    Elderly people where I live do temporary perms, as in they get rollers and just roll their hair (wet) and then take it out the next morning.
    For anyone curious about the science and chemistry of it, here's the facts:
    The human hair contains 4 chemical bonds 2 of said bonds explain why we can shape hair differently.
    Hydrogen bonds are weak bonds that break down at the touch of water. This explains how you can shape hair a certain way after getting it wet, once the water evaporates, the hydrogen bonds rebuild themselves and that rebuilding causes your hair to maintain the shape you put them in until they get wet again. That is why using perm rods with just water works if you want a temporary perm. Keep in mind that there's water molecules in the air that touches hair, that's why you can't use just water to create a permanent style.
    During a chemical perm procedure, we hairdressers use a liquid formula of ammonium thioglycolate which break down Disulfur bonds in the human hair. After we have put the hair in a desired shape, with some time and other factor we rebuild the Disulfur bonds again with a fixing reagent. There is no other way to break down Disulfur bonds without serious chemicals so you dont have to worry about using styling/haircare products on perms.

      @@Leotastick yes. Though hair spray is not necessary if you do it over night. You should use hair spray in order to protect the hair from outside moisture if it's very humid where you live. Some people use mousse while their hair is wet and roll it up. But it can be tedious because you have to apply the mousse per section, otherwise your hair will dry before you finish rolling it up. Then next morning they take the rollers out and lightly squeeze (called breaking the shell) their hair to get rid of any stiff/crusty textures

    Personally I got a perm and as a person with more straight hair and wanted a more wavy texture, I recommend it. Yes there are other ways to get waves in your hair, but it may also be quite time consuming and/or not the same result you're looking for. As far as I know, the perm didn't really damage my hair, at least it still feels mostly the same, just a bit more wave to it. Sometimes a bit drier, but that can be fixed with products. Also doesn't cause more breakage/hair fall or whatever.

It made my hair seem or appear thicker (I have fine hair). It obviously gave me body and volume I would not have had otherwise, and I got more compliments on it when I wore it curly than any other hair style I have ever had in my life. In fact, I would love to wear it that way again, but honestly, it requires so much maintenance, and it takes so long to perfect the look, I really wouldn't have time for it these days.

Like I say, it was a lot. Before I had kids, I had a lot more time to spend getting ready for the day but at some point it really was not something I wanted to have to do. Hi , great Video !
    Does th is apply for perms that are used to straigh the hair aswell ?
    I got pretty thick and curly hair and i had trouble styling them since always. I tried a straightening perm before 2 months and i really like how my hair looks now and how much easier it is to style them.

    Man! I got a perm a week ago and I love it so far, it doesnt damage your scalp as much as you guys think because most salons will use a solution afterwards to stop the process of the perm so it doesnt damage your scalp, the perm lasts for about 4-5 months (so by the time people get a haircut)

  • @Josh-tn7qk
    @Josh-tn7qk Рік тому +55

    I used to get perms to get that hairstyle and it lasted for a few months as well, but this was last year now this year my hair is still not fully recovered even after numerous cuts to get the breakage out. I had one cut that was almost a buzz cut and I grew it all out again and my hair is still damaged, dry and brittle from the perms I got. I would not recommend it if you are not going to a professional and aren’t okay with dealing with the breakage after the perms gone. But if you’re still gonna do it you should try to condition more often then you normally do with good products👍🏼

    also @thesalonguy, i know you’re just trying to warn people not to damage their hair but not everyone’s hair reacts the same way to harsh chemicals. a lot of people have perms they’re happy with and i feel like this kind of video might discourage people from making a style choice they might really like

I wanted to get a perm so I could have more volume but unfortunately it’s done the opposite. Since the perm my hair has become extremely dry (still dry 4-5 days after washing - before perm I used to need to wash it every second day),I’m not able to comb it unless I’m in the shower with conditioner in it as it would get very frizzy if I combed it dry, and so so so much has fallen out. I won’t get a perm again and I’m hoping my hair will get its moisture back as it grows out and I trim off the perm. I’m hoping this info helps if you are thinking of getting a perm.
