  • A customer brought in a watch to repair and i saw that the circular border around the chronograph had dislodged. It was stuck in the hands which prevented the hands to move. So i take off the back only to find out that the last person who installed the battery had damaged the battery holder. I had permission to take the circular border out and throw it so i did that while fixing the battery holder too. This watch retails for $200 and it takes a 364/365 battery.

Hi. I was wondering if you could help me.
    You mentioned Michael Kors…
I have a ladies MK watch that the hands have dropped off because the mechanism was tugged.
I’ve removed the crown, the plastic frame and the mechanism but the dial will not come out.
I can get it to turn a tiny fraction but other than that, there is no movement to it.
The front bezel is a sealed piece so it doesn’t come open from the front.
How do I remove the dial to be able to get in between the crystal and dial face to retrieve the hands??
    Many thanks.

If I can't take out the watch mech from the back, I would carefully use a sharp knife to remove the bezel. Breaking the crystal would be my last choice, and I'd do it gently. If the crystal has a gasket around it, I would break the crystal to replace it. Otherwise, I won't continue to damage it any further.

The front is totally sealed. It’s just the crystal and the case, there’s no where to open it from the front.
The mechanism was so loose that when trying to remove the battery, the mech lifted so easily and the hands just popped off.

I have a similar Fossil watch with leather straps. I got the battery changed twice. The first time I got it changed the watch was working fine. After a while I saw that two of the rings came out similar to what is shown in the video and that made the watch hands get stuck. So I took the watch to a local repair shop and got it taken out and had the battery changed. After that both the minute and hour hands aren't working. But the second hand is still ticking without the time ever being changed. So is my watch beyond repair now? The repair shop owner denies any mistakes from his part and he says he can't repair it as he doesn't have the required materials for this watch. I am so disappointed

Hi, when the rings got stuck, it messed up the timing of the hands. All you have do is have any repair shop take the hands out and re install them. Should work fine after that.

If you had reattached the loose ring what adhesive would you have used?

You can use silicone watch lube or any petroleum jelly

Don’t use adhesive on the gasket. Use a lubricant
