I've just discovered your channel. Thanks for the great content.. quick question: I have been strumming down on the back of my index finger, then back up on the back of my thumb.. you've described the up stum on the pad of the index.. is there an advantage gained there? Why is on preferable over the other? Thanks!
@@UkuleleZen Thanks. But I have a question is the final dominant7 isn't V? My friend told me to find the final V7, and V7 ➡️ I, so I can find a key. But in this song D7 ➡️ A( IV7 ➡️ I ), so seems that method can't work in this song. How to find a key? this song is A major blues?
Hey Roger - I tend to use the soft flesh side of my thumb. It gives mellow tone. For a brighter sound I'll use my thumbnail - which I keep a little longer. Sometimes...the back of the thumbnail for an upstroke! Try out the difference in tone slowly at first...it's a cool effect to be able to control the tone. Thanks for watching & hope you'll subscribe to Ukulele Zen :) Be well, Stu
Good afternoon teacher! I have a question about the triplets. What I do is this. I strum down with index, follow down with my thumb but don't hit the strings and than i come up with my thumb and index both strumming the strings resulting in what also sounds like a triplet. Is this a less beneficail way to play them? Or is it more pattern based/song depending?
Hey there...thanks for watching - great channel name! Are you saying that you are leaving one of the triplets out? 1 (blank) 3 ? This would be another really cool rhythm to try out. If you meant to say that your thumb is missing the strings, try adjusting your hand placement so it will strike the strings when the thumb moves downward. Having a thumbnail helps. Whatever you do DON'T force anything. No emergencies here of course, but you want it to feel easy, yes? SO, practice making the motion while you make it in a soft & gentle way...this is "learning" easy :) this concept & other practices will be a part of my upcoming book "UKULELE ZEN" (the beginners method) - watch for it here! Finally, please note that there are other ways to play a triplet. What I'm showing here is a really good one however because it fits in so closely to good ol' down & up strumming. You dig? Ah, I knew you would. Over & out OmniStarchild...wishing you happy playing & be well, Stu
I've been strumming down with the index all the time and it is hard with the index. I keep hitting the strings in painful ways or they get caught up in my nails... Do you strum down with the index with the back of the finger as if you are sending something away or with the side?
So awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Unless i am missing something, it would be a great idea to have a tab saying something like Free Songsheet, so that when we try and follow your lessons , we will have the songsheet as well. Of course, the free songsheet might be there, but I just cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers and keep up the excellent work Stu.
Got to that link for the store & click on the logo where it says "FREE TABS & GOODIES". It'll take you to a list. I now offer tabs at my Patreon Page for a low monthly donation...but those first tabs (lots of them) are all there for you to enjoy. Jam on! Thanks for watching & hope you'll subscribe & ring the notification bell for more vids!
www.patreon.com/ukulelezen Thanks & play on. :-)
I've just discovered your channel. Thanks for the great content.. quick question: I have been strumming down on the back of my index finger, then back up on the back of my thumb.. you've described the up stum on the pad of the index.. is there an advantage gained there? Why is on preferable over the other? Thanks!
Is D blues key?
Key of A my friend.
How to find a key? this song is A major blues?
hi stu, are you using the side of your thumb on the downstroke? rog.
Thanks for watching & hope you'll subscribe to Ukulele Zen :) Be well, Stu
thanks stu!-------nice to have a quick reply, and yes, i do subscribe to your channel. regards, roger.
Do you strum down with the index with the back of the finger as if you are sending something away or with the side?
um not sure i can subscribe to someone this Cool! did anyway!
