I've driven Subaru's for over 20 years, and Sweetie mentioned something that is usually "overlooked". I often hear about the low center of gravity afforded by the boxer engine, but it also gives a lower hood line, which makes visibility better than comparable vehicles.
I own a 21 Subaru Ascent and a 22 Subaru Outback. I love the Ascent. One thing I would like to mention is it doesn’t have the automatic start/stop button. This is my favorite feature. I hate every new car with that. An over looked hidden cost on all new cars is technology repair. I like the 8” screen on my Ascent that cost $1,000 to replace versus the 12” screen on my Outback that costs $4,000 to replace. The front cameras are $3,000 each to replace. I also like having traditional HVAC knobs on the Ascent versus fumbling around in a touchscreen to change air temperature. I love the ability to drive on the beach with all Subarus because of the 9 inch clearance. I have ordered a 22 onyx edition Ascent as a replacement for my new Outback.
I agree about the auto stop start feature. I freaks me out.
Same - owned a 22 wilderness outback and got rid of it for an Ascent and much happier if for anything to get rid of that huge screen with everything buried in it (including seat heaters)

That cupholder insert goes in the front row by the shifter, but it only goes in one way. Subaru started tossing it in with most of the option packages because the original cupholder molds let smaller cups and bottles rattle around too much :)

I own a 2019 Ascent. Zero problems in 35,000 miles. Quiet, comfortable. The CVT is fine in daily driving. It averages 21-25 mpg, depending on the season and the kind of driving.

I'll pile on here. We have 3 years and 40k miles on our 2019 Ascent. We didn't have any of the trouble of the recalls so quick trips to the dealer for recall updates and normal maintenance was it. The car drives great. A very comfortable road tripping car with 2 Kids and a dog. Average MPG here is 22 city and 26-27 highway depending on headwind. I have towed a fair bit with the car as well and it has handled it without much fuss.

It is great to see 3 knobs used as part of the HVAC system. That means 3 functions which do NOT require taking ones Flying Eyes off the road to locate some position on a screen. (Or worse yet, having to first switch to the appropriate screen and then search.)
Just bought one last night, The Onyx addition is great and the Autumn Green is very nice. I have 3 kids and they enjoyed the ride and they had plenty of room.. I'll provide a review in 6 months, after the snow is gone.. Great video

Thanks for this video, I have a 2021 Ascent, with just over 29k. I came from a 2020 Forester base model that I drove from 0-32k. I have to drive a lot for work, but we upgraded to the Ascent Premium because we also wanted something for a both a growing family and good vehicle to take my equipment for work.
Fuel consumption is the first buzz kill for me. The Forester was great. I'm not a fast driver, and the Forester would give me 40-50 mpg. (again it's mostly hwy because I drive from state to state for work). But the Ascent is 25 -30 mpg hwy. This is neither a good or bad thing, just something that I miss with the Forester.
3rd row was another buzz kill for me. We have a car seat for our baby girl in the second row, and when having adults move to the third row, we find it a little too small for them. Probably best for only kids in the 3rd row.
Although I'm a gentle driver, I do like that the power is there when I need it. The Forester was so slow, difficult to pass other vehicles. The Ascent has more than enough power to pass others by and to get home in hurry when needed. The Forester felt like I was stressing the engine when trying to go fast or traveling at higher hwy speeds.
No issues yet. When you want to do your own maintenance, oil changes, filter changes, battery , etc... all Subaru's are great for DIY'ing because everything is easily accessible. And the turbo charged engines don't have a cover.
You deserve way more subscribers. I don't how this channel doesn't have 400k or more. Keep up the great work.
We just got our 2022 Ascent Onyx yesterday and (sorry to disagree) but the CD player is GOLDEN!! I know that the GenX-ers and Millennials are going to blow this up but there is music that are on "albums/cd's" that you simply can't/don't get with the "digital" channels...PLUS for those of us "of a certain age" and experience-level, we know how AWSOME the sound of AN ALBUM is and we like to listen to the scratches, bumps, and hisses of "older, classic" music. This is why record players and vinyl albums are making such a HUGE comeback! Do we have digital music, of course, but there's something about listening to the "John Denver, "Poems, Prayers and Promises" ALBUM that HAS NO EQUAL! The rest of the features are simply incredible. This vehicle is MADE to take outdoors and be rugged with. From hiking to kayaking, the only vehicle that can to more is my Ford 4x4 dually. From the multitude of cup-holders to the moonroof to the weather-proofing the seats, take this vehicle out and USE IT!! Couldn't be happier!!
No matter who makes the car, everyone complains about the THIRD ROW SEAT!!! It drives me crazy because normally no one ever sits there! I think the dash and "carbon" looking trim looks great! I appreciate the intercooler turbo that kicks in when you want it to. 275 hp is great out of a a 4 cylinder engine. My Ascent drives like a dream and I would never go without all of the eyesight technology I've been using since 2019. Awesome ALL WHEEL DRIVE , X-,MODE and more. Heated seats, yum, outstanding tri level a/c for me in Florida! This Ascent is a keeper.
What are your thoughts on the 3rd row so far? Do you use it much? We are thinking of trading our minivan in for an Ascent. We have 3 kids in child seats (soon to be a 4th).

