I was recommended this video by Craig at Ikea Edinburgh when I returned to the store having failed to pair a second blind to my existing remote. I wish I had watched it before wasting 3 hours and failing. Everything working fine now. I have added a link to my review of their Praktlysing smart blind. Thanks.
Just came across your channel while researching the blinds, glad I found your channel you’ve gained another subscriber! Cheers Jon
Thank you so much. It’s great to hear when a video helps someone
4:28 That was just what I needed to know. Thank you!
Very nice video, thank you! I have just now (1 min ago) installed a FYRTUR blind but now see that although the whole blind mechanism itself is level (proven by using a level bubble) the cloth of the blind is wound unevenly on the roller pin. One way of saying this is that it 'telescopes' out at one end. So it raises/lowers unevenly and the only video I've found so far that addresses this is by sequentially adding little pieces of tape to the too-high end for the purpose of evening it out. I'm hoping there's a little better solution, so I'll keep looking.
Thanks for the helpful information!
You are user Hero!!! 👍🏼 Thank you soooo much 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great video. Took me a minute to understand what the “O map” is (home app), but that is because I am an idiot American. Thanks again. I look forward to watching your other videos about HomeKit.
Awesome review. Convinced me to buy 2. They work really well and are reasonably priced.
Amazing stuff
Can you use one remote for more than one blind?
Hi, thabks for all the help greatly appreciated. I have had a problem - after setting routines in the ALEXA APP, the blind remotes have stopped working, is that to be expected?
I know you can set the length of the blinds, can yo set where they stop at the top?
did you find out? id like to know same. tsk
@@Spudsnruf I do it in Homekit, but don't know how to do it via the switch.
Hi, thanks for the tips! If I have window grilles indoors that protrude out, can I flip the blinds to drop towards me rather than the default away from me?
I’ve installed two of these and so far I’m really pleased with them!
Honestly, my only complaint is the ‘gap’ between the edge of the blind fabric and the inside edge of the blind roller. I feel they could have reduced this which would also reduce the gap between blinds when installed in series. I realise there has to be some free space to allow for an uneven furl which may cause the blind to run up either more left or right on the roller.
I’ve seen a couple of videos where these blinds are cut or trimmed to fit window openings, and am tempted to try this when I install the next few (I’ll have to cut them either way to fit, so will reduce the gap them and see).
how did you get on with the trim?
@@HomeKitAuthority Sadly I haven't been able to get more blinds due to the 'lockdown' situation (IKEA doesn't have stock of the size I need - too short). But have seen a couple of videos of others attempting this successfully, so should work.
Try this guide. It's very easy. Just make sure you have a decent metal saw (new blade, not an old rusty one). It aluminium and easy to cut through, a sharp blade just makes the cut look that much nicer. ua-cam.com/video/Y3wts5blIJc/v-deo.html
Did u use screws just 2 per clip into ceiling? Nothing into window frame?
Hello thanks for the review and the great content of the Chanel. Quick question?. If you are adding another blind to the same remote and all is connected how do you add that new bling to HomeKit? As it connects in the ikea app but only works one blind in HomeKit!. Thanks in advance.
Great informational video. Do you know if it is possible to lengthen the height of the shades? I have taller windows. Do you know of any other comprable brands that offer longer options?
Good tips Jon! I can't wait to try these out sometime.
Cheers! These things are very stable now!
How do you know when the battery is finished charging?
I bought four of them, works great but how do I clone the other remotes? I program one remote to control all of them… I don’t really want to use all four remotes but at least two would be handy three would be perfect for me something like a three way switch… or you Brits called 4 way switch (if I remember correctly) someone posted on Reddit how to clone them but I tried every single one and didn’t work!
Thanks for your video, made me an idea on how to configure my IKEA blinds, but I have to say that the Zigbee repeater is optional, you only need when you are more than 10 meters from the base station. In my case, those were not necessary.
Zigbee has the advantage to make mesh networks, more Zigbee devices on the same "network", more coverage you will have.
Also, I agree that the IKEA home app is not very good, I have a problem while I was adding one blind and I left the phone for a few seconds to grab my screwdriver to install the battery on the remote, my phone power off the screen (because inactivity), after I took it again, the IKEA app closed itself leaving the blind setup incomplete, the blind was added without group. There is no way to move devices between groups, you need to delete the device and start again.
The braces from my curtain broke off when I tried to mount them (not the brace itself I mean, but that flimsy plastic thing which is supposed to click them in place). And I haven't even apply that much forse... Do you maybe have an idea what can I replace the original braces with?
Is it still possible to utilise a Hubitat hub if you’re also using the IKEA hub?
Is it possible to sync fyrtur blinds with Phillips HUE bridge?
Planning on getting some now, but they need more size configs! Going to have to saw mine if I get them.
I agree with that
I cut mine to fit.. its a very straight forward process.. there are videos on google on how to do it:)
Is it possible to program curtain to scroll between 2 positions? (configure the length)
Hey, So I saw your kitchen blinds went all the way down. I don't seem to find such long ones in the online store. Could you let me know the length of the Ikea blinds you have in 0:54 or Did you make any modification on the blinds?
All the fyrtur and kadrijl blinds are 195 cm or 76 3⁄4″ in length
Do you know as to how easy it would be to swap out the roller and fabric on these things?
I’m all for them personally, however, the missus isn’t all that down with the colour...soooo, yeah...it’s a question worthy of an answer I reckon.
I wondered just how ‘standard’ their roller poles engagement with the mechanism is compared to other roller systems in use with standard blinds?
please make a video showing how to put blinds in different rooms with a different remote. having trouble pairing and blinds showing up on the app in a different room.
Is it possible to connect the blinds with philips hue bridge like another ikea smart products?
