@@dylives7667 As someone who has frequently visited the r/EDP445 subreddit since the sting happened, I can guarantee you that they would have moved on from EDP if he hadn’t doubled down and taunted everyone. Now he’s paying for it.
EDP legitimately threw his life away for his "cupcake". He spent his whole life building a reputation and threw it away in less than a day.

The cupcake video is what seals it for me. It proves that not only did he know EXACTLY what he was doing, BUT ALSO that he doesn't take it seriously that being an adult and attempting to have a sexual/romantic relationship with a CHILD is WRONG on all fronts. So not only did he show that he doesn't think it's wrong, he showed that he thinks it's something to make a joke out of and that is a level of disgusting that I've rarely seen, even from some other incredibly horrible people. Good take Muta. Not a lot of people can grasp the nuances of situations like this and how things can spiral out of control as a result of vigilante-type actions that aren't thought through. We can only hope that one day he admits to what he has done and justice prevails.
EDIT: Looks like he did actually admit to some things - guess I missed those mentions when I first watched this while doing other stuff. It's still a horrible series of events no matter how you look at it.

Thanks for the level-headed and nuanced perspective Muta. People think if you’re against vigilante justice, you’re sympathizing with EDP. There is no way to regulate what people metting out this “justice” do. Hopefully he has some remorse for what he did, turns himself in and gets help.

agreed with everything you said, and this is really off topic but nobody gets “help” in prison. they’re institutionalized, beaten down and rarely cast back out into society. prisons are not a place of repair, and the narrative that you’ll get the rehabilitation you need in prison typically covers up the atrocities that do take place. it’d be even harder for edp because of his crimes. he wouldn’t remain alive for more than a month or two. thanks for the great vid muta

I know because I have had my name legally changed:
If there is even PENDING litigation against you, your name change docket will be denied. If the court SUSPECTS your name change is to avoid prosecution or punishment, it will be denied. There is also a MANDATORY 30 day waiting period after the petition is filed. The petition has to be published in the local newspaper with the intended change of name included. If his name change were approved or even made it through court it would have been obvious and his new name would havee been public information. This is inplace so that people such as debt collectors can find the new name of a person who might be trying to escape debts through a name change.
My petition never had to go through the local newspaper, and I didn't have a mandatory 30 day waiting period, just had the time it took to mail the petition and then get the response from the court. It may vary from state to state, but notifying the bank, doctors, insurance company, etc. about the name change was my responsibility.
I'm wanting to legally change my name so I'm gonna keep this comment thread in mind

Nah they don't always get immediately beat down. The police will try to hide their charges and put them in gen pop in most jails. Inmates will get your paperwork tho and they will find out your real charges. I have seen it happen. Old boi was in for a murder but the SA charges were not listed or something when the fellas on the block got word about it the entire block beat the brakes off the dude and left him in a pile on the bars for the cops to clean up.
On one hand, I do not condone harassment of anyone. On another hand, the US justice system is disgustingly inefficient when it comes to sx crimes. Vigilantes wouldn’t be actively ruining his life if the police actually did something about his predator behavior.

no justice system is perfect. Even the most peaceful country are not safe from corruption and/or biased views of what they define as "justice", and sadly there's more people like EDP that got away with it than those who was faced with the proper punishment and reformation.
Blaming it all onto the governments we, the normal citizens that choose said governments changes nothing. we should focus to scrub away these problems of course, yet it is a very difficult task to do so that would take years or if there would be any changes at all. It is easy for us to talk all about changes here, while some corrupt people out there who has the law enforcement in their pockets victims on our children. I see the only way now is to just educate our children and observe them closely with who they socialize with.

Maybe if the people who did the sting operation had actually chosen to involve the police rather than trying to confront EDP, he would have actually gone to jail. Instead they blew it for views, let EDP know he should get a lawyer with their stunt, and didn't tell the police shit beyond trying to call them as EDP was walking away. They could have easily gone to the police with the evidence yet by that point it wouldn't do much good. Really - what did they think would happen?