I think what I like so much about the Subaru is that it doesn't pretend to be something it's not. It's functional, utilitarian, and in many ways, simple.
And it looks like the Ascent is much the same.
IMO, if you want style, you don't necessarily go Subaru. That's not what Subaru is in it for. Go buy the CX50 if you want a Lexus interior. That car definitely looks more opera than outback.
If you want to pull a 24 foot MasterCraft behind you, don't buy a Subaru. That's not what Subaru is making a claim for anyway.
If you don't like the CVT engine because it's not powerful enough, then don't get a Subaru.
If you want a full-size laptop slapped on your dashboard for uber-techie purposes, don't buy a Subaru. That's not their goal.
I guess in my research on Subies over the last few months, it seems that the critiques generally center around the same things. Things that Subaru isn't really laying claim to, or pretending to be, anyway.
It's what your preferences are at the end of the day. Subaru either meets those requirements or it doesn't.
Seems that Subaru is pretty content with what they're doing, for the most part, and have quite a fanbase. Regardless of what some might have on their wish list for Subaru. Or critique it for.
Really like mine. Traded an Outback. Can't beat SUV space. Value for $$$ is unbeatable. Feel safe & comfortable in any situation. Can fit sooo much in my little pretend 2nd in the family pickup that it's worth it's weight in gold. Never run out of space for whatever I'm shopping for!!!

Had one and sold it after 10 months. Couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Thank God for the good used market and I didn't lose a lot of money.

@@daoyang8919 CVT, constant chiming and beeping, mediocre ride quality, not enough power, bad breaking, etc.
Wonder if it was a lemon. Our CVT works perfectly, I disabled the annoying seatbelt chime. Ride quality is smooth, power after turbo spool is insane and the brakes are almost too strong.
Hubby and I just traded my beloved 2010 Honda Accord EX 🥹for a 2022 Subaru Ascent Limited trade-in with very low mileage.
Wanted a sporty SUV that had all the bells and whistles and this one fit the bill. We had rented an Outback out west and loved the large retractable sun roof which it had been in the back of my mind when we were “just browsing “ the dealerships one day.
This one had everything we needed and wanted so we tested it out and took it home!
Love it so far.

Thank you for pointing out how the latch takes over two seats, the low entry point for the kiddos, and how he second row door opens wide. And the all important elbow position point's when driving. The other two review channels I follow miss theses key factors for me.
This is my daily family hauler. It does the job, it’s comfortable, and it’s spacious. I actually enjoy it more than my X7 as this suv can take a beating and still looks great. Oh, it fits a 75” tv as long as the box is not more than 45” wide.

Bought mine home last Tuesday. No big rides yet, but loving it! I wanted an Outback but couldn’t get one now with 2023 models coming out in a couple months. My husband mentioned the Ascent because it’s larger. I had not thought of it. We went in to see the Dealer and this was parked in front of the the door. They happened to have three that morning so I got to choose. In an hour they all sold. Good timing. It looks like a Large Outback to me and I like that. Big in our garage with our Chevy Tahoe.
There’s no lull of power delivery in a CVT. That’s not how CVT tech works. There is, however, a lull in a turbo engine’s power production below the RPMs where the turbo spool engages (turbo lag). There is, however, a delay in low end engagement in some dual-clutch automatics.
The reason why Toyota out in a real first gear in Aisin CVTs is for durability. The torque strain put on a transmission to get a car going from a stop is immense. That tends to wear down a friction machine like a CVT, causing excess heating and premature failures. A real first gear takes that strain off the CVT cone.
They need to bring back the tough 6cyl
Hmmm appearance-wise, I would say the Ascent looks much more like a Forester than the wagon-like Outback.

