  • Welcome to my POV drive and review of the 2023 Volvo XC40 Ultimate. This is a wonderful little Swedish SUV that really competes with the Germans!

    Nice video. Well done. However, as an owner of an XC40 for 3-4 months now (I had an XC60 before). I can tell that you don’t own this car. When the car has been driven for around 3-4k KMs (around 2-3k miles), this engine really comes alive. The winey, harsh noise soon falls away. I had this with the 60 also. I guess this is something Volvo build in to protect the new engine. I agree with you on the breaks though. Those in the 60 are waaaay more responsive. In the 40 they’re a bit “blunt”.
    Thanks and well done. I guess the problem with these reviews is that you don’t really get properly used to the car and run the risk of misleading a potential buyer. Anyway, overall a good video.

      Thanks for the owner's input. All we can do is give impressions and what we notice. That's interesting about the engine. Duly noted.

      Did you get used to the blunt brakes?

      @@TeachThirst I’d say so yes. Automatically, I’m find myself breaking a lot sooner than with the old car.
      Overall, I’d say the XC40 is perhaps just the better car in terms of, handling, equipment, looks and fun!

    nice video. one question: on the centre console, what is the difference between the 'P' button directly under the gear shift and the 'P' leaver next to the 'A' button? and when would you use each one? thanks

      Thank you very much. Appreciate you watching. The button with just the P on it is to put the car in park. The button with the P and the ring and bracket is for the emergency brake. Everything is a button. Lol.

    Saying you can't see anything behind you in the C40 is an exaggeration. One can see any car immediately behind and how far it is behind, which, with the large side mirrors, is all that I need. By contrast, blind spot visibility and side visibility for rear seat passengers is much better in the C40 than in the XC40 Recharge. Otherwise I think it was a good, balanced review.

      Thank you very much. I appreciate you watching and commenting. I’ll have to circle back around to the C40 and take another look. That vehicle still owes me a real world range test so I’ll have another look at the visibility. Cheers!

    I have to ask, how good/ bad is the engine stop start, and can it be turned off.

      @lugnutscarreviews  Рік тому +2

      The stop/start is about as good as it gets. You know it’s there but I’ve seen far worse. You can turn it off but it’s not permanent as it resets itself every time you restart the car. Thanks for watching. Really appreciate it.

      It’s not bad now because they are now mild hybrids

    You mention the engine as being noisy but mine isn’t. But I’ve heard some of the insulation under the engine hood has been removed for this year. Not sure if that is so but that might be why yours would be noisy.

      May well be the case. Carmakers love saving a nickel on something they think we won't miss
