You are too kind, Bridget!! I'm so glad that you're enjoying the channel and that you're finding solo variants you can try for games that you enjoy! You'll have to report back on how your solo play goes! Good luck! 😊
Hey Dave, thank you for this playthru! YOu just got a new subscriber! I love how you simply went to the play right away and our Stone Age playthru Solo Variant and spot on as well! Great job!
I’m so glad it’s on BGA now! From playing online, I’m finding that I’m not as good at Azul as I thought I was! 😅 Are you familiar with the other versions of Azul?
I'm so glad you found this helpful! I've got a whole bunch of solo playthroughs on the channel-maybe there are other games you own that you didn't realize you could play solo! ☺️
I saw your comment and was worried I had missed something but I'm so glad I caught that during the playthrough! 😂 Counting to four is tricky sometimes! Nice catch!
They’re both wonderful games, although I’m admittedly partial to Stained Glass of Sintra! Now you just need Summer Pavilion to complete the trilogy! 👍🏼 (And then Queen’s Garden to complete the quadrilogy!) 😂
Oh my goodness! You have a very keen eye! 500+ views on this playthrough and I don't think anyone else noticed that! I have no idea why I did that; obviously that tile should have gone in the center supply instead. Well, that was one fewer tile that could have potentially ended up on my board! Thanks for pointing that out and for leaving a comment!
What do you do if you run out of tiles in the bag? If you do like the manual says, to put the tiles from the box back in the bag. Do you put the tiles you took out for the AI back too?
Great question! It looks like the solo variant rules state "The game will end after 5 rounds when the bag is empty". So no extending the game to six rounds and therefore no need to refill the bag, it sounds like! Thanks for the question! ☺️
Great question! The AI always looks for the biggest set from the factory tiles first! If it can't find any sets there, it then looks for the biggest set in the discard pile. I linked to the rules in the description if you find that helpful! Thanks for checking out the playthrough! ☺
Not a stupid question at all and it’s SO funny that you asked/caught that! I kid you not, I panicked and thought I had missed an opportunity to get all five of those blue pieces on the board by not doing exactly what you said and went back a turn or two to fix that exact move… and then realized that then I wouldn’t have the blue piece in the top row and it didn’t matter anyway! Plus putting the blue piece at the top gave me three extra points for adjacencies (the black and red tiles I placed below it) so that made more sense! That’s what that cut at 13:21 was for; I had to put all the pieces back the way I had them and continue scoring from there! 😅 Extremely observant, Melski! Thank you so much for watching!
I love Azul, the only thing getting me from playing solo is that the ai always gets the biggest group. For me thats kinda annoying, since it doesn't feel like a fun solo fun. Im al for planning groups and hoping/knowing my opponents wont/can't take them. But if my group of 4 or 5 in the middle keeps taken, is it still fun?
Hey there! Thanks for the comment! For me, I still find this solo variant enjoyable, even though it is a little harsh that the AI always gets the biggest group! It's worth a try at least! ☺️ (And if you want a more human-like solo variant, I think there's ones on BGG where the AI opponent has its own player board and everything-you could give that a try!)
If you play the box of delight rulles, the dummy tages the set of tilse from the left (top) factory if there are more factories with same size sets. No need to through the die in that situation.
Thank you for the reminder! I think a die is necessary if there are the same number of tiles on a single factory display but you're right that it's not often necessary to use it! ☺️
@@BoardGameDave I actually think it t’s more important to play it the same way every time, than to follow a specifik set of rules, when you play solo. Especially if you Care about compare the scoring. However, if you want to compare scores to others it becomes important. I just now realize, that what you do actually makes it more challenging, because you can’t rely on what the dummy does. When using the “Box of Delights” rules, you can think several rounds ahead. Your way prevents that. Playing with others, you can try to guess their strategy, but you don’t know it for sure. The dummy doesn’t have a Wall that you can base a guess on. I think I will try it your way. Henceforth known as the BoardGameDave rules. :o) Thank you.
@@dortheschlelein5000 Thank you again for commenting, Dorthe! ☺ Let's try to use your less predictable way of playing the AI and then we can compare our scores with each other, at least!
Hey, Gary! Thanks so much for watching (and with such a keen eye)! I just went back and looked though the rulebook: there are four pattern line stipulations but none of them say I can’t start a new line with an unfinished line of the same color! (You know I used to play Azul incorrectly in the past though, so I’m glad you checked!) ✔️
Yeah, I don't know, either! You can't split tiles you take in one turn (if you pick up three yellow, you can't put one in one row and two in the other, for example), maybe that's what you were thinking of?
(p.s. I’m so sorry if you’ve been trying to comment and the comments aren’t showing up! This seems to happen on my videos sometimes, usually only when the video first gets uploaded! Was the automa by Mark on BGG the one you were talking about?)
I took a quick glance at the rules! Looks much more involved than the variant I’m familiar with but it looks interesting and you’re not the only one who recommended it to me! Maybe I’ll give it a try sometime! 👍🏼 Thanks!
7:44 that’s legitimately, what a real actual player would do
Haha, that’s true!! 🤣
LOVE this play through!! Can’t wait to try it myself!! 😊😊 My new favorite channel!! 👍🏽

@@BoardGameDave yup! I have the summer pavilion one. Such a beauty to play!

1:00 Why did you put the yellow tile back in the box?

11:45 shouldn't the AI have taken the three stars in the market?

12:38, stupid question, why didnt you finish your bottom row with that blue piece instead of filling the top row? (Hi btw, thanks for the solo play)
