For those who don't know: It's called In the Hall of the Mountain King! It was composed by Edvard Grieg, a Norwegian composer, in 1875 as incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play Peer Gynt. This isn't really the name of the piece in Norwegian. The original Norwegian name of the piece is "I Dovregubbens hall" which means "In the Dovre man's hall". Dovre is a mountain range in central region of Norway, and in the play Peer Gynt, Dovregubben is a troll king that Peer Gynt invents in a fantasy. In the play, Peer enters this hall full of trolls and goblins and stands before the troll king where there is an uproar against Peer.
The piece actually has lyrics like "Skal han lages til sod og sø?" which means "Shall he be boiled into soup and broth?" or "Må jeg rive ham i håret?" or "May I tug him by the hair?". Yes, it's absolutely crazy but it's meant to be satire as part of the play and ultra-Norwegian patriotism and so I can see why they're proud of it
So are they trying to kill the Mountain King?
Interesting! Now I know why it was used in the Trolls movie
The only reason I knew this already was be ayes if total drama island heh
I learned the song's title after Apocalyptica covered it, but I'd heard other versions before then.
It is also asap science pi song
I mean, In the Hall of the Mountain King is pretty easy to remember compared to the usual Concerto in F Major for Kazoo and Orchestra Op. 43579234
Kazoo 😂😅
My personal favourite is 4'33" by John Cage.
@Backpackzack42
yea like all the tiktokers out there dont even have the concentration span to play it
Yeah I thought the name was pretty well known!

I love inspector gadget
After a friend identified this as Inspector Gadget in the early 2000s, I looked up that theme tune and it is indeed based on the Grieg original :)
I know that's right I was singing along waiting to see Dr claw
That's pumped up kick for sure... I started singing it when you began to play. Your coming along just great... good job
😨
it’s actually ur mom oooh got you elise!
This needs more replies 😆
She has a song called your mom
she didn't heart this lmao
the ur as well as elise made me think it was fur elise
It’s not ur mom 😂😂😂
I like how she is so energetic yet neutral.
This is what makes it so relatable, I think. Like Hello Kitty (you know her, you love her) or Bee (from Bee & Puppycat).
Chaotic neutral
If you like her "neutrality", you're ready to see "Max Ostro - Rhumba"
Same "neutrality" while he is _tearing up_ a guitar.
energetic yet flat face , that's smth
No energy and all the energy
It's originally Grieg: Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, "In the Hall of the Mountain King"
In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg. I don’t remember those days, but my Dad told me that when my sister and I were growing up, we would listen to this song over and over and over again because apparently we couldn’t get enough of it. I rediscovered the song two years ago, having not listened to it for probably at least ten years or something and I could see why I would have been doing that during my younger days.
Amazing job Elise. You are so talented.
thank you so much!

Those types of songs are usuallly so catchy tho and it's hall of the mountain king lol
Thank you so much. I couldn't place it and it was driving me nuts

Thanks. I knew I recognized it, but the only thing that was coming to mind was "Korobeiniki" (best known as the main Tetris tune), and I knew that wasn't right.

The vocalizing and spoon really gave me the answer: The Ballad of Elspoon. That’s the song name.

Cool! Some of us know the name of Greig's Hall of the Mountain King. Have you ever noticed that altering the rhythm and omitting a couple of notes gives you Inspector Gadget.
Inspector Gadget is the first thing I thought of.
I... I'm astonished.