After my father said no one needs a vehicle this big when I purchased my 2022 limited he traded up his 2016 Forrester to a gently used 2019 certified ascent premium. I swapped out of a 2022 outback as I wanted more buttons and more space as a tall person my partner fell in love with the tester that we drove so he swiped out of his 2018 out back into a fresh off the lease 2020 limited ascent. Basically what we’re saying is that it’s a great vehicle and they now dominate our family. The remainder of the family has a 2019 Forrester, a 2020 legacy in the 2021 outback.
The “lurching” and off the line hesitation isn’t because of the CVT. This engine has a twin scroll turbo that has to spool up to engage and add boost, meaning that when you first put your foot down it won’t have even close to full power. That “lurching” is the turbo finally engaging and adding boost.

We owned Subarus for 10 years. We leased a 2019 Ascent Premium in this Abyss blue back in July of 19. While we loved how it drove, rode, and how comfortable it was, we had brake rotor issues from the beginning and the trans started acting up. We loved this car and really wanted to buy the lease out, but we didn’t trust the long term reliability especially since they couldn’t figure out the brake issue. After only 7,200 miles we sold it carvana earlier this year and bought a highlander hybrid. Aside from the space, we haven’t looked back. The Ascent has really brought Subarus reliability down.
That's your opinion. Not the rest of the world. Its still a Subaru and it still is reliable. Just because you had issues, doesn't mean ALL of them have issues.

@@alphaares6027 It depends on which year and make. Just do your research before buying a used car or leasing a car, and you won't have any issues. I bought a 2012 Outback Limited and it's at 100,000 miles still going strong. Just did synthetic oil changes every 5,000 miles

An important thing to consider is the 2019 was the first model of the ascent (to my knowledge at least) and they had to figure out what the issues were with it, which is the case for all new models of cars despite maker or model type. The 21/22 ascents don’t have the same issues as the first releases because they’ve had time to adjust and correct those things, and being the reliability back up to its usual level for Subaru

Have had over 92 new cars ranging from exotics to Honda Accord‘s I’ve enjoyed all your reviews from Kelley blue book to your family because you’re doing a nice job I enjoy the family format that you’re using lately the one thing that you didn’t touch on the Subaru ascent they all have very poor brakes
To be clear, braking is incredible in ours but the factory stock rotors warp easily. I have all new aftermarket rotors ready to go in that will resolve that, hopefully.

were looking at trading in our 2014 Outback 2.5i for an Ascent in the near future.. After I replace my well-aged 2005 Subaru Legacy GT.
As said below. The cupholder inert goes in the "main" cupholders in the front. There is a UA-cam video that goes over how to install it. I have a 21 Touring model and it came installed.

We just bought this over the Honda Odyssey. It managed to be more 3 car seat friendly than a minivan with more safety features.
We have a 2021 Touring. It checks all the boxes for our family. Great SUV!
Hope they have fixed their quality issues.
My neighbors, who have been serial Subaru owners for decades, leased one two years ago and it has been a constant stream of issues from minor to major.
They also own a Crosstrek , which while not as troublesome as the Ascent, has had it's share of issues in the 18 months they've owned it.
They said when the lease is up on these two vehicles they're buying Toyotas or Hondas.
Sadly, no. It actually seems they’re getting worse. Lots of cost-cutting to keep the company solvent.
Have a 2020 Ascent now with over 30k miles. Not a single issue to date. Waited a full year for 2020 release to work out the inevitable issues upon launching a new model and glad I did. Would purchase again. All the buttons and knobs look busy, but so much better than touch screen only controls especially for HVAC.
I call BS on anyone who "knows someone"... We HAVE had WRX's, (3), Crosstreks (2), and an Outback... We traded our '19 Outback for the new gen Crosstrek with the 2.5 engine and love it... EVERY Subie we've had has had ZERO problems and traded them in with 90k-110k miles and got high trade-in values- In fact the '19 Outback was purchased for $27k and with 89k miles, we got $21k for it.... The BIGGEST benefit to the Crosstrek is that it's 100% made in Japan....
@@hankgs I call BS on all anecdotal evidence, including your stories. Statistics tell a FAR more accurate story and statistics show that Subarus are about average, with some models being just above, and some just below average. There are well-known Subaru issues and they do change through the years.

