A good honest lesson on using taxis in Bangkok, especially the meter 🤣🤣
Chai meter Mai khap is the first words I say when getting a taxi in Bangkok. However 99.9% of Bkk taxi drivers have their meters on, unless you are in lower Sukhimvit late at night or in the early hours of the morning. Getting taxi drivers to use their meters is more of an issue outside of Bkk.
Think you got lucky lol I've taken many taxis here and so many just wanted to scam tourists
I rarely met a Taxi in Bangkok, that really used the meter.
One driver even drove me back to our pick up point, when I insisted on using it.

do you have any advice on how to distinguish between "chai" = yes and "chai" = use? When i hear these in a sentence they sounds same tone
What app Thai use for transferring money? In Australia, we use bank apps and in China we use WeChat pay.

What I'm missing: Giving directions to the driver, e.g. turn left / turn right / go straight ahead.

It feels a bit unfriendly to ask for the meter straight away, suspecting the driver of fraud. I presume the meter to be used, and almost always it is. But good to know the right words.
Hahaha. They are don't mind to cheat you and consider it as something natural, while you shy to ask them for something, that actually should be done without asking.
