's very important of course… But the positive attitude we bring to our practice of course makes a big difference in our learning. Happy playing, Stu
FWIW, another option people may want to try (and there, are, of course, many) is 444x. It's very similar to your third example (4442), but rather than sneaking your index finger behind your other three fingers to press on the first string (which I can't, yet, do), you let the finger on the second string touch (aka mute) the first string. This is very similar to the D major chord most folks know (i.e., 3330), but it is up one fret and mutes the first string.
@@UkuleleZen I'm a very happy Ukulele Zen subscriber, Stuart. I was logged into youtube using my business account when I left the comment (oops!). You hooked me last year with "I Feel Good" by James Brown (ua-cam.com/video/RxJUT8bG08o/v-deo.html). It's still a work in progress for me, but the steeper the climb the more joyous the summit!
And when I get too tense on this E chord, I look in the background your vegetable garden... where I would also like to play....but at the gardener!...:) Merci pour tout Stu!
Thanks! The third one is my fav, esp the ring finger for 3 strings in a row. I am however going to practice the 'official' E. It's so difficult imo that it's a very good practice for the hand.
Thanks for sharing Chris! Fyi: There are song sheets, tablatures and other resources for my UA-cam ukulele lessons at my Patreon Page: www.patreon.com/ukulelezen
Can you please slow down a bit when you get to the finger positions? it takes us beginners time to get the position. I think you are one of the best teachers that I’ve listened to. I keep coming back to learn from you. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼
Sure…and THANKS FOR WATCHING 😊check out my live stream lessons on Sundays… You can watch them at my channel’s homepage. For the short videos, I keep it moving along… You can always pause and rewind and slow down the video by clicking the gear icon at the bottom of the video window
The E brought me here. This is my first video I have seen on this channel. "Ukulele Zen" - Nice name :) And i really like the intro music :)) Ommmmm.... :)))
Your videos are really informative... Thank you so much ❤️ could you please give us a quick tutorial on playing songs in the progression of minor chords for example songs in the key of C#m B A E
Thank you. For Tech Tuesday could you talk in more detail about muting a string as you did in the first E chord. How to do it, how to train your fingers to do that, etc. Also have you done a video on F to F minor? That change happens all the time in Ukulele World. All your vids are wonderful, thank you for your time and expertise.
Grazie Mia :) That's a great one for sure! You do hear that in so many tunes like "All of me", etc. muting: lightly lightly lightly is the key. I noticed on my Hi G uke in this video that if I don't FULLY mute that C string, the E chord sounds really...unique!
Good video. Over my head for now, I am a beginner. It would sure be easier if you showed a diagram of each cord as you demonstrated. I was writing them down in cord boxes for future practice and had to keep rewinding to get the frets you were using. Especially since none of my cord charts showed the cords you were using.
Hey there & thanks for watching - there are chord diagrams as I'm showing the chords... The idea is as I show them you pause the video, they're in them and then test your memory… You can always write them down on a piece of paper this will help you to memorize them. The diagrams are also in the thumbnail image those of the same ones I'm showing during the chord demo video. Thanks & be well, Stu
Ukulele Zen I had missed the ukulele boxes completely the first time through the video. Yes, they are there. Thank you, great video. Thank you for pointing out my error. I apologize to you for wasting your time on something you had covered.
Would be happy to do that. My intention is here is to show the most people something they can grasp easily - but for sure! Circle of fifths, minor chords...all coming. Be well & play on.
These are a nightmare, thanks for the help. I find it hard to feel relaxed while I'm trying to hold my ukulele (I'm sadly big chested and I'm still trying to find a way to feel comfortable)
🤔The 2 finger version doesn't sound like an E chord, and the other versions make it impossible for my fingers to be positioned comfortably. Is there not a more simplified version of the E chord?🤷♂️
B minor would be a good one for sure! FYI, I made a B-flat tutorial in the series...If you go to this channel’s homepage and scroll back through the videos you’ll find it I’m pretty sure it’s in the playlist for this entire series as well.

By far the best I've seen on how to unlock the E chord.
Thank you Ivan! Hope you'll share the video on social media so others can benefit :). Play on, Stu
Thank you so much for this video, you even put time markers, you're such a kind soul🥺🦒
Precious, precious, precious lesson ! Thanks a million
Thank you! This is so helpful😃. I'm also enjoying viewing the beautiful garden in the background🌞

Thank you for the helpful tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Thx for the higher voicing stu 👍🏻that's the one I use and thought for a minute there I was doing it wrong.
Right on Ian...good to hear from you.

We got a lot of good things growing here ;-). Merci!
Thanks so much!
Thank you! I think the 3d way will be my favourite.. and for now - the only way my fingers reach easilly :)

Smitty Kitty, (great band name btw) good on you for exploring E. Feel free to customize to your hands comfort 😊 Thanks for jamming along! 🤙🎶
Well done, very interesting. I liked it! (from a left hander in Liverpool u.k.) Thank You!
Glad to have you with us all the way from Liverpool!

One four five is cool Stu, maybe a series on the “circle” of fifths.transposing would be much easier with that knowledge

Awesome Stu!
Great thank you
Good day
Have a great day & happy playing!
Thanks
E major on guitar: 🤠🙌🏻😛😎🤣
E major on ukelele: 💀🤨😭🤯😵😵💫
You nailed it with this comparison! 😃🤙🎶
You make the second variant look easy. For the first variant, is it OK that the muffled string is still somewhat audible?
How do I stretch fingers to reach difficult chords
These are a nightmare, thanks for the help. I find it hard to feel relaxed while I'm trying to hold my ukulele (I'm sadly big chested and I'm still trying to find a way to feel comfortable)
My pinky does NOT reach to the forth fret of the third string. It really doesn't 😭. Is it normal?
Totally cool. You can play it 4442 with fingers 234 & 1
🤔The 2 finger version doesn't sound like an E chord, and the other versions make it impossible for my fingers to be positioned comfortably. Is there not a more simplified version of the E chord?🤷♂️

Yes! Thanks Beth
2 minutes in and nothing on the E chord !!
It’s in there…keep going my friend 🎶😊
Bad tutorial, still can't play E
Watch again and keep on trying my friend 🤙
Nope
Too fast
