    Very well-done, highly-informative interview. More content like this, please.

    Aids, Ebola, Dengue, Hanta, Lhasa, Marburg, Mouse Pox viruses. All hemorrhagic fevers (causing massive bleeding from every body opening) except aids. All emerging in a very short time in Africa. Never heard of before in the long history of mankind. Extremely fast acting with a high kill rate. Where do YOU think they are all coming from ????

      bushmeat.

      Agreed. But where did they come from to get into the bush meat ?? Aids was discovered in around 1980 but the rest have only come about in the last 10 or so years.

    "Most will die" is in this case 50-60%, which is far less than the usual 80-90% mortality.

    CNN's Christiane Amanpour speaks with Dr. Peter Piot about an "out of control" Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

      “Spectacular”. I can think of a few descriptions more suited, such as horrific or frightening for example, but “spectacular” got him a slot, and that's OK, as I feel it is important that this virus gets talked about.
      I have been watching the spread of this latest outbreak, and it is really scary to think it is in the cities now.

    • @CYFilmStudent
      @CYFilmStudent 10 років тому

      Stephen Peel Absolutely, it has been ignored too long, just because people think since it's happening only in West Africa it won't effect them, but they should take notice, because it's spreading and killing 9 out of 10 sufferers. It is not an airborne illness thankfully, it only spreads through close contact with bodily fluids.

    • @jarcho123
      @jarcho123 10 років тому +2

      Apparently Amanpour doesn't know the difference between a bacterium and a virus...

      If Ebola can spread from one creature to the next without them touching, then we are in real trouble. Have you noticed how many news clips there are where they talk about how it is not easy to catch, and in the background everyone is wearing airtight suits and masks. Show me a clip where nobody has got so much as a pair of gloves on, and I don't mean the local people either.

      Tacks Given To hasten de-population. birdflu666.wordpress.com/2014/07/24/sierra-leone-orders-us-bioweapons-lab-at-centre-of-ebola-outbreak-to-be-relocated-tulane-university-to-stop-ebola-testing/ SIERRA LEONE CLOSES US BIOWEAPONS LAB AT CENTER OF EBOLA OUTBREAK, STOPS TULANE UNIVERSITY FROM EBOLA TESTING The ministry also denied that leading doctor Dr. Shiekh Umar Khan has died from Ebola as reported by mainstream media. The collapse of medical services is part of the power grab agenda promoted by WHO in order to justify calling on UN soldiers and other military forces to carry out a mass vaccination and quarantine campaign.
      The Sierra Leone government said the US bioweapons lab in Kenema hospital is to be moved another location “as requested by health workers and the people of Kenema.” In addition, all new confirmed cases are be admitted to Kailahun hospital, which means that the US bioweapons lab at Kenema has been effectively closed down.
      The fact that the government has also ordered the US “Center for Disease Control (CDC) to officially send their findings and recommendations from the assessment of the laboratory and treatment center in Kenema” adds weight to the notion that some kind of investigation is taking place into this US bioweapons lab .
      The move to close down the hospital at the centre of the Ebola outbreak comes as even a doctor working for Doctors Without Borders has been forced to admit that local people’s perception that they will be killed in the hospitals is “understandable.”

    He coudlnt be more wrong about not catching it from someone on a bus, 3 seperate studys it transmitited thru the air from just being in same room. Might explain why 2 doctors who believed what they were told are now sick.

    Ebola virus can be inactivated by exposing it to temperature of 60' C for 30-60 minutes. But how about at normal room temperature? HIV can survive for a few minutes. For Ebola, it's being suggested it can live for 3 days or more. That is a good period of time for the virus to get into contact with new hosts in considerable number.

    So testing new medicine in humans will increase confidence in healthcare services in Africa?.. And this guy calls himself a doctor? If he argued that the survival rate is low and that those people had nothing much to lose, then I'd wouldn't question his logic but meh. BTW, the current survival rate is like 40-50% from this outbreak. But that's not his fault, he's taking the 1976 statistic.

    Its not just "lack of information" that matters here, information is available for those who seek knowledgd. A big part of the problem is the interest to want this information. The attitude among the majority of the people, the ones who can make a difference.. They dont seem to want knowledge and. as usual, blame the whites for all their problems instead of doing something about them. I recommend a look at the documentary at news.vice.com/ about this african, soon to be the rest of the worlds-problem.