When you drive it hard like that, the Highlander V6 will sadly get you about 16.
Love my 2020 Ascent Limited! The cup holder insert actually goes in place of the stock front row cup holders bottom. Whoever PDI-Ed did not install it correctly.

Considering the affection Subaru owners have for the brand, the dismal sales of Ascent are something of a mystery. Of all mainstream midsize SUVs, the Ascent exceeds only the even more dismal sales of the Mazda CX-9. It trails every other 3 row midsize SUV, a category of about a dozen models. Perhaps it's the result of the Subaru's offer of only a 4 cylinder engine option in a large vehicle. (That's a trait shared with the even slower selling CX-9). Or perhaps the combo of a 4 cylinder engine with a CVT is the problem. In any case, the 19 cupholders hasn't been the sales plus that Subaru hoped for.
The issues I think with the engine in the first model year probably dissuaded people from buying one which might equate to the low sales. There were a lot of recalls, almost as if Subaru wasn't ready for prime time just yet. I would say that most of the time first-year models are always going to be trouble with reliability and they usually get better through each iteration. Subaru drivers also really like Subaru since it's known to be a reliable brand so when they were issuing all sorts of recalls, that didn't help the Ascents reputation. We'll see how it does in for the next few years.
They never should have stopped making the rugged 6 cylinder thease 4 cylinder turbo or not struggle il keep my older tribeca

This vehicle is very appealing. I surf, ski, mtn bike, etc, and I can pile gear and humans into this quite well. The awd will take my tribe to the snow with confidence. For as large as this is, it also has great mpg. If I wanted something that looks cool, I’d buy a Jeep Wrangler ( but have poor mpg, no visibility, negligible safety, and nearly no reliability). 👍👍
Needs a 360 degree camera? It comes with it, it's called mirrors and windows. People need to forget about screens and actually know their surroundings
You have to remember that 90% of drivers have their side mirrors adjusted incorrectly, for parking as opposed to driving, so they are seeing duplicate images of cars in both their center rear view mirrors as well as the side ones instead of capturing their blind spots. Tilt your side mirrors outwards almost to their extents (depending on your height) to basically eliminate your blind spots. And then actually use them along with that very simple to actuate lever on the left of your steering wheel. It’s easy, trust me.

We have the 2022. I've discovered that highway MPG is heavily dependent on your speed. At 72, you'll find the claimed 26mpg. At 80 forget it...drops to like 21.
Well yes, all car mpg benchmark is tested at 55-60 MPG for highway.
And since it's a turbo engine, don't go crazy on the gas at stop light. If you exceed 2500 rpm every stop light you're looking at 15 mpg max.

It goes in the main cup holder because of massive complaints about the main cup holder not keeping vente cups in place. I know, because I complained to Subaru about it and they sent me one. It keeps the vente cups more secure believe it or not! Sorry didn't see another one answered. Yeah my cups moved all over the place. Coffee spills. :)
I’ve had 2 Subarus. Problem I always had with them is that they’re super noisy to the point you can’t hear the radio. And the new car smell is so artificial it can make you sick.
Agreed. I owned a '17 Outback. 2.5L flat 4. Totally gutless. Sounded like bb's rattling around in a tin can on cold startup. Horrible CVT.
I'm on my second subie. Both great. 2016 outback, 2021 ascent. Love the space in ascent. Started w/2014 Tahoe traded for Outback. Love value for $$ in Subaru. Safety rating makes owning new one easy on insurance bill.

How about talking about the poor gas mileage. 16 mpg in the city. My 2004 300 hp mercedes E500 with a V-8 gets better mileage than this modern turbo engine. Very disappointing.
It’s an amazing SUV, the sensors are incredible, being a Honda fan. Am so in to the Subaru now. It does huge the road. MPG is 15 in city and 16.5 highway real number. Have the limited
I have a 2021 Ascent with the lift kit and off-road tires. Getting 19 city and 23 highway.

