I've been retired for some time now but back in the 70s, we were paying our lowest paid employees salaries equivalent to about $17 per hour and that was in an office environment. The cost of living was far lower than it is today, so the equivalent today would be more like $35 per hour.

This is probably the largest issue in politics currently, people vote based on weather the candidate has an R or a D in front of their name, that’s it! People need to start voting based on policy! The proof is that when Republican voters were asked if they like Obama care the majority hated it, but when asked if they liked it by asking provision by provision the majority liked it. So in other words they just hated Obama because the right wing media told them they should. It’s sad because this isn’t a game, the people you vote for make laws that effects everyone’s life. I know it wouldn’t work, but I sometimes wish that everyone could just vote for policies from their phones, then everyone would have a vote and we would truly have populist policies in place, the only problem is that policies are long and nuanced and I doubt many people would actually read it to understand what they are voting on.....funnily just like a lot of politicians do....
