I have been in the glass industry for 30+ years and it suffers from the same issues. There is no one coming into the trade, and we are paying the price for owners not thinking about the future of their company. I am trying to switch gears and migrate into the locksmith industry. It is refreshing to see someone in ownership looking at the big picture and not the immediate cash flow to help they're personal wealth. Good work. #lockboss
This is basically what I'm in right now. I have 20 years in construction and always wanted to become a locksmith and my local shop took me in doing exactly as he describes. It's been great.
Not In New York. Everything is A Secret . They Don't Want You To Become Their Competition When You Leave And Open Up Shop On Your Own So they Will Not Hire You And Teach You. That's The Way Most Think.
That is awesome that he is giving opportunity to new locksmith #lockboss . Yes we need more locksmith to fill in the one who are exiting this career. #Phoenix
This approach is nice to hear. Obviously there's schools that we can all go to, but nothing teaches real world skills like learning from a master. Plus, it's difficult to know what schools are reputable. I'm limited into what I get into being an institutional locksmith, so gaining any type of knowledge is wonderful. #lockboss
The performance based pay structure sounds really exciting. What a great incentive for a #Lockboss, of any level of experience, to grow their skills and also grow your business. I would imagine that employees would be less likely to leave. It sounds like it would be the best of both worlds in that it is almost like owning your own business while having someone else worry about the business side of it.
I wish we had something like this where I live. I have been driving a truck for about 45 years and have been trying to get into the locksmith industry for years. I took the Foley Belsaw course back in 2007 and now I am taking the course through CLK because I know there are new things out there and I want to learn. I also have paid for my own state certification so I think that shows a commitment but no one is hiring. Had one interview and thought it was looking good but then they didn't want to pay anything or I guess I needed more than they wanted to pay so I didn't get the job. I still do odd jobs for family and friends but would love to get into the industry full time. Thanks for the video it is nice to know that their are people out there trying to help people like me get into the industry #Lockboss
This is really nice what he’s doing. Whenever I start this year as a locksmith I had 2 weeks low pay training on the job. I just learned the basic but mainly self taught. That how I found this Chanel it’s been my locksmith guide it’s how I’ve been able to figure it out. Thank you to pj#Lockboss
THIS!! ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻 We need to stop this culture of not teaching our industry secrets. If we don’t teach new blood, skills will be lost and locksmiths will disappear. I told my old boss this all the time, he was old school and would not listen about taking on a student from a technical high school. He wanted to throw the new guy on the road. We all start somewhere! You can’t teach a personality, you can teach skills. This guy gets it hands down! I applaud you #lockboss
To bring the pay ceiling up for locksmiths is great! Really, it's the one thingholding me back! This is an exciting advancement for our industry! Can't wait to learn more! #lockboss
From jumping in to the industry myself alone. This is why i love the lockboss community and lock industry with the local locksmiths not being much help when asking about the industry. Pj along with the clk team and other awesome people on youtube and ALOA meeting people that share the same enthusiasm when talking about and working with locks is awesome. This way of introducing new locksmiths is a game changer. Love it! #Lockboss
Michael is one humble #lockboss, which is pretty cool. There's definitely a lack of well-designed education in this field. The best thing I've found is the classes at conventions. But it's really hit and miss, and the classes are just on random topics. Training and education are so important though. Gotta keep learning!
This is some big brain #lockboss information!! It doesn't just apply to the locksmith industry; quality work starts with quality instruction and well-designed plans. It has given me some great ideas for recruiting for my own business here in Montana. Thank you for sharing this information PJ and CLK.
Wish I had seen this opportunity a year ago instead of diving right in. One thing I didn't get from my 3 week course was hands on experience. Luckily my customers have been patient and understanding. #Lockboss
More out of "mechanical curiousity" than looking for a career (already had one), I attended the 12-13 week course at the National School of Locksmithing and Alarms (now defunct), with instructor Don O'Shall, an acknowledged security hardware specialist, who authored several in-depth locksmithing references (deceased in 2018), and obtained my NYC Locksmith and Keymaker licesnse in 1985. Perhaps needeless to say, I purchased tools/blanks/pin kit/etc. while there, to play with. Here it is, 2024, and I finally got to rekeying my very own clone of a Kwikset lock. Yippee! Seriously, yes, one can get a good BASIC foundation in locksmithing in 12 or so weeks, with the right instructor and environment. Glad I attended the course (where I was the fastest lock-picker in the class of 20 or so peeps) - THAT was fun! As an aside - I very much disliked safe-combo challenges! Tedious and boring!
After 30+ years in the IT industry, I think a change would be nice... I'm considering locksmithing as a potential "retirement" career. I'm not sure how well that would play out, but when I see an apprenticeship program like the one discussed, I' hopeful that such a change might be a good way to go. While I'm not ready to end my IT career just yet, it won't be too long until I am. So I'm learning what I can about locksmithing now - rekeying cylinders, picking, cutting keys, etc and I hope that when the time comes I'll find a #lockboss in my area who's willing to do similar training. I can't learn everything there is to know about a trade by messing around with locks in my spare time, but I can get a jump start on learning the basics. Thanks for this video. It's great to see what happens when you give willing people the opportunity to do better for themselves and, in turn, for the company they work for.
The performance structure of that program is so intriguing that I'm going to have to watch that again. I can see how this can improve the mindsets of techs in other areas or trades as well. This has very helpful, thanks. #Lockboss