Like Ascent’s looks honestly. Shopping this against the Kia Sorento turbo or hybrid.
We owned a 2020 Ascent and enjoyed it and actually miss it at times but we unfortunately had to upgrade to a mini van due to a 3rd kid.
Our main issues were the CVT fake shifts are very abrupt, the 3rd row only has one set of latch points, the steering, while quick, is too soft so on the highway it’s easy to drift off-center if not paying full attention. The steering wheel for whatever reason is slightly off center too. Checked it on multiple ones at the dealer and all were the same. The Harmon Kardon system was pretty bad for an upgraded system.
Overall though we really liked the vehicle.
In regards to the pathfinder comment, the previous gen CVT pathfinder also towed 6,000 lbs so it isn’t due to the automatic transmission. 6,000 lbs isn’t new to this current gen pathfinder.
Steering wheels are off-center to the driver’s position on most cars.
We have 3 kids in child seats with a 4th on the way and are going to trade-in our minivan for an Ascent. The ascent has more seats (8, vs the 7 in our minivan) and gives us more seating options, not less. The space/cargo trade-off is solved with a roof cargo carrier. And the Ascent is way more capable in every other way, higher ground clearance, AWD, much safer, and much more realiable. Our minivan spent 3 of the first 8 months of ownership at the dealership service, transmission replaced at 6,500 miles for example.
I'm curious if you miss anything about the Ascent now? What has the minivan given you that you didn't know you were missing until you had it?
@@slandshark overall we loved the Ascent and I would buy another. Our main problem was just the space. My kids have more leg room in our van and we can also go shopping and fit items behind the 3rd row. If I went grocery shopping, I always had to pull the car seat out of the 3rd row in the Ascent so I could fold the seat down to have enough space. The 3rd row in our van is far bigger than the Ascent’s third row. We miss the AWD in the ascent and the better aesthetics over a mini van.

Love the video, we actually just traded in our 2021 Pilot for a Onyx Ascent yesterday. We loved our Pilot but Ascent gave us more options than our EX Pilot.
I'm curious after 1 month now, any feedback on the transition from the Pilot to the Ascent? And if you have kids in child seats, which one do you like better for that (and why)? Thanks!

@@Lauren-yq3ds We liked that Onyx’s base model had more to offer like Captain’s chair in the 2nd row n leather seats Moon roof and with the Pilot you have to get the Touring version. But last summer we sold our Onyx’ to save money. In the future we’re hoping to buy another Pilot
The design of this vehicle is ok. It's rather common looking, especially when compared to the Crosstrek and Outback. The Ascent kind of has a Honda Pilot profile to it - not that that's bad but it's too ordinary in my book.
I would love to see Subaru make a more boxy (purposeful-looking?) SUV with an off-road appearance package than slapping it on a mommy-mobile design. That's just me though.
The Ascent just looks like a bloated Forester to me.

CVT is a deal breaker for me. Some say Subaru's CVT is different and made in house so it's better but I'm not a fan of the concept of a CVT. That "rubber band" feel since there is a delay in the hydraulics to move the belt inside to move up/down the "gears" (I know there's no gears but manufacturers try and simulate that). It's a shame because I like everything else about Subarus (styling, ruggedness, engine, etc).

I have an Outback. Yeah it already happened to me a few times in a large parking lot, I walked toward a car I thought it's mine, then it turns out it's an Ascent :-)

I believe it belongs exactly where you found it AND it can be removed to use the full capacity of the bin you found it in instead of just putting some stuff in the cup holders only. I don’t drink beverages so I remove it and use the full bin as storage.
I’m researching suvs right now as my lease extension (Outback) is coming to an end. Timing could not be worse with the inventory situation. Would love to know between the Ascent & Highlander Hybrid which one would you and your wife choose.

Sort on the same boat, looking for a 3 row family suv.. Have you ever consider KIA telluride? That thing seems on top of the consumer report. I'm driving a WRX and I like it. That makes me want to buy the Ascent. After researching around, I feel like that I may not like 3 things about it. 1. the 3rd row is kinda useless due to the short head space for adult. 2. Have CVT mimic gear shifting is a terrible idea imo. 3. Kid may not be able to move 2nd row by themselves. So, I don't know...For the highlander? Sounds like it can't go wrong with that car...But I do heard some complains about its seat not as comfortable as others. Perhaps need some test drive.
@@pts1071 I’ve test driven the Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride (my friend owns one) and the Toyota Highlander. Loved the Palisade and Telluride, would pick the Palisade if there wasn’t such a markup. The highlander is ok, it is a “meh” car for me but that’s just my personal opinion. Highlander would be my last choice. I think the infotainment is better on the Toyota but the 2nd row with captain chairs has annoying cupholders in between that seem out of place. The 3rd row is useless in the highlander but in the Ascent, my 11 yr old fits in 3rd row and she’s 5’ tall. I’m not loving all the bad reviews I hear about the ascent, seems more dislikes from ppl than likes? 🤷🏻♀️

Have a 2021. Bench 2nd row. Premium pkg. Has everything I need. Did t want sunroof or leather. (German Sheperd). Best bang for buck. Traded in Outback for it. Went from Tahoe to Outback. Ascent really good middle ground. Loved driving Outback-fun but just too low to ground & too small. Subaru great value for dollar. I put down both back rows & it becomes our 2nd pickup truck. Woo hoo.

