Man, what a great video and story. I graduated high school in 1984, so I was fortunate enough to live the best years of my life during this time. From listening to their debut album at my aunts house to waiting at Utopia, our local record store, buying 1984 on cassette the day it was released. We lived it, and it was awesome.
Dude, thank you so much for this. Not to mention any names, but others I have watched do not break it down quite like you did. Straight to the point and perfectly explained. You have definitely earned my sub, sir.
Eddy DOESN'Tplay the G on the B string Em7(not full root 5 shape), he just plays the B on the D string then slides up to the F#m7 with the A in (not full root 5 shape)
As far as Eddie's tuning, he tuned the guitar to itself - based on 440. The recording is somewhere between standard and half-step down. He often adjusted for the inevitable intonation problems of the guitar. Other players would do the same. That's why we sometimes just can't quite nail their exact sound, tone, or tuning.
@@ZachAdkinsGuitar ok I'm not trying to piss you off but your verse part is wrong the 2nd time around, he goes straight from the D Major triad to the Em one. 😐 I thought maybe it was just the demo but the studio version is like that too. Not that many people would notice but I knew something wasn't right I'm a stickler at covers lol. I mean you can play circles around me but I've caught Paul Gilbert playing War Pigs wrong lol 😉
@@ZachAdkinsGuitar The main thing is to get the tuning offset sorted. A lot people play these triads and shake them to cover up the unpleasant major thirds making beat tones all over the place, but if you use the tuning that Eddie used it sounds great just playing it the way he played it without vibrato: 1st string: Eb +12.7 cents 2nd string: Bb +26.9 cents 3rd string: Gb +34.6 cents 4th string: Db +35.0 cents 5th string: Ab +35.0 cents 6th string: Eb +26.7 cents

Welcome to the channel. Glad this helped you!!
Flatten the b string slightly and it will ring beautifully with the chords in the song just like Eddie did.
🤘

Seen him so it both ways live.
are you in 440? it seems off to me? i think the original is dropped down a bit too
Yes I'm in 440, since most people play that. The original is tuned a little strange

I felt bad for Marty Friedman (when he was at Viper Room with his solo band) - his hair kept getting in the way on stage lol
I have this problem everyday of my life hahah
Im "Like #69" & I love the Yellow SG !
It was a sweet guitar!
Check out the demo version... I actually like the solo feel a little better on this one!

Oh plus you forgot to teach the behind the nut part at the very beginning!
Damn it! Knew I was forgetting something haha
Oh nice. I'll definitely check it out

Not pissed! Always good to get advice
There’s no vibrato on any of the chords in this song. Listen to the isolated track…no vibrato.
Womp womp