Sadly EDP has no chance of getting proper rehab. In the US, our system I built around punishment. And from what I heard, sex offenders and/or criminals that hurt women and children get the worst treatment. Like, 3am with both holes plugged all night treatment.
There is no sympathy for people who do that to children.

You kinda nailed why I'm not a fan of the Hansen style of predator catching. Yes, the people being outed are heinous and absolutely need to be investigated or surveyed. But the legal system is an Iron Maiden maze and one wrong step can nuke the entire process. Everyday folk can have the best intentions and it will still backfire spectacularly, sometimes even worse than for the people they expose.

EDP isn’t in jail. I have received calls from inmates many many times over the years and it never comes up as a private number. It comes up as the company running the system for example “Securis”
Philipe is already a morally questionable individual in regards to his knowledge of EDP's actions, and lying about ending association with him. IMO I believe that EDP and Philipe basically conspired to put that video out so that the vigilantes believe he's in prison and stop going after him.
Well, at least UA-cam has done something great. But when it comes to chasing child predators, you should get law enforcement involved.

I believe he'll never go to jail. I heard that the police won't help and will tell those online vigilantes to not get involved. They actually say the vigilante will get in more trouble than the predator. That's how it is in my town. It's basically saying that something terrible needs to happen for the law enforcement to get involved.

2:45 This is exactly why I am against these vigilante for views channels. Absolutely, 100%, against them. They all claim to be doing good. Some even have stories like the host has personal experience and this is their benevolent way of preventing monsters from harming kids. Some will claim they have a near perfect conviction rate.. The truth is, the vast majority of the time (even if an arrest is initially made) the cases get thrown out because any confession could be seen as under duress (most of the time these guys don't confess they just run away) and chatlogs can be considered innadmissible. Sometimes its not enough to make a case.. sometimes if any case is made, its something the offender pleads out of and immediately gets released back onto the street with a slap on the wrist (likely wiser and less likely to get caught, trapped or ambushed next time).
Police already have their own private sting operations for this sort of thing. They can make sure things are done by the book. They know how to go about communication to pile on as many charges as they can. They likely have a district attorney that knows of the operation and is waiting on standby. They can arrest them at the scene..take down information.. file reports.. You going to the police and dropping chatlogs and video recordings in their lap is just poisoning the well. And you better believe if they are busy dealing with tons of other cases, your "evidence" is getting put at the bottom of the list because it wasn't gathered by police in the proper way and as far as they are concerned could be a waste of time.
Just let the police deal with it. Trust me, they are. You just don't hear about it because they don't do it for attention.

I've heard that Norwegian prisons are a lot better than American ones, giving them a comfortable life similar to before they were behind bars, getting them actual help, etc. And as a result they have a higher success rate at keeping the person out of prison after their sentence, which makes me wonder why American prisons don't adopt their approach.

@@vulturesalesman you’re correct, most nordic countries operate this way. pretty much same thing here in finland with prisons. here it’s all about getting people help so they can return to society and contribute to it, thing is sometimes its all for nothing so it’s a gamble. prisons are expensive to upkeep and here especially. some have hotel level stays, most have better food than schools and free going to hobbies, etc. all depends on the type of prison, location and crime severity.
this however is not always a good thing. lots of bad people abuse this system. first time offenders get half the sentence and life sentence here is 14-17 years (something like that). of course there is supposed to be a punishment of sorts to make people realize the effect of their actions, again, some people learn and some don’t. it’s complicated and this is just my take on it.
i personally think edp445 needs to go behind bars, and i completely agree with muta on why he should.

As a paralegal I can respect what these predator catching channels are trying to do and I personally agree that sometimes citizens must take matters into their own hands where law enforcement fails to apply. Unfortunately, from a professional standpoint, I can assure you that most of the preds they catch are out and back to doing what they were doing within 72h, no matter what evidence (chatlogs, call recordings, dickpics, admission of guilt, etc...) is presented to law enforcement. The only difference now is that the preds will be sneakier and won't get caught as easily next time. What they are trying to do is noble, but they are doing it outside of the legal channels and therefore they are doing it wrong.
