Dominick turning heel back in 2022 is the best thing to happen in his career so far. He got Nuclear Heat for a months and still does to this day, what a crazy transformation from where he started to now
It's the best thing that will ever happen to his career. This is definitely the peak of his career...he won't be able to re create this kind of heat again..plus if he turns baby face...he won't be as interesting.
Honestly I'd go as far as say it's what made the Judgment Day work. I don't think swapping Finn Balor and kicking Edge was enough, but with Dom as the newest member they gain a Scrappy Doo character that plays off of everyone
So many times when lame faces get booed at for being awful, they just change to heel and say they wanted to get booed. It is BS. Like falling down and saying "I meant to do that". But Dom really created a character that embraced everything we hate about entitled kids who are pushed on us, and made it into a coherent dirt bag heel you love to hate. I wish they had played out his breakup with Rhea over a longer time period that had every one asking why are you with him? I think it was a mistake to do most of the story while she was gone.
Concerning Dreamer, what brought him over was not only the bashing but also that after, he turned to Sandman saying :"thank you sir! Can I have another one?". Talk about building à badass character
I loved Shane Helms’ solo run in WCW. He was able to showcase his talents, help elevate the cruiserweight title, and his entrance with the Nitro Girls made him look like a stud.
Dominik is a fantastic Heel. I imagine him turning into a Babyface again far in the future, and after his father rerires, he finally dons the Mysterio mask. Maybe he'll be Prince Mysterio as he originally planned. His story is amazing and extremely entertaining.
There are plenty of examples for these but my picks for the most important ones are Rocky Maiavia - > The Rock and The Ringmaster - > Stone Cold Steve Austin. Both gimmicks screamed lower mid cards but after the switch became the hottest names in WWF during the hottest era.
You left out some really big ones. You didn’t mention Rocky Maivia to The Rock, Hunter to HHH, The Ringmaster to Austin, and Becky Lynch going from the Irish Dancing gimmick to The Man. Austin and The Rock went from bland gimmicks to two of the biggest stars ever in professional wrestling.
The Undertaker. From Mean Mark Callous to The Undertaker was one of the most drastic changes, and one of, if not the most successful ones in wrestling history.
Dominik by far had the best transformation of the current roster, The difference between his face & heel character feels like a completely different wrestler.
Honorable mentions: 1. Rocky Maivia to The Rock (from "Rocky Sucks" and "Die, Rocky! Die" to "Rocky! Rocky!") 2. John Cena from shouting "ruthless aggression" at Kurt Angle in 2002 to The Doctor of Thuganomics 3. Dustin Rhodes to Goldust 4.Bob Backlund from a clean-cut, All-American babyface to an out of touch, business suit-wearing, crazy old man in 1994.
@@nixda9326 Not at all. Steven Richards and Brian Pillman weren't either and they're on the list. But you have to wonder if he would've been successful in the later eras if he had stayed as "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes.
Dom actually seems like a really chill dude. The baby face nepo run was a cute intro. But once he turned on his pops, his personality was able to shine. He has a great aura to him. Plus he's been a student of Westling since being a child. He was meant for this
So Al Snow's Rockers gimmick was named after 70's Teen Beat music Hearthrobs? Leif Garrett and David Cassidy? Vince really had his finger on the pulse of what is hip and current. Lmao.
You forgot "Mean" Mark Callous into The Undertaker,Dr. Issac Yankem D.D.S./The New Diesel into Kane,Rocky Mavia into The Rock,Hunter Hearst Hemsley into Triple H,and "Stunning" Steve Austin into "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Most main eventers had bland or at least not as successful gimmicks until their gimmicks were either changed or at the very least altered in some manner. Also "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes became Goldust,Stardust became "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes,Jon Moxley became Dean Ambrose, and Bryant Danielson became Daniel Bryan. Just food for thought. 🤔🤷♂️
I see several people bringing up Stone Cold and The Rock as ones that you can include as well if you make a Part 2 to this list, but I'm going to throw in another one. Mean Mark to The Undertaker. I mean in a way, WCW might have been right in that no one was going to buy tickets to see Mean Mark, but give him the right character to play, that being The Undertaker and he became one of the most legendary wrestlers of all time.
Bray Wyatt took inspiration from Waylon Mercy who in turn took inspiration from the character Max Cady trom Cape Fear which was originally made in the 60's and starred Robert Mitchum and in the 90's this version starred Robert Deniro . The Wyatt Family can also give a nod to the backwoods family from the 70's movie Deliverance .