Not that I have found
I noticed your patio door blinds are not blackout. Was this a mod? I’m not seeing anything other than black out? Great video!
IKEA do blackout and none black out versions. I think they do both versions in the US now
@@HomeKitAuthority Both versions are available in the US now.
Can you set a timer to when they should open? Because that would be great for waking up in the morning
I think it should be integrated with HomeKit/ Google home with the tradfri gateway. I’m looking into getting these smart blinds over Amazon Chinese ones for privacy reasons. Just not too thrilled about having an additional bridge for every smart product- hue, tradfri, and another for ceiling fans
Hello. So the signal repeaters don’t need to be sync to the blinds?
I don’t use mine in my setup and I have 14 blinds now
Very informative, thank you.
Thank for you watching
So, you don't need an IKEA gateway if you're planning to use these blinds with an Apple Homekit only?
You need the Tradfri hub for HomeKit
saludos soy nuevo donde puedo conseguir las cortinas y mucho éxito
Hello Sir,
Thanks for the tips and the comprehensive testing. You have mentioned that It is not neccessary to have multiple repeaters for multiple blinds. Have you succeded to have multiple independently controlled blinds running with just one repeater ? I have impresion, thet in order to have independently controled blind I have to create a separate "room " for her in the a pp and associate it with separate repeater. At least process of installing new blinds is forcing me to do so. Have you had a similar experience Or have you succeeded to have independently controlled blinds wth separate pilots in the same "room" and via common repeater.
Thanks in advance for sharing. Jakub
I did run all of my blinds off one repeater. But they only support 10 blinds,
If you are installing more than one blind, then just add a blind to a remote rather than installing everything
Whats the max length on then? (When they’re fully down)
6 feet 4 inches
Can I than pair a repeater with a repeater to have longer range ? Or how to do that
No, the repeaters create a mesh and don’t work like that
How do I have to do it
How can I add four blinds to one repeater?
@@user-vq7du3in2x the blinds will be added to the nearest repeater
Automatically?
Hi @HomeKit Authority
Following questions:
- Did you have any issues clicking them in into their braces (installed over head)? I do, though following IKEAs instruction (holding them against the trasparent plastic hook in the front with an 45° angle toward yourself and then tilting them backwards so they should click in into the back hook), on one I can't manage to get them clicked in properly. Any suggestions by an expert who had to do it plenty of times obviously?
- Did with any of your many blinds occur the issue, that the electric drive is not running smoothly/steadily but stopps every once in a while while opening?
Would be so happy if anyone could help me with those issues! Got to say those blinds are way too expensive (particularly in the longest version) to not work perfectly. Thanks!
Solved the first issue. Any thoughts about the second one?
The 2nd issue sounds like something I have experienced this week. My motor eventually packed up and I am waiting for Ikea to reopen to change the faulty one out
HomeKit Authority If it's possible for you to contact them via email or call try to do it that way cause at least for me, they shipped a substitute to the faulty one - which couldn't be clicked in - in exchange for the faulty one. It took 2-3 weeks for Ikea to fulfill using their logistics partner, but eventually it worked without extra costs or needing to go to IKEA myself.
Sadly, also the substitute has the motor problem - not as bad as the one I did not have exchanged.
So at least for me that's a 100% blinds without a properly working motor, which still is disappointing regarding the costs for the blinds.
Good look for your return anyways!
@@a3nalin Stores are reopening soon I think in the UK. Happy to wait as its only one and its stopped in the open position
Can I pair more than one blind to a repeater ?

And how to do that ?
I have a disability that prevents me from doing most things physically. I recently got into the whole smart home thing, and now I'm completely addicted to it and want as many smart home products as i can get, so I'm as independent as possible. My main platform is Apple HomeKit, but i do have a Sonos speaker with the google assistant enabled. So far I've got a Smart lock, Apple TV and some lights. I would love to get a lot more HomeKit enabled products such as Smart blinds, cameras and everything else that might be useful. Could you possibly make a list of useful HomeKit enabled products for me?
It sounds like you have already made a good start. The other things to consider would be smart thermostats and depending on where you are located you have a number of choices
@@HomeKitAuthority I live in Denmark, so i wont be able to get everything, but most things are available. To me, doing everything i can myself is super important, because I'm not usually able to do that. That's also why i love the whole smart home community and everything you can do with just your phone in hand nowadays.
@@VicTheAwper Then you want to check out Tado thermostats
@@HomeKitAuthority Thanks for the help
Anytime and if you need anything else then just shout
can you use these with google home?
Yes if you buy the extra gateway
Great and informative video! I’ve found this channel very useful and we’ve recently installed these blinds to our vacation house. As a Swedish speaker though, I’d be grateful if you could look up the pronunciation for the device. The letter å is pronounced as o like the o in cotton, not like an a, even though they look more alike. Thanks, and keep the great videos coming!
Thank you for watching and the correction.
Hi can I cut to my size please
Plenty of videos on youTube that show this
Wish I could buy these, they are outta stock in the US online store.
That’s quick!
Mine will randomly stop responding. Sometimes while halfway down. Anyone else have this problem?
Nice and comprehensive but you totally skipped the hub setup, which considering your title was a big omission
Not really. I have covered the hub setup in previous videos. This is a tips and tricks video, not a setup video. Although I do mention the hub and what it’s used for
لعق
Only thing you didn’t mention....... take them back for a refund!
Bit late for me now
@@HomeKitAuthority Did you end up wanting to return these? Thinking about purchasing 10-15 of these and cutting them to size. Please let me know.
@@animalapr no still have them
How far can the gateway be places from the blinds? If i have one gateway on second floor, is that going to work with blinds on first and third floors?
I have fairly big house and not had issues with range
