Wow! You didn't only teach me the most important phrases in French, but also taught me how to travel and get around France! This video really prepares you to travel in every aspect! Merci Beaucoup, Madame
I went to Paris about 5 years ago, with a fluent French speaker, so I never had to learn or even try to speak the language….and after the first word I said in English, i felt like everyone hated me! Now taking my mom there for my 40th bd…and I feel a bit anxious for not knowing the language at all. So thank you for this very useful video! 💕
If I open with a French phrase or question to a Frenchman I get a french answer which I don't understand! awkward. The pleasantries like bonjour, merci, s'il vous plaît are useful but beyond that as a tourist with no French language skills I will always have to ask if they speak English right off the bat.
Same here and the same thing happened to us in Germany we would just say hello or excuse me followed by a do you speak English? I'm making my new year's resolution to speak another language.
Right. It's funny that guide books will tell you how to say all the important things completely ignoring the fact that you'll also have to understand the response.
I learned some Spanish and Portuguese for trips and when I used phrases in those languages as a nurse w/patients that is exactly what happened. They’d start speaking rapidly in their language.
We used a gesture of washing our hands to find a TOILET, hitching thru France in the 1960s. Sometimes, with comical results: the toilet and sink are sometimes in 2 separate spaces
Thank you so much for this video. I was feeling nervious about going to Paris next week. The silly language apps just teach you how to say "The apple is red".....
Excellent video! Short and to the point. Thank you. My wife and I have been to France many times and are thinking about retiring there. My biggest challenge with speaking my very limited French is not those basic words to say, but rather understanding the answers! What I usually find that works is to say, something like "Parle lentement, s'l vous plait." And if I've said that correctly the person will usually happily slow down their speaking.
We will be in Paris for 6 nights, then on a tour of France for 2 weeks. So, I would like to know some basics. The first half of this video was easy and stuff I already knew, but then I was lost with the longer phrases in the 2nd half. Guess I'll have to watch this a bunch more times. Anyway, impressive job on the video and a well deserved thumbs up!

Thank you so much! Will be sharing with my family for when we go! I only learned spanish in school so I was excited to learn some new phrases with phoenetics so this was great!
I'm heading to France next week so I'm doing a last minute bit of prep for need to know phrases. I'm a little confused because other sources have told me Je voudrais in place of J'aimerais, is there a difference or are they just different ways of saying the same thing? Great video, thanks for the helpful phrases!
Hello, French speaker here looking for videos for my spouse to watch. J'aimerais means I would like and Je voudrais means I would want. In the context or ordering something they mean the same thing!
You prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the login password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Casey Aydin I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

Dear Michelle.. Thank you so much for the video.. 🙏 I find difficulties in saying every "rrr" part , as in "merci" and "au revoir". I wonder if natives will understand or not about what I'm saying with my badddd pronounciation 😭🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wish I saw this video earlier,, as an Asian, a french guy with a beer yelled out Tchin Tchin to me yesterday and I literally thought he was being racist and confronted him.. I am so embarrassed now 😂
@@theintrepidguide nah I tend to be as Dutch as they come, giving something a thumbs up without seeing it doesnt compute with my brain😂 Guess your secret admirer mystery lingers on.. 😉

I appreciate the phonetic pronunciations in parentheses! Thank you.
I'm an proud language learner. French is the language
As an Australian travelling to France in the not to distant future (about 6 months) this video has been invaluable.
Loved it!
I learned more French in this short video than I ever learned from the silly language learning apps!! Thank you

Lmao I’m having that same experience at the moment. The pleasantries do help not be rude though.
I didn’t have this problem. The key is to butcher the pronunciation so poorly that they immediately know you don’t speak French.
We used a gesture of washing our hands to find a TOILET, hitching thru France in the 1960s. Sometimes, with comical results: the toilet and sink are sometimes in 2 separate spaces
Did you facepalm when you learned toilettes is the same word in french ?
Just arrived in Paris and your video is a life saver 😂thank you ❤
Yay! I’m so glad! Enjoy your time 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I was feeling nervious about going to Paris next week.

I think the most useful phrase is >.
Be careful. If you have limited language skills, you may be overwhelmed with the answer to a question such as asking for directions.

En français il faut dire NON plutôt que no.
Jesus loves you!
Just be careful with Chin-Chin… in Japanese its VERY rude! Just a heads up if you do get friends with Japanese people in a French speaking country…
Very useful! Thanks ☺️
I’m so glad 🙂🤩👏
