Floor Execution Breakdown - JESSICA GADIROVA (GBR) - Floor Event Finals

  • Since my favorite UA-cam channel ever FlipFlyTumble has not made this video, I am going to do it instead 😌
    The FX EF scoring during Liverpool Gymnastics Worlds 2022 has been controversial, particularly some (*cough* all but one) gymnasts are being punished more than others. This may give you a better look of what Jessica's deductions are during her floor routine and how they are different from what given by the judges.
    Disclaimer:
    This video is entirely my personal opinion, however based on the current Code of Points and with consultation of an FIG accredited judge.

    Hi, it seems that this video suddenly gain some (little, haha) attention seeing the comments are suddenly increasing. Please note that EVERY feedback is appreciated. But name-calling, misleading information, and degrading comments are not.
    Here is some of the explanation to clear things up:
    1) I used layman terms so people with no gymnastics background can understand.
    2) I calculate all deductions REAL SPEED (I only watched once during the livestream, and the next time I watched I take notes of the deduction). Slow motions are to give better understanding for viewers.
    3) "Body alignment" means that her shape was not maintained throughout. The exact words may not be present in the COP but the deduction does exist. If you starts off in layout position (easier twisting) and ended up in tucked position (easier landing), it's going to be deducted. Shape HAS to be maintained throughout a skill.
    4) Controlled lunges are permitted during leaps, but hers ARE NOT controlled. The step after gogean is to mask lack of rotation, meanwhile on the switch full is to mask lack of balance. If you want to see controlled one, watch Mustafina's switch half during 2012 Olympics.

    • @mattj5391
      @mattj5391 Рік тому +4

      Your point 3 is wrong. Please look at the Code. It's only a deduction for a double salto WITHOUT twist.
      Your point 4 is a matter of opinion. Many judges considered these landings controlled lunges and not deductible.

    Very cool video. I agree with the breakdown here. I feel this routine should have definitely been closer to a 13.8 or 13.9. To me though, it’s not that she was so egregiously scored, it’s that the scoring was not consistent. No one’s going to tell me Jordan received artistry deductions.

    • @mattj5391
      @mattj5391 Рік тому +14

      Jordan absolutely received artistry deductions for poor footwork. Potentially also poor corner choreography. This youtube video makes a lot of errors - there is no such thing as a “body alignment” deduction for a Silivas. Please read the Code and the Helpdesk. 0.7 on her Silivas is ludicrous and shows a complete disregard and lack of knowledge of the Code.

    • @jorgebonilla2234
      @jorgebonilla2234 Рік тому +11

      I agree that Jordan could receive artistry deductions. Some of her corner choreo is deficient and her choreo is very start stop and pose-y, it’s not sustained throughout. I doubt it’s more then .1. I do think however, the first pass of Gadirova has .700+ in deductions. .3 alone for the shape and .3 for the bounce. You can get more for flexed feet, unprepared for landing, slight leg separation. I wouldn’t take all three though. She kind of benefits from the Aly raisman effect - there’s only so much the judges can take for one element

    • @gym_analysis
      @gym_analysis  Рік тому +21

      @@mattj5391 When you are unable to maintain a position it is certainly a deduction. Body alignment might not be what is written in the COP but I used layman terms so non-gymfan can also understand.
      Also 0.7 on a skill is very normal when you have bad form (0.3 deduction) AND bad landing (0.4 deduction). They come from two separate phase of the skill.

    • @jorgebonilla2234
      @jorgebonilla2234 Рік тому +10

      It’s not about the genre (for example, Rebecca does a similar approach but it’s more effective and continuous and likely doesn’t get deducted), it’s the fact that she starts and stops the performance, interrupts the choreo with clear pauses to prep for elements, which take you out of the performance. Again, it’s a small nit but it’s possible for her to lose .1 in artistry.

    The deductions for small shape error and precision are a little too much. I personally think it should only be a 0.05 deduction. Also, a judge is also not likely gonna to spot those unless watched in slow motion during a review/appeal. With the current COP, it makes difficult skills not worth doing when one loses between 0.4 to 0.7 (or more) in deductions. To me, there’s something kinda annoying when a Silivas effectively becomes almost the equivalent of a mediocre double back (point-wise). I’d hate to see artistic gymnastics revert back to the level like those of compulsory routines from 1996 and prior.

Steps out of leaps are not deducted ONLY if they are CONTROLLED (watch Aliya Mustafina's 2012 Olympics floor routine during her switch split half. She took steps right after landing in perfect position). Gadirova's were done to mask lack of rotation (gogean) and lack of balance (switch full).
      And by the way having margins is VERY COMMON in gymnastics judging. On 2016 Olympics, 2 execution judges gave a routine 7.4 and 8.1 for THE SAME ROUTINE (Emma Larson of SWE during 2016 Olympics floor qualification) which does not matter as they throw away lowest and highest value out of 5 judges, leaving 3 scores to be averaged.

      It also is. "Rear foot at head height" on split ring (and its variations) is considered a "small fault" which is 0.1 deduction.
      I suggest you take a look at the Code of Points and search for Anna Pavlova or Flavia Saraiva (among many other gymnasts) as reference for error-free split ring leap form 😊
