FYI the reason Johnson called that play up today was because earlier in the year Jordan Love fumbled a snap that resulted in a long completion to a TE due to how the Bears reacted to it. Like it was literally the same route LaPorta ran. He saw that and asked Goff earlier in the week if he could recover an intetional dropped snap like that and he said he wasn't sure so Johnson pivoted to Goff stumbling and the RB falling down instead. Goff said they had the play called earlier in the game but he didn't like the look on defense so he audibled out of it, this time he liked it and they went with it. Now it just gives teams one more thing to think about in the future.

There’s no way in hell, the Vikings let Sam walk in the offseason… The staff, players and the fans love him and believe in him! He is becoming and cementing himself as a franchise quarterback and I do not trust that JJ McCarthy will ever become a franchise quarterback… However, he was the 10th overall pick and the Vikings have a dilemma with who to roll with moving forward. You can have both as QB & backup, again you have a ton of cap to add key pieces to turn this team into a juggernaut, Darnold will need to take less than what he's worth to make the team better
How he plays in the playoffs though will be huge though for Darnold as good as this season has been for him. It's like Lamar Jackson, I'd take him over about any player in the regular season, but there's probably 8-10 QBs I'd take over Lamar if I were in the playoffs.
Absolutely correct. Sam is a Josh Allen type. Not as athletic but tough and will compete big time. Not even KOC can say McCarthy can give the Vikings what Sam has done this year. I hope the storybook ending is coming.
JJ doesn't need to give them Sam production. He can give them 80% if they use the $60M in cap to bolster the roster with 4-5 impact players. Trust KOC. What gets lost in this gritty Vikings win. Is how terrible/one sided the officiating was. Lockett set an illegal pick on JSN's TD, Metcalf pushed off on his TD, Varner didn't even catch his TD. Bogus spot on Seattle's fake punt. And apparently the gritty is illegal now? Ntm another celebration penalty on the game sealing Int. And Minnesota still won!
I agree except with the Varner TD part. He did catch it. His foot was down and then his knee, that’s equivalent to having 2 feet down. He also survived the ground.
The officiating was just bad all around. Some of it definitely in favor of Seahawks, but blatant missed holding call on darnolds go ahead TD to Jefferson, multiple missed PIs on Vikings secondary. At the end of the day vikes were just better
@twoplank9731 There were just as many, if not more missed, holding calls that went against Minnesota. But I'm not going to argue semantics. Larger point is officiating league wide has never been worse. There needs to be accountability for these crews that have terrible games.

He's certainly among the problems. He's a solid game manager, nothing more. If he's willing to take $30 mil/season that's reasonable. More than that is ridiculous.
This is so unbelievably predictable. San Francisco is starting their 5th string RB, 3rd string LT, 2nd string guard, no #1 WR, Purdy has absolutely no time to throw and when he’s driving them down to score, Pearsal commits 2 penalties, they attempt a field goal and the kicker misses. He throws an INT when Campbell comes unblocked up the center and hits him while he’s throwing. Yep, totally on Purdy. On the other hand you have Sam Darnold, who is playing well, behind a great O-line, has arguably the best WR tandem in the league, a top TE, and maybe the best defense in the league - and they still almost lost the game. But Sam’s amazing. Just sit back and press play and you hear Colin say this every week. It’s actually comical.
@ being 8th doesn’t constitute being a great oline. Darnold’s been sacked 45 times, 4th most in the league and the run game is middle of the pack. If Darrisaw was playing, maybe they’d be considered a good oline but they are pretty average now, the strengths of the offense is the QB and WR’s.

The play where sam just wen down in the backfield and took the sack when we were in field goal range was his 2nd best play of them game. Colin is a fool and an LA homer. These guys are delusional, Brock is getting paid lol. Next season we’ll be back in the nfc championship game and Colin will flip flop again
Literally the only thing I see being said about him is the 9ers shouldn’t pay him top of the market money because they won’t be able to afford a good enough roster around him to be successful. Seems like an extremely reasonable opinion to me unless you believe Purdy to be a top tier qb in the nfl, which he’s clearly not.
I think they assume everything good about him is because of Shanahan. Notice they still praise Shanahan and act like he’s a god while bashing Purdy in the same breath
Sam Darnold is getting better and better every week I was all in on JJ McCarthy but Sam is became a SUPER QB and he has not reached his full potential yet we can not let him get away no chance 🏈 SKOL !