Does the tighter steering ratio make it more difficult to remain centered in your lane (without using steering assist)? Does one need to concentrate more to accomplish that?
Also, do any SUVs provide a rear cover that hides your belongings when the rear seats are folded down?
I've never owned an SUV and have only had coupes, hatchbacks, and sedans.
I just purchased the 2021 Subaru ascent touring model and I love it. I love the adaptive cruise control which will let it go down to a complete stop and then if you takeoff again you just barely tap the accelerator pedal. I love the lane control to as it’s almost like auto pilot. Thanks for the review Micah.

I can’t wait for the redesign ascent. I am kinda curious what Subaru has in store for them. I currently have the 2020 forester touring. I won’t buy a ascent if it is just me. But I keep updated on all the new redesigns coming up.
Any idea what month Subaru usually reveals the next model/year of their lineups? My Wife and I are likely going to buy a 2023 Ascent and I'm oddly excited to see what they announce. Ignoring exterior design, I'd like to see them add a couple things to the Limited trim. A 360 surround camera, digital rear-view mirror, and the Onyx edition (or just an all blacked out option for Limited trim), all available with 8 seating (which is a must for us).
@@slandshark so Subaru was supposed release the refresh for 2022 but was pulled back because of the shortage. So the ascent is going to get a refresh for 2023 for next year. I am assuming that the ascent refresh if they are on track should be released this summer but in dealerships close to September. Sometimes Subaru releases their cars during weird periods. I also heard the Outback is getting a refresh pretty soon as well along side the legacy twin. You will just need to watch and see.

I have an ascent and I’m not sure it’s the cvt gear, my forester has a cvt too and there is no lag. I actually think it’s the turbo lag, once the turbo kick in is when it really starts to pull
16:19 I doubt that’s the reason. The Honda Pilot has a real automatic transmission and it’s rated at 5k with awd and 3500 fwd. I’m sure it helps without a doubt, but then how do you explain that for the rest that only tow 5k? Even the Acura MDX Type S Advance with 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque is only rated at 5k. There’s more to it than just the transmission and engine…
I’m no fan of CVT’s either, but the 2017-2020 Nissan Pathfinder equipped with the CVT also had a 6,000lb tow rating 🙃

Yea, and it was an absolute disaster, which is why they switched back to an automatic for the ‘22. CVTs are great for small cars with low weight and low power engines.

If they offer a more robust transmission and a lift kit, that would be a great overlander for soft off-road.

We do a fair bit of off-roading and while the Ascent is fine for easy trails the Bronco is a much better choice for us.
You got it wrong, the previous generation Pathfinder with CVT also can tow 6000 lbs, it’s not because of 9 speed auto that it can tow 6000, I still don’t know why it has 1000 more than other competitors.

Personally, I'd go Pathfinder. It's incredibly easy to live with and it has a traditional automatic, which I prefer to the Ascent's CVT.

I just saw your video because I'm in the market for this car at the premium level. How was it driving on the highway? Do you have any experiences towing with it on /off the highway? I asked for an upcoming family trip to Florida from the Washington DC area.

It’s safer bet to go with a Toyota as the cost of repair is astronomically expensive, my Toyota vehicles have driven past 200K miles without any expensive repair like transmission, engine, AC, Suspension etc.
Highlander, Sienna, 4Runner, Lexus LX, GX all are better choices unless you need a station wagon then go with the Outback.

I have a 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon with about 235k miles on it. I beat on it every time I drive it and it runs like new. Had the clutch replaced at 230k miles for the first time. I had the radiator replaced at 192k miles. That's it. Everything else was scheduled maintenance per the manual. Subarus can be extremely reliable if you just do the maintenance. I'm also a firm believer that you need to 'drive' the vehicle instead of baby it.
