Yes indeed. Found this recently and was really impressed - on my playlist with other similar new stuff for when I’m painting - really hard to find painting music material but this is f-in brilliant. I suppose the good thing about Spotify and other stuff similar is that you can find music like this I just hope the artists get paid ok for it. This guy is astounding
@lobopix Thank you so much, it means a lot to me, I didnt think that anyone would stumble upon this comment much less know what I'm talking about. But yes, the moment the song came up and I heard the music and the lyrics I was like yup this screams Marques, the ethereal vibe, the melody, the tragic ( one sided) love story. If they ever make one of his books into a movie I would love for this song to feature in the soundtrack, I would love for stonekings entire discography to feature but this song especially.
When I listened on radio in Greece I thought that the singer ...is a black people that sing jazz from decade of ' 40-50! What surprise ! Stoneking is simply a great artist of today's! Congratulations! 😊🎶🎵🎶💐
I happened to listen to this song in a music shop in Belgrade, Serbia, of all places. Nobody knew the title of this number or the performer's bane, I thought it was some old black guty way down in New Orleans. I memorised some of the lyrics, I googled a bit and to my surprise I found out : it was this incredibly talented guy from Down Under Luckily, I managed to get all his three albums. Love him, he's great, really great.
Just love it, to be honest first time i lstened to this song i thought it was an old recording (20's 30's) from a New Orleans or Luisina a brass band, cheers from México...
I can’t get enough of C. W. Stoneking. His voice, music and style blow me away time after time. I own two physical and two digital versions of each of his three albums, preying a fourth comes along soon... Amazing, hugely talented guy 🤩🤩🤩
Anyone here in 2025??? Damn that algorithm worked magic lol. Was listening to Chocolate genius and after the song abundance finished it automatically started this song!!! Great stuff!! Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
I purely heard CW on the radio and then spent about a YEAR trying to find WHO he was :( TOTALLY AMAZING TALENT AND AWESOME MUSICIAN! I need one of those dolls hes singing about for me ex wife :))) CW PLEASE COME TO GLASTONBURY???
Cara. Gostei.
Regarding the melody: does it have something to do with Calypso Queen by Calypso Rose? ua-cam.com/video/l-j-tPbOfYQ/v-deo.html Or is it just a traditional melody of caribbean blacks? Calypso may be? Anyone?
"C.W. Stoneking, is a musician who draws influence from pre-war blues, jazz, 1920s calypso, folklore, and personal experience to produce his original songs" ......INFLUENCE!??? ORIGINAL!!!!!??? REALLY? Sounds like calypso to me, sung with that stupid pretend accent that foreigners adopt when they sing any music from the Caribbean. His other music is pure imitation of the music black Americans sang...... over 50 years ago. "Best artist in the world today" ..PLEASE.... another imitator of black culture..like Elvis and all the others.
Australian, caucasian and well alive.. I was not expecting this..
I know, right? When I first heard him I thought he was a 60-year-old black man from Louisiana.
@@grahamkristensen9301 I thought of a Lead Belly-type of guy
This song inspired me to smoke
hahahha....delightful
Check out the teskey brothers.same kind of surprise
Anyone says today's music is no good, isn't looking hard enough
Yes indeed. Found this recently and was really impressed - on my playlist with other similar new stuff for when I’m painting - really hard to find painting music material but this is f-in brilliant.

The story telling of this song is truly a masterpiece
It reminds me of Gabriel Garcia Marques for whatever reason, magic realism

Just discovered him, excellent stuff. He sounds like someone slipped some Tom Waits in his Vegemite.
Hahahhaah
He mixes vegemite into his smokes. Makes it healthy.

Me too! I was stunned! Stoneking it's amazing!
Discovered him almost 10 years ago and to this day I enjoy listening at his music smelling New Orleans from the 20/30's
I can’t get enough of C. W. Stoneking. His voice, music and style blow me away time after time. I own two physical and two digital versions of each of his three albums, preying a fourth comes along soon... Amazing, hugely talented guy 🤩🤩🤩

C.W is one of the great storytellers of songwriting, for sure
2019 and still great.
I can't define what draws me to C.W. but it's extraordinary.

He sings like black people do
Listened to this about 100 times now - well, not this but the studio version - brilliant
was fortunate enough to catch him in Los Angeles a couple of times, immensely talented performer/songwriter
Great to hear this guy with his NT Aussie drawl , perfect for bluesy calypso, trad.
Can’t explain it but I Love it. Just fabulous.
Brilliant - thought it was from the 50’s America

Wow! What a pleasant surprise! Just discovered this song by accident and now I can’t stop listening to his music. 🖤
Thanks for pointing in another wonderful direction

Perfect❤
terrific....great performer
This song is so well crafted 👍
Everyone is missing the influence here, not Tom Waits or Dr. John. Look up Lord Executor + Lord Invader. Old calypso, Caribbean singers.
Leon redbone
Wilmoth Houdini - black but sweet

Stoneking 😱
Hikayesi nedir bu parçanın?
Anyone know what the groove is called?
Calypso is probably what you're looking for. This is kind of a dirty jazz-calypso hybrid.
It's the song from Calypso Queen, by Calypso Rose
Regarding the melody: does it have something to do with Calypso Queen by Calypso Rose?
ua-cam.com/video/l-j-tPbOfYQ/v-deo.html
Or is it just a traditional melody of caribbean blacks? Calypso may be?
Anyone?
hi, me too trying to guess who insipered who.
manu chao , calypso queen or the excellent voice i discovered this evening c.w. stoneking?
Lots of Tom Waits and Dr John in there Great
agree. go to see him
Note for note his General Douglass MacArthur song
When listening to this you expect some older African American man from New Orleans but surprise its some young white dude from australia.
Anyone else wanna hear him weaving with Dave?
He is very white for this voice 😅
waay too wiight brother
Don't be a racist! 🤣
Poor Matilda you forgot to take the ring
Josh Homme brought me here
Of course you can continue your education.
I thought this was a 1950s argentinian or mexican song
$hile 🇨🇱💀🔥💉💊🚬
Cigarettes fear him
what type of crack did they put into this goddamn
He tries to be a Swordfishtrombones Tom Waits, but he ain’t
Swear I thought he was black and the guy on his jungle blues cover was just a stand in don't @ me
When he smokes cigarettes get cancer
These lyrics sound like it could be the incel anthem! XD

The world is less bleak and boring for it. I thank him for celebrating the old calypso n more.
