  • 👋In todays video, lets go over some techniques you should avoid while driving a manual transmission vehicle! We also have several videos on how to drive a manual if you need more in-depth tutorials for help!
First on the list is to always use the clutch pedal while changing gears. Improperly shifting when the engine and transmission speeds aren't matched can cause series harm and premature wear for your vehicle. A grinding noise could be heard or lockouts of a gear completely. A technique called "float shifting" could be used, but that's not applicable for every vehicle or every driver!
Don't rock back and forth at a light! This can cause the clutch to slip and it's just not safe with traffic behind you.
Don't sit at a light with the vehicle in gear for minutes on end. No need to leave the clutch spring expanded for no reason and give your left leg a rest!
Don't rest your hand on the shifter or your foot on the clutch pedal. The shifter is connected to the transmission and the pressure resting on the shifter pushes against the gearing and it the clutch pedal slightly pressed can cause the clutch to slip. You have an arm rest or the steering wheel for your hand placement and a dead pedal for your foot!
Don't dump the clutch or release abruptly. Practice rev matching or controls releasing of the clutch while coming to a stop. You saw what can happen in this video :)
Don't leave your car in neutral to park. This was cause no harm to leave the car in gear and it's a great fail safe if the parking brake were to come loose.
Don't floor the car at low speeds while in a high gear! This can cause harm to the engine and oil pressure and in turbo engines, cause pre-ignition and damage to spark plugs.
Don't coast in neutral, you need to be ready for any scenario that may appear and by staying in neutral, you have no power or control of the vehicle.
Hopefully these tips helped and you can enjoy driving your manual, and prolong the life of the clutch, shifter and the engine!

    When I had a manual transmission I shifted a lot from 2nd to 4th or 3rd to 5th.

I watched the whole vid even though I haven’t owned a manual in over 5 years.

#1 Put a teenager behind the wheel 😂. I can shift without a clutch but you have to be precise. I did this in my big rig when I used to drive trucks.

Big rigs don’t have synchros that’s y u can float em. A modern manual tho there’s no point whatsoever. 389 Pete driver.

13:35 Sorry, have to call bullshit on that. Gliding in neutral in a MT car is one of the safest most enjoyable things you can do!

It's also one way to get great MPGs, coasting uphill to slow down, coasting downhill to speed up, I've been doing that for 25 years and never had a problem.

How’s it the most enjoyable? Like I said, I do that sometimes as well, but hardly ever.

You have research on that to improve mpg? Those aren’t related.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I do - 20 plus years of research. I gave your video a thumbs up and you are right about everything else, just keep that in mind please.

Oh cool. Yeah if you can lower your rpm to idle when coasting downhill, you'll definitely save. a bit of gas. Probably not a crazy amount per tank. But cool