I think what Vikings fans are becoming sure of this year, is how much overpaying a QB can hurt your team. Even keep you in perpetual NFL purgatory ( the always a bridesmaid or team that can wreck a real playoff contenders year). Look at Dan Marino’s career if you think a great QB can win a superbowl without great players. I don’t see the Vikings willing to go back to not having the money to build the team they want. I think if you want to have a great winning career you are smart to learn to live with 25million a year and have a great supporting cast. Seems you would doubtless make more money in endorsements over your career as a multi superbowl QB than Kirk Cousins. Kirk made more than Tom Brady from the NFL, but not while in the NFL. Also, I really trust our leadership now. If KOC says JJ is our guy, I believe him.
100% man! This isn't "system QB play". VERY FEW of Sam's throws are designed plays. If you watch, he goes to his second or third check down when his first, KOC called play isn't open. Him taking a sack instead of tossing an INT or stopping the clock and that last JJ TD toss was ALL Sam. No, he's special and special costs money.
Colin is the definition of recency bias. He dropped the Lions from #1 to #6 and put the Rams ahead of them. Now tonight the Rams are okay and would be lucky to squeak out a playoff win. Whatever Colin has seen last is what he thinks is the best.
as Colin always says. draw your life with a pencil not a pen and never be to stubborn to admit wrong and adapt given new information. not doing so is stupidity. aside from that Rams are mid and Stafford gets excused for missing 2 receivers while Purdy is missing more and getting bashed for it
@sprayer97 If that's the case what's the point in making a ranking to begin with? The Lions lost one game in three months, by 6 points, to an excellent Bills team. That justifies dropping them 5 places and putting the Rams and Green Bay ahead of them? Whom the Lions had literally JUST beaten? And they beat the Rams too. Colin was raving about how good the Rams are, they're healthy, they've got their weapons back etc etc. Now tonight he says the Lions have the better roster, and LA will be lucky if they can squeak out a single playoff win. @@ADUSN that's why he has a whole segment of where Colin was wrong on his show on national tv. to never have to admit being wrong... some of you clowns out there rly...
Do they have the cap room for that? For a QB it's going to be $40,000,000 fully guaranteed, all against the cap for that year. You can't do any creative accounting. I'm genuinely asking. Do they have that space?
17:00 Great OC don’t “save plays for the playoffs” by putting it on film you are actually setting up your next play even more effectively. Ben Johnson has spoken publicly about this multiple times
Yes maybe you get defenses spending time practicing the defense on it.....although that trick may not work on a disciplined defense like Vikings, they don't overreact even when swarming
One thing people are forgetting about Darnold is that he has been banged up in the latter half of this season but his play, if anything, has been elevated. That tells me something about his determination and he clearly wants to be in Minnesota coached by KOC.
He’d probably look relatively average. He’s a good qb who can be great with a good team and good coach. Pretty much every single qb in the league besides Mahomes and Allen are going to look average at best with a mediocre roster. You’re kind of seeing what Mahomes looks like with an average team around him and Allen would probably look significantly worse as well. It’s just a weird premise to me. The talent around the qb is obviously going to be a huge determining factor in how successful they are and how well they play.
Let’s see…last season Detroit played 2 home playoff games, won both, then lost on the road. You think home field doesn’t matter? Sean McVey even said that playoff game was the most intense environment he’s ever been in. Home field means a lot, especially in the playoffs. Only 3 road games were won in the playoffs last year, and 2 of those were the Chiefs.
Yeah they should. Let the Vikings walk all over a 2 and 3 string teams (which are basically their defense at this point) and give Minnesota the 1 seed.
Really? The more a QB gets paid; the less expensive talent they get to have around them because of the salary cap. You understand that, right? That's why they changed the rookie wage scale, so a top 5 QB bust doesn't hamstring the team for 4/5 years.
