My mom did any occasional cakes when I was little. Couple times she'd get mad about the frosting and throw it,...humid summertime and butter cream, ya know. She eventually refrigerated it slightly. She really got into it for a few years, all the pans, bowls, sleeves, tips, boards, layer plates and pillars and decorating tools back in the 70s and 80s. I was fun watching her do it. She finally let me practice making flowers on wax paper on the little round handheld tip tops. One cake our cat got into. Another time, she panicked about getting the cake to the destination in the hot weather. I feel that's this video shows the true talent of decorating with frosting and cake shapes & design. Not the fondant, not the spray air paint, not all the mumbo jumbo tools for making what we see today. Some like that, but it takes a way from being creative with the organic basics.
I still have one from the 60's. Hardback with black and white picture we colored in as kids and our childish scribbles claiming the cakes we wanted. Memories...
This cake takes me back to a more simple time when not every cake maker had to know every technique. Now a cake maker must know every style because of the internet but back in the day if you wanted a particular cake you had to find the decorator who knew that style.
I learned my craft 50 years ago, and I was taught everything from simple piping such as that shown here, through to 3D cakes with intricate structure and decoration. Flour confectionery and sugarcraft was part of my training, involving techniques with sugarpaste, fondant, pastillage , Royal icing, buttercream, and much more. I learned techniques that were popular and techniques that weren't in vogue too, and todays " modern" cakes are really just a reworking of skills I learned years ago. I guess there will be many cake makers of my age who learned multiple skills and techniques back then. It was largely a matter of personal choice that governed how much you learned, and if you wanted to, you could acquire skills then that would allow you to make any type of cake, or sweet confection, and todays designs are no challenge to someone who received such thorough training. Although modern cakes may look fantastically elaborate, most are much simpler to produce than some of the creations of the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
@@seasmacfarlane6418 so true! This is a “ vintage” style cake with all styles of piping and designs and detail. Modern cakes just have florals with half scraped off frosting for the aesthetic…. It’s called a naked cake
I was really in to decorating years ago. SO much to learn about so many techniques. I got so burned out, I finally gave it up and sold nearly everything I had except the basics. I really love this style of decorating. Elegant and beautiful. It's drawing me back in. No more fondant and gumpaste!
the green, and white one are my favorite. these are just amazing. now days there are so many techniques i can see where being a cake maker now could be stressful
I’ve been seeing these kinds of cakes alll over Pinterest and I really wanna make one of my own and this video really helped visualize how to do it thanks!
Очень красивое оформление. Простые узоры но как выгледят эффектно. На самом деле это не просто. Тут желание сильное нужно,фонтазия,ловкость рук . Это огромный труд.
Your drop loop skills are amazing. I don’t think non-cake decorators know how advanced of a skill this is, and the fact that you do them without pre-measuring or marking, (and they still come out perfect and uniform), is so super impressive. You are a very talented, and very skilled artist.
This makes me miss making homemade cakes so badly!!!😭🤧 Granted, I would try to make them as pretty as I possible could, though they don't measure up to how beautiful these amazing cakes are! 😊😋
My mom has been a cake decorator for yeeears and this is the oldes and most traidtional style of decorating lol. very classy if you will. but I've always been fond of it :)
I did several cakes including wedding anniversary and twenty first cakes but all with fondant and royal icing. Much finer work! Have too much arthritis in my hands now. Did a fortieth birthday cake for my daughter and cried with the level of pain!
Yoooo this video is actually pretty fire 🔥 my mom used to make cakes like this all the time and watching this has brought back alot of good memories thank you 😊 OH and awesome job with the music I was vibbing the whole time but that very first song that came on was a straight banger I loved hearing it to the pink cake it was so soothing lol 😆 anyone know the name of that first song cuz I'm about to go on a hunt lol 😆. Keep up the great vids you definitely got me to subscribe 😊
That's is just soo sweet!!! Glad you are enjoying my content.🥰🥰 Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the song as I got it from a random royalty free videos on UA-cam.
Thank you so much for this! I never learned how to do piping. Hopefully i can followthis when i go to try it out. Just need to figure out which tips work best for which piping look i want
Did you go to culinary school? I am considering going for baking and pastry but I think I could get trained in a proper bakery. Do you agree? What's your opinion? Thank you so much. Beautiful cakes!
I baked a cake today, I tried decorating it like these, but I never have enough frosting 😭 I use it all on inside and for a smooth outside, but not enough for the decorating. Atleast it tasted nice ^^ the earl grey cake, with a sour lemon custard in the middle, completed by a sweet cream on the outside. My mom helped me out, and in total it took 3 hours to make. My parents were proud of me, when I let them taste a piece.
Oh no! But I am so glad your parents loved it and were proud of you🥰 I would say its best to make more than less as you can easily store the buttercream in the freezer for up to 3 months ready for you to reuse anytime u want🙂
São tão lindos e delicados, mas deveria ter o nome das cores dos corantes e os números do bicos utilizados, pois as cores dos bolos também são muito bonitas.
Its either swiss or italian meringue buttercream. Both will give same result. However, on the yellow cake I used whipping cream which was slightly tricky to pipe😅
Just my style!! Do you mind if I share these cakes on my channel?? I'd like to "react" and re-create these designs. I know you post so others can learn, but I like to get permission anyway! Thanks! Tracie 😞AKA Auntie

I just love traditionally pipped cakes! So pretty and classic. I’m also an icing enjoyer so that might add to it 🤷♀️ haha

Yum. Always prefer a cake like this to a block of nasty fondant
