I loved the design of The Eye of Sion. Before we even knew its name, any Star Wars fan who had seen the Prequels or the Clone Wars knew exactly what it was.

As someone who is not that deep into Star Wars.. Why is such an external engine necessary? Haven't we seen Star Destroyers use their own hyperspace drives onboard? Is it just because this one is damaged and it was easier to build that ring instead of repairing the ship?

@@MiTheMerIt’s a bit like taking a transit van and then putting in a V12 in the back. Sure the engine that comes with the van is fine but putting a giant engine in there means you can go a lot faster and they’re traveling over very long distances so the faster you go the less time you’ll be stuck in transit. The SD could likely jump back on its own but that might take years and they might not have the fuel for it

@@MiTheMer Hyperspace rings were used in the Republic for ships that can't have their own hyperdrive. Like a booster rocket. The distance between galaxies is so big that the Star Destroyer (or any other ordinary ship) cannot make it with it's own drive. The eye of sion has seven hyperdrives from SUPER (!) star destroyers. That is like 70x the power of a normal SD hyperdrive.

I love that the Eye of Sion has seven SSD hyperdrives. Given that just one of those can propel an entire SSD through hyperspace and the fact that you need seven of them just to transport a comparatively tiny ISD between galaxies really puts into perspective how energy intense such a jump must be.

There is a massive problem with the Chimera in Ahsoka, though. Its the wrong Star Destroyer.
The Chimera is an ISD-1 class Star Destroyer. The ship in Ahsoka is an ISD-2. The easiest way to tell is that the Comms tower between the two bulbs in is on its back, whereas the ISD-1 class has it standing up. Both versions of the Comms tower are about the same height, so there is no way that it was just damaged. and Rebels uses them several times each season. i suspect that the reason the LAAT/LE ended up as the typical gunship-transport and not something like the TIE Reaper is not only is the LAAT/LE older (and thus would be more common) but it also is small. it carries the same passenger load as the TIE Reaper, but at a quarter the size, always an important consideration aboard a starship. for the same hanger space needed for one TIE Reaper able to deploy a single squad at a time, you could bring four LAAT/LE's and deploy a whole platoon. given an ISD is supposed to carry thousands of troops, that is an important detail.

If you compare the renders of the Ghost from Rogue One/The Rise of Skywalker (like the one currently in the infobox on the Ghost's Wookieepedia article) with shots of the Ghost in Ahsoka and renders of the HasLab Ghost, you can tell that they've reused the same model and just altered/added a few details, like the windows. Things like the "detail trenches" on the sides appear to be identical. This means that the Ahsoka model has lineage back to the model used in Rebels, since they just took the Rebels model and modified it a bit for Rogue One.

@@squasher0487 Not sure how feasible it is for the writers to bring a Starhawk in considering it'd be more than a match for any ship the Imperial Remnant could muster as a Starhawk is said to be equal to 3/4 ISD's, 2 Allegiance classes, 1.5 Resurgent classes, and in the right hands maybe not equal but more than a match to an SSD. But who knows with Thrawn and maybe later on in the story too.

One of the things that I enjoy about Star Wars is the simplicity of design. We understood from looking at the Eye of Sion that it was a massive hyperdrive ring presumably able to travel massive distances. It was great to see it connect to an SSD, a fantastic mix of new ideas and callbacks. I was dissapointed in the show as a whole but the ships were fantastic.

I imagine it's just one of many things that had to be scrapped because of the rise of 8-episode seasons. If it were a full 12 or 13 episode series, I imagine we might have had some scenes where Baylan or Ahsoka actually talk about Luke. Perhaps Shin or Sabine would have even investigated it in their own time.
But this show was very much about untraditional Jedi finding their place. Luke, who is arguably the last traditionally trained Jedi who holds the Orders ideals, would stick out like a sore thumb in a thematic sense even if just referenced.

What I hope for in the future is that they go to the effort of making a good ISD-II model (all ISDs since rouge one have used the rouge one made ISD-I digital asset). One explanation could be that the Remnants sought out the ISD-I's because of the chief failing of the ISD-II's: The lack of a point-defense system for starfighter screening. When you don't have enough pilots for a full wing of TIE Fighters, you need a point-defense grid to stop those Starfighters the New Republic are so fond of.
