Nice video! I as a German volunteer firefighter would be interested about the general structure of the American Fire Departments. Because I do not know much how the American FDs are structured, for example when a FD is volunteer, when there are payed firefighters, how your fleets build up, those basic information. Because I cannot find this general information in the internet.
Thankfully there was no extension to the home. Flames spread into a grassy hillside with pine trees that sits between the two structures and firefighters stopped it there.

Happy Holidays to all of SMFR. As usual interesting and informative vlog Eric, Thanks for the information as always. How are the crews taking to the tiller training? Are just 2 personal training at a time or is the entire Company going out on the trainings? A tiller ladder sets up differantly then other ladders that SMFR members are used to. Each type or style of ladder truck or other aerial unit sets up differantly based on things like it reach and type. I am guessing that is also a part of the trainig going on with the training tiller. So where is the current ladder 34? i do not recall how large that station is and what tapparatus are assigned there. Thanks again Eric.
When either dispatch or on scene command ki think bc4) was communicating just before the 6min mark there was mention of the start of a “10 minute timer”. Was this an offensive timer before the next alarm was activated for additional response since this is what appears to be a unrated response area since there was no immediate utilization of on scene or nearby hydrants??
SMFR Dispatch starts a 10-minute timer on all working fires and gives those benchmarks to command until they say to stop. The timer begins at the time of the first 911 call.
Rescue 34 and Tower 34 are due for replacement and SMFR's model of cross-staffing them can cause response delays. Purchasing a tiller saves the cost of replacing both vehicles and will allow the combination aerial/rescue to be staffed at all times.
Yes, Hägglunds tracked vehicle suffered a major mechanical problem and the cost versus benefit to replace it was not justified. It will be replaced by a Lenco MedCat in late 2024 which will be used regularly by SWAT Medics and occasionally for deep snow events.
I have some other questions for your department/you Eric, How many PIO's dose SMFR have currently.
