Great to hear everyone's story! I've been a Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer for 41 years - I decided to seek my Locksmith Certification three years ago as retirement from the Funeral Profession looms in the next few years. As a kid my Dad was a carpenter and built houses... as the boss's kid I would have to work with him during summer vacations or days off school. He built houses for a lot of farmers, as the company he worked for advertised in farming & ag publications. Well, those old farmers would often want to use the same keys "that they'd been using for 30 years" on the new house, so I got the chore of making their old keys work with their new door hardware (mostly builder spec Weiser back then). Fast-forward about 50 years, and I still have a passion for working on locks. I started my mobile locksmith business, Access Lock & Key LLC three years ago because I saw a need in this market area and quite frankly, at some point it's going to be important that "locks are lighter than bodies". LOL Great video, PJ! #AccessLockKeyLLC #HaulinBrass #LockBoss

I dropped out of high school at the age of 16. Mom said I had to get a job. A friend of mine introduced me to Cecil, he hired me. 42 years later I own the company. #Lockboss

Was laid off from my IT job due to reduction in force and outsourcing jobs offshore, during which I was a lock sport enthusiast into car computers stuff and car keys. More and more I learned about it at tech school I decided to go further in learning locksmith ways, encouraged by the gratification of helping others I decided to go in full time mode beginning of the year after I done apprenticeship.

I was a NYS fire investigator until I fell and broke my back. I had a hard time walking or standing for long periods of time and because I needed to care for my back I needed to be able to move and work at my own pace. Then my dad suggested I become a #lockboss and here I am :)

@@KeysETC This is all true but I am able to do so at my own pace with no one yelling "hurry up so we can get to the next job." Further if I have a day where I just can't move then I just don't answer the phone... kinda (Answering service is amazing)

When I started I had no idea what a locksmith was. I was 18 years old straight out of highschool and seen a job ad in the local job magazine. I've been in the industry 16 years and I've owned my own business for the last 2 years. Still love it as much as I did when I started. #LockBoss

The reoccurring statements from these #lockboss elites was "I get to" which shows one truly enjoys their job! and "helping people" affirming that gratification we all feel helping someone solve a problem and in my opinion, if you do not feel that as a Locksmith, you are in it for the wrong reasons.. My story: My life had turned upside down after losing everything in the campfire of Paradise, Ca and had to start over. My job at the time(30 years in that business) was not very patient with my life re-building so I was attuning myself to the possibility of a new career. Then Covid happened, which shut down my customer base and thus I was unemployed for a year. Long story short and God Blessed. I needed new keys for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Locksmith that helped me was 40 years in the business and we started talking. He trained me and now I'm 8 months into owning my own Mobile business and at this time matching the employment from a job that gave up on me. I Thank the Lord everyday for the continued blessings being a Lockboss has given me! I GET TO HELP PEOPLE! get paid and meet my community one person at a time as far as the eye oh say can you see!!! #lockboss

Love all the different stories. It is amazing how so many people with so many reasons have ended up doing the same thing. I have always been interested in locks but my career ended up being a truck driver. In 2007 I took the Foley Belsaw course and was working part time for a locksmith. He decided to close his shop and just go mobile. Then 2008 our state decided to start licensing locksmiths so I stayed in the trucking industry. Today I am transitioning from truck driver to locksmith.

I quit my job as a school custodian last year, and just recently started working for a locksmith company that does hotel locks. I clean and repair lock cases currently. I love it so far. I'm constantly learning new things, and especially enjoy learning the mechanics of locks and lock cases. I'd like to start my own mobile lock smith some day down the road. #lockboss.

This makes me hopeful that I may be able to turn my hobby into a career someday. I started with an interest in learning lock picking and safe cracking as a hobby simply because it looked like a fun challenge. Now I am customizing tools and hoarding locks. I love getting them open, disassembling them, and learning about each and every one. This community is so amazing and full of people that are supportive and kind. No two stories are alike. #LockBoss

I’ve been a real estate agent since 1989 and in 2010 I began working with banks on their pre-foreclosures. I was required to get into the properties once they were vacated and change the locks. From that point forward a small group of agents would call me when they where locked out, needed a rekey or lock replacement. In February of this year I turned that small service into a full service locksmith company. #LockBoss

What started my slow journey into learning locksmithing was me first getting locked out of my house by my 2 year old, then having to rekey my house later, and rather than spending about $140+ to rekey every lock, I bought all the pins and stuff to do it from you guys for less than $90.
Then COVID happened, and I wasn't sure if I'd continue to have a job, so I wanted to ensure I'd have a potential backup career, and pick one with an aging workforce, so I could help increase my chances that I'd be able to keep the career, rather than have to worry about being phased out by some technology or something. I have had a few major financial setbacks, but I'm making it through. And due to events, I'll likely decide to work for a locksmith, rather than build my own business right away.
Once things calm down in my life, and I don't have so much to stress over, I'll fully plunge into the life of being a #lockboss

My journey as a locksmith started back in 2015 when the trucking company I was working slow down dramatically. Was only working 16 hrs a week so obviously money was no good and was married for couple of months so I decided to take advantage of work being very slow at to learn a new skill. I jumped online look into different course and finally decided to take @Foley Belsaw Locksmith home study.
I study it everyday and practice everyday on the material that I just learned. When I graduated from Foley Belsaw I immediately started applying to any Locksmith opening. A month later I landed a job opening for a Company called NSBS as a key shop helper. Later NSBS was bought by Miner.
A year later management like the work I was doing and offer me to take over the key shop and sent me back to school to learn more of the field like Access Control and to get my state Locksmith license. I attended @California Institute of Locksmithing. Btw, I decided to quit the trucking company by this time because i was making more money working at the key shop. But sadly, in 2018, Miner decided to close down the office in California and other state to relocate Operations to Texas.
With the money Miner gave me, I decided to open my own Locksmith mobile buisness. In August 10, 2018 was when I opened my buisness call C.A.M Locksmith as a part time side job because the week that Miner closed the door I returned back to the trucking company. For now I am doing both. At first my main focus was and still is are in the area of residencial and Commercial.
Slowly but steady my locksmith buisness is growing and slowly moving in to the auto side of locksmith due to customer demand in my area.
Thanks for CLK SUPPLIES and PJ awesome training videos has help me to learn more about car programming side of the trade and to become a real #LockBoss here in California. L. A area. 🙂