Just exited a Community College Locksmith program and it seems hard for us to find starting positions where we can learn as we are mentored into the industry. Apprenticeship is a great idea.
That’s a really awesome idea for a program. Wish I could’ve gotten into something like that early on. Learn as you go and get hired. Sounds fantastic. #LockBoss
I would love to get some serious training like that. My boss has been in the business for 35 years and expects me to know everything. The locksmiths that have been in it for such a long time seem to think you're dumb if you can't figure certain things. I got very little training and watched videos like your teaching videos. I spend nearly every night learning to try to impress him but he just talks so bad about the newer technology and thinks everything should be the same as it was 35 years ago. Every tool I buy he calls it junk. I hope to further my education with a younger group. The only reason I'm even working as a locksmith is because I was his electrician and he reached out to me for some help on emergency calls and working in the shop and I'll take any education I can get and fell in love with the locksmithing industry. I barely do and electrical work anymore which is what I went to school for and did a ton of electrical work and now focus on locksmithing but I don't really make much money working there. Definitely nothing near what Anderson is paying. #Lockboss
I'm sorry your experience was like that. Mine right now is awesome. The business that took me in have been in business for over 100 years and the owner is such a nice guy all about the new tech and all about teaching me the old way as well. He's been an awesome guy so far and everyone there says the same about him. Good luck to you and finding something similar.
@@seanmcewan4713 That sounds awesome. I was telling my boss I was buying a Triton Plus Ultimate to use in my van and he said that's Taiwan garbage and I should just get a 1200 Blitz but I can't cut high security keys with that. The blitz is awesome for many things but you have to grow and expand with technology and he just wants to retire and won't look at new tools
We tried this in the 80s at a car Dealership was a mechanic at time, mindset changed sold so many jobs they freaked out after first week because sales went up so much they stopped it because they wouldn't run numbers and went by service managers opinion because his workload increase and he was old and on salary, they refused to pay us. I told owner he was making to many bad decisions he was going to go bankrupt this was my family business my uncle was in charge of the place my grandfather started in the 40s. I quit when we added the Lawn and Garden he told us we were going to sell tractors and make so much money in a meeting then as a 19 year old I asked them "Who was going to fix them" as I watched his bubble pop I knew it was over. I remember the day I was getting a drink next door at store when I seen my Grandfather in the parking lot of his now closed empty dealership crying. This is a real story not internet BS #Locksmith
I really wish they had this around where I live. So far I've gone through the Foley Belsaw and the locksmith video course. Those courses are great but it left me wanting more. Interesting video again, thanks! #Lockboss
Id love to do this. Would be willing to do almost anything to make this happen. Where do i sign up! Im sold! Would love to have a career in locksmithing. Man id be willing to move to make this happen. Ive been waiting for someone to start something like this. I guarantee i would succeed! Sounds like you value your employees and hard work! We need more employers like this. Fair!
#LOCKBOSS training to help us new lockbosses out here. We don’t know what we don’t know! We don’t have to necessarily be first as long as we can do it. We can’t learn if we don’t take the first step and try
I don't want sound like I'm repeating myself, but I wonder if there's classes out there for individuals with poor hand coordination that could at least give it a try. I may have a hard time with basic hand tools, but what would you recommend for someone, such as myself who want to learn the job.
Cool idea. I think I mentioned before that if I wish I could have apprenticed when I got out of the military in 1997. It is a requirement where I live, but none of the locksmiths or security companies wanted to take on an apprenticeship. #LockForce
All trades could benefit from apprentice programs. I'm a professional high end trim carpenter and cabinet builder (and moonlight as a locksmith) in my late 40's . There's absolutely no young guys learning trades. They all want to be influncers i guess. Thanks for this perspective. #lockboss
This is great I wish my city had something like this I am doing it on my own witch is not easy but I love locksmithing, but I do have to do it part time right now because I can't leave my current job right now #lockboss
Very cool to see how a non trades person runs a trade business. Us in the trade know oir trade, but dont necessarily know how best to run a business #lockboss
I was fortunate to have a top notch and well respected Locksmith let me do ride alongs and train for several months prior to starting my own gig. Starting an apprenticeship would be interesting and profitable I’m sure, but ultimately aren’t you just creating more potential competition? #lockboss
Lol, so i see i was last to remark, no answered questions…. Well is it still up n Running? Whats even sadder is there is no info in description on where this guy is, where he’s located(buisness info/apprenticeship),how to contact them, phone number/email…😳🤦♂️🤷♂️😝👏😳‼️

Great initiative, power to you 👏👏👏
He may not be a #lockboss himself, but he’s working to change the industry for better or worse.
Wow, great #lockboss perspective from a sharp entrepreneur; he’s not just a Lockboss, he’s building a machine to train new Lockbosses 👏
Excellent idea...#lockboss

This is such a #lockboss move. I feel like most people I've talked to just stumbled into the business.
Awesome.#Lockboss
This is a good idea. A lot of trucking companies have their own free training programs to get people in the industry #lockboss
Not "Free" - you have to sign a binding commitment with them.
#Lockboss great video.

I think mentorship’s and apprenticeships are great ideas getting into locksmithing #lockboss

All the same issues here in California. We are currently working on our own program and focusing on younger 18 - 25 yr old kids.

You'd have a very difficult time with pinning lock cylinders if your hands shake or otherwise don't have fine motor skills.
Wish I had a deal like that when I started. #lockboss
#lockboss I really wish we had something like this here in the piedmont triad in NC
You have wolves though, dont'cha?
