This is one thing about Tomo that needs to be said: here is a man who is a "master" of his instrument yet is totally unashamed and unafraid to admit he has no idea what he is doing when presented with something completely new to his experience. That kind of open, honest humility is so lacking these days. Kudos to Tomo for being a real human being and immune to the awful sickness online that is known as "I-know-it-all-itis"....
Thank you for sharing! I don't know anything about a 7 string. All I knew... 6 sting guitar plus ONE more string and what makes so special? So I spent a few hours playing this. We are humans! We are not perfect and we don't know many things! Thank you so much!
My guitar teacher, Jonathan Gearey, is a jazz player and play with a 7 strings guitar and he makes some Walking Bass. Each time he starts to play, it desorients me. It's sound really nice, i have to master this in my life.
Tomo-san's playing is like magic. A strange idea of mine: I think headless guitars have slower attack compared to headed guitars, while solid-state amps have faster feedback compared to tube amps. Therefore, headless guitars are more suitable for pairing with solid-state amps.
Since you asked for some recommendations of 7-string players to listen to, here's a few: For jazz, it must be George Van Eps, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Bucky's son John. For fusion, I recommend Richard Henshall's playing in Nova Collective and Tony McAlpine's in the bands Planet X and CAB. I don't know anybody who plays 7-string in funk, but Mark Lettieri plays a baritone which translates pretty well.
Vaya tela!, ya no tengo edad para esto, suerte Tomo, te doy un like para fomentear tu rollo, pero esperaré ansioso tu siguiente video "normal" ...abrazo!
I skipped the 7...and tried an 8 string...and fell in LOVE with it for a few things, but mainly focused on Ambient Guitar with it. Tuned to "dropped" "E"
Thanks so much for sharing Tomo! Wow great sounding guitar very innovative style, the fanned frett board probably helps with the tunning. I believe metal heads play 7 string guitars along with many other styled players, can't think of any bands at the moment but I imagine there are quite a few. Again thanks so much for sharing.
I've seen you play expensive guitars like this. Cheap guitars like noname chibsons. They all sound wonderful in your hands! :) Surprised I haven't seen you play something from guitarsgarden but maybe I've just missed that video haha.
Citizen Erased、Supremacy、Survival、The Globalist、Won't Stand Down、Kill Or Be Killedで7弦ギターが使われています。
As far as recommendations... Howard Alden, Jimmy Bruno, Eschete, Bucky and John Pizzarelli, George Van Eps, charlie hunter, lenny breau, and my fav 7 string nylon player is Yamandu Costa, you can watch his video on youtube called "Yamandu Costa interpreta ritmo colombiano" - absolutely amazing. I was so excited when i heard the 7 string guitar used in this way, its like discovering a new ice cream flavor that is really awesome. Enjoy the guitar, it looks like you're adjusting well to the extra string :)
Thank you Master Tomo...another informative video...as they all are. I have an observation & quick question. I can see, from the guitar design (very nice) that the lower cutout places the guitar on your right leg (as most do) and in doing so, your strumming hand is further up the neck. In this demo, you are actually strumming well above the neck pickup on the neck. So..is there any disadvantage to this...tone or sound wise? I ask because i built a LP style guitar, where i am strumming mainly between the bridge & neck pickup ...and recently built a Musicman style guitar (body is about 3 inches shorter) where my strumming hand is over neck pickup and lower neck (as in your demo). They both sound fine, yet my (75 yr old mind, as a beginner) says that i should force myself to play lower, between pickups...But your masterful playing shows...It does not matter...if it sounds good...play it !! Thx Tomo
Tomo would you please get your hands on a Jet JS-300 and do a review sometime.. The price is around $200 but it comes with a roasted maple neck, bone nut full block trem( zinc) the frets are done nice.. It’s a Strat style.. I am very curious on what you think of the Jet JS-300. I love your channel and your insight and philosophy regarding life and guitar.. God bless Craig
If you're looking for artists to reference for extended range, obviously Tosin and Javier from Animals as Leaders is a great place to start, their first album is mostly 7 string stuff, some of the stuff in their album Weightless and Joy of Motion use 7 strings but you might miss out on not having an 8th string to use for a few tunes. Per Nilsson of Scar Symmetry and Meshuggah uses 7 strings, Stephan Toranto is a another heavy 7 string user. Robby Baca and Cameron Maynard of The Contortionist heavily use 7 strings tuned a half step down, their album Language would be a great listen for you. Connor Kaminski is a strandberg artist that sometimes uses a 7 string, he has a good video on him explaining the perks of 7 strings. My last suggestion for you is to keep the strandberg set to its tolerance specs for setup, simply due to the nature of the neck. The guitar should have 10 thousandths of an inch of neck relief holding the first fret and last fret measuring at the 12th fret or holding the first and 17th fret measuring at the 9th fret and the action should be setup as follows measuring at the 17th fret in 64ths of an inch E or F# (8 String)= 4.5/64 B=4/64 E=4/64 A=4/64 D=3.5/64 G=3.5/64 B=3/64 E=3/64 These are the factory specs, I also recommend the nyxl strings made for 7 string standbergs as they are tempered for that specific guitar (you can definitely change these gauges and get a good result but I truly feel Strandbergs are their own unique instrument with their own unique feel and setup tolerances. Hope you get an 8 string one day haha, enjoy the new axe.
@@TomoFujitaMusic Sorry, yes i meant shorts! - I make short covers because i can use 60 sec of the music/video without copyright (UA-cam / Tik tok has a license).
