@@tangbein nah, Ajax was clearly listed as the second best Achaean only to Achilles himself. How Achilles has been remembered, purely by his weakness, is not a testament to his weakness itself; rather it is an irony of the testament to the fact that he was so mighty that the only part of him that could get hurt was his heel. Ajax had fought hector twice, once to a draw and the other hector had disarmed Ajax, yet it is well versed in many versions (including the Iliad) of the Trojan War accounts that Achilles had easily beaten Hector. One interesting individual of note: The real shame is the fact that no mention of Diomedes is ever really made in popular culture, that man actually wounded the goddess Aphrodite and the god of war himself, Ares, all in a single day on the field of battle. He was one of only two mortals that had been given the power to hurt the gods (Athena gave it to him so that he would challenge Aphrodite, as a game to her). Hercules (Heracles) was the only other given that same power and not even with the might and blood of Zeus did he accomplish such a feat. Hercules was a demigod, yet Diomedes was a mere mortal.

Which is so weird as Achilles seems as though he would respect hector as an embodiment of that which he taunts ameganemon to be, a king who fights his own battles. Not only does hector fight his own battles he fights every battle, not because he wants to or has a death wish. just to protect that which he loves. He fought for troy and all his people, he fought for paris even when he was in the wrong, he fought for helen and silently accepts her apology before going out to fight and eventually die to Achilles, and after all of achilles rage, he still comes to respect and weep over the killing of such a prime example of a man/prince. Even when hector is preparing to fight achilles in the case he looses, he tells his dad that he hopes he did everything right by him and honors him. Tells his brother exactly what he needed to hear to encourage him, told his wife where to go should the city fall to ameganemon. And as mentioned before him and helen have a silent conversation before he walks out

Man this fight gave me chills. Was incredible how he demolished a kings might and said is there no others.
The coolest part of this, Nestor going over and telling Achilles that he can end this with a single swing of his sword, the songs they would sing of him. Achilles immediately drops the spear and kills the big man with one swing of his sword.

I loved his fighting style, the way he moves in Troy. 😍
I love the way he says "He's not my king" like Achilles says wouldn't it be something if "Kings" were to fight their own battles, much like today when politicians can't agree and threaten war, let them fight it out and thousands of ordinary people will live. 👍
When 13 Marines lost their lives in Afganistan , our 'so-called leader' could only check his watch while their bodies were being unloaded from the plane! Apparently, he was more concerned about missing his cocktail party . Imagine if that was your son or daughter in those caskets!

@@tangbein Nah, Achilles is more famous by far

"Imagine a king who fights his own battles, wouldnt that be a sight"-Achilles
This line is so crucial since later on we see a prince/leader who commands his army and fights to protect that which he loves(hector). And as mentioned before him and helen have a silent conversation before he walks out
imagine a few dogs eating you or that your order is denied..or what you say is "access denied:"
Achilles words still stands. Hector heroic he may be, still not a king. But you see when the king came to Achilles tent to claim his son's body, Achilles shows him respect

Honestly so many older movies that got a mediocre reception when they came out seem like masterpieces in retrospect. Compared to the absolute garbage being produced today we really can appreciate the craft and effort that went into the films back then. Waterworld is another that comes to mind -- panned by critics and did horrible box office, but now seems like a brilliantly crafted epic, thanks to it's incredible practical effects, unique story, and movie-star cast. None of which we see in modern movies anymore.
