    Great video man ! I will do it on mine soon to see the difference in shifting

      It does feel a lot smoother, depends on when the oil was last changed 😂👍🏻

      I did mine about a year ago, the Nulon bags that SuperCheap sell make it a way easier job. Bunnings has 17mm 1/2" hex bits if you need one too.
      If you want to get the VW recommended 2L in there you might need to plug the hole with your fingers while getting the last bit in and do a quick switcheroo with the plug.

      It’s well worth it mate 👍🏻

    Yeah I put in redline when I first got my 9n3 made a big difference in shifting. Probably because the car never had a gearbox oil replaced.

      Yeah that is my plan! I should have put it in now to be honest but it’s my own fault I didn’t check the prices of it 😂

    Best if you use safety gloves, oil not good for your skin, but good work.
    Was car level when re filling gearbox, ?

    • @CarsandEngineering
      @CarsandEngineering  Рік тому +1

      I did have gloves on but once they rip or tear i normally just tear them off my hands haha
      yeah car was as level as it could be when refilling the gearbox oil.

    My 1st to 2nd crunch’s on my 2008 polo gti, I can’t find anyone who rebuilds them or a replacement box. Any help or info ?

    • @CarsandEngineering

      Have a look at the shifter bushes, I have a video on them on the channel, if these wear then they can cause bad shifting.
      Also check engine mounts for excessive movement they could be making the engine/gearbox rock when pulling off which makes 1st to 2nd crunchy.
      Also try change the gear oil for the gearbox if you do a change I think there’s links in the description of the video for some good stuff, (redline gear oil I think)
      Where abouts are you located ? The uk or somewhere else ?

      @@CarsandEngineering yes uk buddy I’ve just got oil from vw for 2ltr at £16 a litre, I’ll check the mounts and the bushes, I originally thought gear linkage but seen a lot about the synchro, I’ll check all of these. Thank you mate

      the vw oil is good but its been said its a little too thin, the redline stuff is alot thicker so im told and therefore better, see how it gets on with the new oil and if its still a bit crunchy then try invest in the redine stuff mate

    My box is leaking slightly, without looking are the shaft seals easy to get do you know?

    • @CarsandEngineering
      @CarsandEngineering  2 роки тому

      Hello, do you know it’s the shaft seals for definite?
      They are kind easy to get to you’ll need to drop the shafts out themselves and you’ll need to take the spline ends out too it’s a bit of a job but it’s not rocket science
      Have a good look on the the internet try get some workshop manuals and really do your research on tools etc needed that’s the best advice I can give you good luck 👍🏻

    How many bottles of the redline oil would you need for this mate?

    • @CarsandEngineering
      @CarsandEngineering  3 роки тому +1

      You’d need at least 2 litres of the stuff which kinda sucks because redline only make there stuff in 0 .95 litre bottles, so unfortunately you’ll need three of the small bottles, good luck 👍🏻

      @@CarsandEngineering Thanks, I get a crunch sometimes from 1st to 2nd gear in higher rpm and had read that changing transmission oil to redline helps

    • @BeemerTwelve
      @BeemerTwelve 2 роки тому

      @@CarsandEngineering It doesn't have to be redline, VW has its own brand (probably made by someone else) which comes un 1l bottles so you don't have to buy three.

    • @CarsandEngineering
      @CarsandEngineering  2 роки тому

      @@BeemerTwelve You're right you don't need redline but it is the most recommended with most of the 1.8T boys.
      The standard stuff is ok to use but my recommendation would be redline as its a lot thicker and does in my opinion make the gearbox a lot smoother and more quiet.

    • @BeemerTwelve
      @BeemerTwelve 2 роки тому +1

      @@CarsandEngineering You may be right. It's a shame you have to buy three bottles and use only like 10% of the third one and have it lying around for years until the next oil change comes. Those things bug me.