No, but now that you mention it, yeah.
I literally just commented Inspector Gadget as its the only thing i knew it from

Thanks Elise. I got enlightened.
This put a smile on my face; I needed this. 🥰
That starting shot- what a power move
This is spot on.
I'm from South Africa and I've heard many times.
I always loved this song from "Needful Things" but I can always remember hearing it here and there growing up whether in a movie, tv show or commercial even. Great performance :)
One will often hear this tune when in the Hall of the Mountain King. He is quite a suspenseful fellow.
beautiful
I watched these videos twice: once to see the jump cuts Elise does, then a second time to hear the music and try to guess the song.
This video is so magical, I can overlook the fact that it's probably one of the top ten most-known classical music song names ever. Along with Anvil Chorus, 1812 Overture, Ride Of The Valkyries, O Fortuna, Fur Elise, Beethoven's 5th, Night On Bald Mountain, It's A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, and of course Linus and Lucy.
Don't forget the William Tell Overture.
Ahh yes, Ugly Kid Joe's Magnum Opus.. A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood.
Quite right sir.
*Moonlight Sonata?

I think you mean the theme of The Lone Ranger. You see, the ranger’s secret identity was William Tell and he was always overture his horse, Silver, because if he was underture his horse, Silver, he would be crushed. Horses are heavy, you know.
@@timopper5488 Mind blown!! 😄

It’s hall of the mountain king I think. Over here in the UK it’s used in adverts for a theme park called Alton Towers a lot
Beautiful
Came for the puzzle of what the song is and if I had heard it before, stayed for the absolute manic energy on display.
As someone who is Everybody, I can confirm that I've heard this song, but my buddy Nobody doesn't remember its name.

I think Elise just proved that you can play piano with anything: a box, a pencil etc etc
John Wick would be proud.
"She once played piano. With a pencil. A fucking pencil". 😀
But yeah, you're right.
How about that,Victor Borges!

In Scotland it was used as in an advert for Slater Hogg and Howison solicitors which was sung to the first few bars.

I actually knew this! I have very fond memories of this song playing at my grandpa's place when I was little, and then him and my dad would tell the story behind it while it played and it was AWESOME!

I feel like this is one of those songs that people used to hear and not know the name, but it's more well known now.
That is: "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Edvard Grieg, Grieg composed the piece between summer 1874 and summer 1875 and it was premiered on February 24, 1876 at the Christiania Theater in Christiania (today Oslo)
I hear it every time I enter a room.
Your voice is angelic ❤
I was so happy when I immediately knew the name! I'm not a music major or anything, i just happen to really enjoy some of the popular "classics". I know nobody cares but I just had to toot my own horn into the void lol!
Toot away; there's an echo, we can hear it (and harmonise) 😊
Edit: Better than soliciting some random youtuber to toot it for you.. or worse, offering to toot some random strangers horn. Ewww.
Sorry, couldn't help myself 😂
I looked it up after watching the rowing race scene in The Social Network. A cool scene in a great movie.
Grieg's "Morning Mood", also easy to recognize but hard to name, was written for the same Ibsen play.
Lol I remember our music teacher was teaching us this on piano one day, and everyone was so surprised that the song had a name 😂
Amazing video I love “in the hall of the mountain king” it’s such and amazing piece lol
I saw ELO play this years ago in the Seattle Coliseum
You are a kooky girl! Love it!
Thanks Elise! that's the song of my childhood! but uh you didn't give me the name of it so uhhh... (the part where you threw kirby got me so hard 😆)
Where did Elise get this sense of humor? It's so unique. I kind of think she's some sort of comedic genius along the lines of Andy Kaufman. I can't think of anyone else like her.
It came in the box from, How to sit down!
For a second,i thought it was 100 digits of pi-
In the hall of the mountain king. I used to play this on French horn in orchestra.
A lot of Norwegians, myself included, will know the name of the song as Dovregubbens Hall. Another one that many might have heard is "Morgenstemning"

Nope; guess again.
Hall of the Mountain King, or Dovregubbens hall as we say here in Norway.
Hall of the Mountain King! - remembered from sooo many hours playing Mountain King on my Atari as a kid...
I recognized it right away: it’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg, part of the Peer Gynt suite. But then, I’m good at “Name That Tune” if it’s popular classical music…. 😎
Original name: Dovregubbens hall (Norwegian)
Translated name: in the hall of the mountain king
The composer of this masterpiece is from Bergen, one of the biggest cities in Norway
