As a lifelong surfer but someone who is now probably too old to do short boards and wanting to get more into longboards, this is the perfect primer for me. Thank you!
I've been surfing shortboards on and off for 40 yrs, just bought a log and have surfed it once. This is the best information on how to noseride i've come across. After all these years surfing, back to the whitewater i go.
Hey Simon, If you get footage of your drills we could do a video review and analysis with you. Longboarding is a great way to improve your shortboarding. I've always done both !!! Head Coach and Co-owner Surf Simply

This video is amazinnggg, just got my first nose ride ever three sessions after watching this and implementing the tips here, fantastic job you guys 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Thanks Ru. I have been working on cross stepping and this drill is going to be helpful. But the only way I am REALLY going to get it is to come back to Surf Simply! Hopefully, someday soon.
Thank you so much I’ve been trying to walk the nose while on the shoulder and away from the pocket and I’m definitely going to start stalling the board to where I have to walk to the nose to keep riding the wave. Thank you so much
@@singlefin8077 I had my first longboard competition for my high school team last Tuesday and bottom turn faded and then walked to the nose on almost every wave that set up for a nose ride. Super fun, this video helped me out the most because you have to wait until your gonna lose the wave if you don’t run up on that nose and put weight on it
@@cades.clips101 Sounds like you had lots of fun! Yes, I tried to stall today and noticed the same that you need to walk to the nose and put wait on it to carry on! I just need to practice over and over now! All the best!
@@singlefin8077 yeah just watch some longboarders with good style like Alex knost and try not to be a spaz with your arms flailing around running to the nose
Position yourself as close to the pocket/ breaking section as possible - thats where our stability comes from when noseriding. Soft waves are challenging as the rail isnt able to engage and offer grip and support, steeper waves are more suitable so the rail can engage and hold us in position and also whitewater on the tail at the breaking section counter balances our weight on the nose.
Hey Tony. we could break this down even more with you if you are interested. We offer Workshops that could cover hanging 10. contact us at info@surfsimply.com for more information - Head Coach and Co-owner of Surf Simply
@@SurfSimply Yes tnx!! decades of training indeed! It would be cool to see some more advanced longboard technique training videos, there are not a lot online.
I have a serious question, I have a traditional nose rider with a Deep spoon and I cannot get use to it, I use to have a performance 9ft WRV it didn't have the spoon contour and on that one when I started losing the wave or needed to clear a flat section I would go to the nose to get speed but on the nose rider when I walk to the nose it feels like I slow down I'm guessing it's because on the performance it was flat so I started plaining but with the spoon what is happening
Hi Single Fin, that is a challenging question to answer! Noseriding is certainly one of the more complex manoeuvres in surfing. I’d recommend some coaching and video analysis if you want to speed up the process.
@@SurfSimply Thank you, yes I will look into coaching and video analysis, thank you. So I kept a 'target' you refer to in one of your videos. Mine was to stall towards the end of the wave ride and it makes a difference... the board asks you to walk if you want to continue riding the wave. Practice, practice and practice now! So much fun! Thanks for the great tips!
Possibly the best surf tip video I’ve ever watched.

Yes, I noticed the same with myself... I think I know the theory... not I need the practice. I see your post was 6 months ago... how did it go?

As usual, incredibly insightful !
Thanks the one thing I have struggled with for ever is how to get that board into the critical position.
Incredible how you made it so simple! thank you!

That white water practicing is a great tip, indeed decades of training. I got hang fives under control but ten's I still not mastering, got any tips ?

Muchas gracias Ru!
Thank for the tips. Any recommendation on the best longboard type for Learning to noise ride?
Hi Lemon, if you look at our Surfing Explained series we have an episode on Longboard Outlines that will answer your question :)
“Getting the board to where you have to get to the nose to stay on the wave”. That’s all I think about now while on the wave 😂
Perfect tips!
Amazing. This makes perfect sense
I guess it depends on many factors but how long could it take to learn to hang 5 and 10 for someone who surfs whenever the surf is on?