Dont tell me Kyle Shanahan missed the playoffs this year? Colin and John both said he's the 2nd best coach in the league. There are 0 excuses. Other coaches deal with even more injuries, and those two say it's their fault.
i honestly don't understand how anyone with a Tv actually watching games and not just checking stats can say Caleb hasn't been playing awful without immediately getting checked for CTE
Colin said Bo Nix surpassed JD by leaps and bounds for ROTY. Bo kept the seat warm while JD Is injured for 3 games but to say Bo is better is just biased take

Mid season i thought it was more crucial that Vikings get the one seed, where the depth of Det can go on the road easier, 4-5 gms later that may have flipped due to the major injuries to Det's defense.
As a Vikings fan, I’m so thankful Darnold was fostered in the Shanahan system before heading to the Vikings. Everyone is waiting for Darnold to smolder out, and yet he lead his most impressive drive of the season on the road when the crowd seemed like it was booming. Funny enough, I hope the 49rs don’t outbid the Vikings for him!!
Darnold has consistently lead the team down the field in crunch time, or when a team scores getting momentum, he takes the ball and marches down the field, getting the score lead back
JJ McCarthy sitting and learning the pro game for a couple years is not the worst thing in the world. Even the GOAT, Montana, mostly watched for a couple years.

The talent around the qb is obviously going to be a huge determining factor in how successful they are and how well they play.
The Vikings disrespect in the media is insane. Top five defense and elite offense.
Top 5? They are poor in the air, upper 20s, second on the ground. Good turnover differential.
The offense is good, but it’s not elite. The defense overall is better than the offense.
@@jacobsims8307 pace and Smith should be back.
@@HockeyDudeJames2 that might get them to top 5. Got the potential.
@@paulmayer8654i agree that our offense is not elite. Too inconsistent
The Lions should rest all their starters now. Get healthy for the playoffs. Same with the Chiefs. Home field means nothing anymore
If they beat SF and GB beats Minnesota, they probably can rest them in week 18
@reptonplaya yes they can because Phi lost today, Det wins 1 more gm and Min loses , than they have secured 1st seed
Young Daniels is Incredible
not too shabby is he
@brentinnes5151 Impressive he is
Who wants to listen to him talk about how great Matt Stafford is? 19 whole points!
Glazing an ancient qb
He still top 5 easily
@@notoriousLSGshow he never was
@@marklumar2034pat Lamar Allen burrow then Stanford so he’s at the edge of the t5
@evanrushing7495 i definitely wouldnt have him top 5 but even i did i think theres such a big gap between the top 4 and everyone else
Colin nailed Washington. He picked them from the start
These guys act so offended if qb's get paid, what's it to them? It's not coming out of their pocket and not fans as well..
Maybe bcuz all fans wanna to be gms & build the best possible roster under the cap
Omg how dare the sports guy talk about football on the football podcast
Really? The more a QB gets paid; the less expensive talent they get to have around them because of the salary cap.
You understand that, right? That's why they changed the rookie wage scale, so a top 5 QB bust doesn't hamstring the team for 4/5 years.
Colin saying playmaking twice is peak Colin talking about Sam Darnold 😂 10:25
Dont tell me Kyle Shanahan missed the playoffs this year? Colin and John both said he's the 2nd best coach in the league. There are 0 excuses. Other coaches deal with even more injuries, and those two say it's their fault.
Definitely no excuses he could be better but there are still valid reasons
Sam Darnold - certified stud
😂
Justin Jefferson makes all his QBs look like studs. Look at Kirk Cousins now.
@@NeverB_Gameover just keep taking away from Sam. Nick didn’t look like this at all not even close. Dobbs didn’t, he had a magical couple of games.
17:30 the bears are not a bad team, they were .500 last year, then added a bunch of studs to the offense. Caleb is a problem
They also had a weaker strength of schedule last year
i honestly don't understand how anyone with a Tv actually watching games and not just checking stats can say Caleb hasn't been playing awful without immediately getting checked for CTE
Colin said Bo Nix surpassed JD by leaps and bounds for ROTY. Bo kept the seat warm while JD
Is injured for 3 games but to say Bo is better is just biased take
It’s remarkable that Minnesota or Detroit will be 14-3 and going on the road as the 5 seed in the playoffs
And GB will be a double digit win team too
Time to change the format. Division winners are a joke in a sorry 4 Division teams in the South.