It's cool seeing Dominic went from wearing some regular clothes (when he was a child back in the 2000's) to flexing in Versace and Louis Vuitton to just mostly wearing OFF-WHITE and a Rolex.
Dom is quite lucky he gets to be green in wrestling with his Dad, he could have been boring as a babyface he was brand new still learning how to wrestle and still gets to experience being over with his dad. When Dom turned heel with the judgement day I knew he would become a star. Rhea and Dom worked off each other so well I was disappointed when they broke them up they are still entertaining tho.
I loved this list, Andy. But I think that Axiom is not a "luchador". I should consider him as an anonymous superhero. A mix between Spiderman and a Power Ranger.
When he betrayed Rhea I felt real heel hatred towards him. Before it was so weak with how they weren’t trying to make him a heel but man I didn’t see him becoming a real deal heel. Fucking Bravo🎉
I feel like turning a face into a heel gives the wrestler more confidence since they don't have the pressure of putting on the nice guy face. Being allowed to be rude/arrogant with some trash talk here and there gives a wrestler more freedom in their gimmick. Same can be seen with Roman Reigns when he turned heel
As far as storyline is concerned Dirty Dom has been phenomenal but from a constructive criticism perspective, I feel his in-ring skills still require tons of improvement...he's a very generic high flyer as compared to his other counterparts, his finisher is the generic overly used frogsplash and his in-ring movements lacks rhythm.
In the podcast era I want more info on Hurricane behind the scenes. Everyone knew the gimmick was over. But what did they think of the fans enjoying it? Did they just think of us as peons who will chat "head" like for Snow? Or did they like letting him play with the character?
Dan Spivey was never in the US Express! That was Barry Windham! The Waylon Mercy gimmick was ahead of its time, but we can only imagine what he could have been if Dan Spivey's body wasn't breaking down when he joined WWF to be Waylon Mercy.
Honestly I would've put Bray Wyatt's transformation on this list. The dude went from a boring and dead character (Husky Harris) to what he's known for now and got insanely popular.
I remember when a Dom was referred to as Rey’s dipshit son. Seeing where he’s at now, transformations like this and the audience’s embrace of them is why I love wrestling
Marcus bagwell to Buff, Owen hart to the evil Hart, Lionheart Jericho to the Role model/Y2j, Babyface Masa chono to the Yakuza heel, 1-2-3 kid to Syxx, Randy orton to Evolution/Legend killer, and Baptista to Evolution's animal.
Isaac Yankem to Kane? Kind of a big change for Glen Jacobs that seemed to work out for him. To a lesser extent, Shawn Michaels as a good tag teamer to HBK. The Ringmaster to Stone Cold?
@@lewisgreen5081, as a Spanish guy, I doubt he's legitimally Spanish. I mean, he was born at a military hospital based at Torrejón de Ardoz, which belongs to US Army. So, tecnically, he must be US citizen, despite the city is placed in Spain.
I always had a feeling he was going to turn heel and that he started out "bland" on purpose so that a stronger personality could be built. I didn't get the hate on Dom back then
I feel like any other gimmick for dom would’ve worked way better then just bieng Rey’s son also that chair shot too jbl was a receipt if I remember correctly for shooting on blue meanie earlier in the year
It's a shame, but wrestling in Spain is not very appreciated in our culture. Spaniards are not as interested as Mexicans in wrestling, for example. As Spaniard, I know very well.
I think it’s safe to mention Rocky Maiva to The Rock and Hunter Hurst Hemsley to Triple H were necessary transformations also
I think he didn't count these cause they were personas that didn't last that much!
Also The Prototype to the Doctor of Thuganomics
@@SiyaTheCreative facts
They weren’t bland though
@@bandywallop rocky Maiva definitely was
Dom has had the best transformation in my opinion from being mysterio’s boring son to being one of the most hated heels in wrestling today
It’s to the point where I actually like him now lmao. His eventual face turn needs to be the type where he still cheats to win like Eddie.
@@yousafihsan167 He is Eddy’s son

Dominik turning Heel is what saved his career.
Dom turned heel while being a heel already, reactions is what you want, and reactions is what he gets. This heel run has been amazing!
it reminds me of Kevin Owen's turning heel while being a heel on chris jericho in 2017
The faction saved Dom not himself, but it is still early in his career
Idk about saving his career cause he was so early in but I get the point
Pretty much and he is actual heel heat
