    Ive always said to anyone that Steven Page is the only singer I know of that sounds better live than he does on a CD, he just sings with so much emotion in his voice, watching this vidio just about broke my heart, he was clearly at rock bottom and needed his bandmates to be there for him, not toss him aside because it ruined their image. BNL will never be the same without Steve,

    When you grow up loving a band and then as a 30 year old you still feel that love for their music, there aren't many bands that you still feel the same about so many years later. I miss Steven Page and BNL, maybe someday they'll be back together and all will be right in the BNL universe.

    BNL just isn't the same without Page. They're a great band, but there is a distinct vocal that he brought that simply can't be replaced or deleted.

    I just saw Steven at a talk last night about mental illness and he sang a few songs here and there...I swear every time he sang I would get goosebumps...he is one of the greatest and most memorable singers ever imo!!

  • @worschtee1

    I don't think Steve's performance had anything to do w/ drugs. He KNEW he was leaving the band. Dealing with the raw emotions of singing a BEAUTIFUL song while knowing he would NEVER AGAIN sing with them, do another S & D cruise with them, share the stage with them, laugh with them, cry with them, spend time with them as a group OR as friends...you KNOW it affected him. How could it not? And how ironic...he knew that when he "called", his buddies would no longer be there to "answer." So sad.

    I can't help but think that musically BNL is like the Beatles... 2 musical giants who ultimately parted ways. In this song, Ed's part even sounds Beatle-like. But I must say I think Steve Page is the most emotionally true and heartwrenching songwriter. Mc

    Again, why did I read the damn comments. I want to cry just watching this. Not even knowing it was the last song, or that it was dedicated to someone recently deceased. The emotion involved, makes me just want to cry. Now I wish I could just go and play all of their somber music on random and sit in the fetal position while crying.

  • @BridgitW

    Every time I watch this I end up crying. The song is so emotional anyway, so when you top it off with using it as Page's last song with his band...
    The emotion in this performance is overwhelming. You can hear and feel his heart breaking as he is singing the last notes of the song. That moment when he realizes the song is over...

    This song is another BNL beauty. The way that Steven annunciates his words is amazing. Starting at 5 minutes is some mouth movement which is what makes him sound so, well, Steven Page.

  • @RantingThespian
    @RantingThespian 11 років тому +4

    Well, Ed didn't want Steve to leave. He's said that, and also the song You Run Away also states that obviously. However the rest of BNL respected his decision and they went their separate ways.

  • @sonicsleftnut
    @sonicsleftnut 12 років тому +3

    Such a shame but I fully believe Steve did it totally to himself. He was his own worst enemy at the end of his BNL run. It's so obvious that there is so much tension there and they all know it's over for them as a 5-piece. But I guess Ed, Jim, Kev and Tyler are all happier now. I guess it always sucks when your favourite band loses someone as powerful as Steve...

    All breakups create some sort of tension, even if it's not a bitter one. Yes there is some resentment from Ed, Tyler, and maybe Jim and Kevin. However, that doesn't mean they don't care about each other, or even love each other. McCartney and Lennon had a very public and rough split when the Beatles broke up, but they still loved each other dearly (which is obvious by the many many times they visited each other in the 70s, when they almost went on SNL together, and McCartney's song Here Today).

    It's just sad on so many levels. Its sad for him, his band mates, his family that he embarrased, the fans....but the band has def moved forward. Their concert this summer was awesome. I was lucky enough to meet Ed and the rest of the guys and they are a class act. I'll always be a fan of BNL and Page. Everyone makes mistakes and I think the band had no choice but to move on without him. I am just glad they kept going and didn't break up all together.

    You can tell the band is not tight.The vocals are flat and disjointed. Such a sad example of the greatness that is the BNL. One wonders if Page was using during this and how he got it on the ship...regardless, I have hope that they will reunite to resume the brilliance that was, sadly I fear I have grown up only to have memories of what was the greatest expression of music that I have ever known. I miss them, together, terribly.

    Approximately five days later, Page decided he wanted out. The decision was not made public until 24 February.

    at some point we will do a fair assessment of the talent that come out of Canada that is attributed to America, and I am American, but this band in particular I am sensitive to appropriate designation- they lead me through love loss and on up to marriage- what a great underrecognized band.....absolutely one of the best band of the 90's. The only band to hold a candle to U2.....REM was their 80s competitor.....this band was their

It sounds like Steven got pushed out of the band he co-founded because he was arrested (though charges were later dropped) & he felt he was being shoved to the side musically. I don't think the other members should have kept the BNL name - that was Steve & Ed. Just my opinion. I love love love this song though.