They talking bout playing in the cold when we just put up 34 in cold ass Chicago and we also put up 24 in cold ass Green Bay, Hwo tf do these dudes come up with these takes💀
you wouldn’t of assumed darnold would so why not mccarthy? it’s coaching guys
No, he didn't. Montana started in 1980. He was drafted in 1979. He played every game his rookie season, though more as a backup. But he became the defacto starter partway through the 1980 season

Funny. Colin was all-in on the Falcons signing Kirk Cousins when it was announced.
He was better than what they had and no one thought they would draft a quarterback
How many more win with cousins?
You know Colin changes his opinion every week right? Lol
He said it was a good move, not that it was going to win them a championship. He said cousins is a game manager and will make Atlanta relevant bit not win them too many games.
Am I trippin or does uncle Collin look baked ? Ahaha
It's funny how people forget Lamar has been winning without legit WRs and RBs. This is the first season he's had offensive teammates.
Colin's mouth is watering when he talks about Darnold.....
Vikings top 3 team in the nfl
@@CoryOwens-m9h no
Beat the Lions first then talk
@shawnzinator that's not how that works bud. The lions aren't better than the eagles or vikings rn because of health. Period.
@@mbwell yep
It has to be pointed out that Montgomery for the Lions is expected to be back for the playoffs and defensive guys too though uncertain how many. So not quite as bad as it's being portrayed on here. Gibbs is not going to be doing the bulk of the carries as was suggested.
Finally an episode where Colin doesn’t glaze Sean Payton
Because they played Thursday.
@@NeverB_Gameover oh true lol
he does glaze awful Caleb though for not throwing int's on a 9 game loosing streak... dude must be a stud loosing 9 games in a row without throwing picks
okay i totally get that you don’t want to pay Brock Purdy top dollar. but it’s disingenuous to compare him to Sam Darnold as some sort of success story. It’s literally the same thing, they’re both quarterbacks that can succeed when things are great. To say ‘you can see wow’ with Darnold after one year whereas we’ve seen Purdy make wow plays on the way to the Super Bowl, come on Colin. As Nick would say, they’re both civilians. Not elite, good players. These guys are going to be saying the same thing about Darnold as they’re saying about Purdy in a year or two and are going to look stupid.
53:26 Yea but you suck Josh Allen off and Josh has the same amount of rings as Lamar. And two less MVP’s.
It doesn't mean anything in regards to the playoffs. Anything can happen. But the Vikings can't be any less than #4 in the Hierarchy this week. That was a big-time win.
How about some CoTY chatter about Dan Quinn??????
Stahpp. Vikings coach
@ only asking for chatter!!!!!!
Week 18 Sunday Night Lions vs Vikings for the one Seed 🍿🍿
Brock Purdy has lost more money this season than any player I can remember in a long time.
It's like how ga QB Carson Beck lost $ this year in college
😂 he’s getting 50+ million
Ask Bo and Caleb how good Penix is. Penix is gonna make Atlanta a lot better. Receivers will want to play with him. His peak starts now.
I dont think his talent has ever been a question its really just about his durability
And his team won because of a good running game. However he seems to have the it factor (winning). Just makes everyone play better. SAM has that now
VEGAS MADE MONEY 💰 TOday !!!!!!!!!! RIGG GAMES EVERYWHERE!!!!! REFS DONT HIDE IT ANYMORE
15:57 until this week Caleb wasn't really throwing the ball down field.. it's a lot easier to throw the ball when the defense is playing back because you're down 3 scores
Rams 1 lost last season on there hot streak was by a punt return TD in OT at Baltimore. Rams at their ceiling are LEGIT SB contenders, but the NFC is going to be a dogfight.
Defense is real hot and cold tho
Ehh they were 2 and done last year and will likely be again this year after winning a division that i see more as the better teams just losing
Hyping up Sam Darnold the exact same way yall hyped up Purdy just a couple years ago. Hyperbole much
"You don't want Goff throwing 40 times a game"
How many times goff dunk on this shit narrative before it stops lmao
Its not a bad narritive cuz you acrually dont want any QB throwing 40 times but with the lions specifically its probably best to utilize your offensive line and running game to limit the amount of times your QB is put in harms way and to control the clock especially with a depleted defense.
In week 4 Sam was struggling to get the play call in on time and taking delay of game penalties, now he is changing calls at the line in must have drives, in the rain, and in front of the hostile 12th man, against a desperate Seahawks team.
