- Late by several days I know but trust me the surprise hidden in this video makes up for it. I'm taking a break from these kinds of videos for a while. Hopefully I can get Engines of SEPTA restarted. A CSX is parked in a siding when an Amtrak comes rumbling into the siding head on toward the CSX.

Why not just walk a few hundred feet to see if the switch was set properly? Their laziness cost people their lives!
Oh yes because you are such an expert on railroad operations and their personnel. You obviously know what you're talking about.....give me a break.
From what was said..why did they even report in the clear if you haven’t double checked it... laziness was at play. I’m an locomotive engineer.
@@thetrainguy1 so am I. I work in strictly dark territory. Do I see laziness here...no. But I do see complacency. When people rely and work so much with signals, they forget some of the important steps when they aren't working. i.e. forgetting to line a switch back but believing you did.
@@SteelCowboy93 Maybe calling them lazy was a bit harsh. It is pretty easy to get complacent. One example they used when I was learning how to drive trucks was a guy driving too fast in the fog. He had gotten so used to driving, he felt he could easily handle the truck at that speed, plus his truck was decorated for going over 1 million miles without an accident, but while driving in this fog, he hit a car that was driving slower than him. Looking at the in-cab footage, he wouldn't 've even had time to react. So, it can happen even to incredibly skilled drivers.
Trainfan1055 if you think lazy is a harsh way to describe co-workers I got some and news for ya.

THANK GOD, a new update, and a beautiful documentary
Runaway Train music from the movie is always a nice touch.
The last time I worked " Dark territory " was on the Windmere Sub, B.C., Canada back 1985. I had the fortune to work the Last empty Coal train going to Fort Steel. Hooped up our orders @ 23:59 @ The Windmere Station. Then lights of the station went " BLACK". After that every station we went by felt like a Ghost Station. Then it became CMBS. Computer Manual Block System. I worked for CPRAIL for 33 yrs as a conductor. We lost the Last main line freight caboose June 1989 and the Last local caboose December of 89.
January 1980 I was promoted to locomotive engineer on a class one railroad. I spent a total of 44 years working on a railroad and looking back now retired things like this reminds me of how God was my copilot. Looking at those engine numbers so familiar and I wonder did I run those units? Did I really do that.? I did pull trains like Amtrak. Ringling Brothers circus. Coal, stack and everything else. Including the Union Pacifics company Special. Up951 two hundred miles just my conductor and I. One and a half million miles I logged. It’s like a dream today. Thanks for the great videos Philip
The fact that Ryan joined up for this was amazing! Loved the video!

Would you like to do a documentary about the wreck and explosion in Viareggio in 2009?
Greetings from italy
@Luchino Bruttomesso Italia?
Today is the Cayce train collision's 6th anniversary. I'm loving memory of Amtrak 47, CSX 130, and 2 people.
I remembered that one. That occurred on the CSX Columbia Subdivision under the US-176 overpass southeast of Columbia South Carolina. It was just south of Mile Post 367 in Dixiana SC. The last crossing the doomed Amtrak crossed was at Dixiana Road. The FRA number on the crossing is 634693B under the I-26 overpass, which is south of Mile Post 366.
Now since the line was in dark signal territory, meaning maintenance was being performed and they were non-functioning. This would mean the Amtrak would have been given a speed restriction by CSX dispatch, but apparently this did not happen. Instead of getting a speed restriction through the blocks, the southbound Amtrak was flying in the blind completely oblivious to what was occurring at the end of the block. The last block signal was near I-26, but from what I was able to gather the signal block was inactive.
The Columbia SC Amtrak station is located at 850 Pulaski in Columbia. The FRA station data is; it is between Mile Post 360 and 361 on the CSX Columbia Subdivision. This parallels the Norfolk Southern Columbia District Columbia to Beaumont Subdivision between their Mile Post 160 and 161. The Norfolk Southern sub turns to the east just past Blossom Street, and the CSX sub turns to the west. The nearest grade crossing is Devine Street, the FRA Data is 634660N. I hope this helps.
Dispatcher gave a "Track Warrant" to proceed at "Track Speed"-superceeding the rule book
Could you do the video on the Santa Fe trains that crashed head on? You mentioned it but there isn't a video about it. Please?
Is this the soundtrack to Runaway Train I hear playing in the background? Subtle but I like it

I recognize the opening as the interlocking at Halethorpe, Md. The train is crossing over from a track that becomes the Old Main Line, to what the B&O called the Washington Branch, and what the CSX now calls the Capital Subdivision.
Me: *looks at thumbnail*
Also me: of course Amtrak was involved
Amtrak is cursed

@@Neumoniknight that's what I'm saying

Yup. Plan to chase it again this time on it's return run once the weather warms up
That was sure scary to go through I still remember the kids crying and the seats all snapped at the base and I guess the brake smoke coming into the cabin and walking pass all the gas coming down which at the time I thought it was rain water but now days I can't walk down stairs good at all and I can't stand train horns going off because that was one of the things I remember before I was thrown to the seat in front of me on my knees at 50+ MPH ugh so every time I hear a horn from a train it brings back memories from that day back on February 3,2018 235 am

We had a train accident in Australia within the last year. The Melbourne to Sydney train had a derailment when it went too fast over a notorious section of track that was in need of repair.
Might I make a suggestion? Have you thought about doing documentaries on things other then train wrecks? Railroad history is so full of amazing stories of real life heroism, myths, legends, and fokelore. To focus solely on railroad disasters cuts out so much material. Be nice to see stories such as the Great Hinckley Fire and the story of engineer James Root, or when a New Haven express train battled a hurricane in the 1930s and made it through with one car left yet the lives of most of the passengers where saved. Or perhaps wrecks that had a more pleasant outcome, such as "The Hero Of Nacozari," Where a locomotive engineer saved a town by piloting a burning train load of dynamite out of the center of the city. You've only but scratched the surface. Just a thought, and one I'm sure will be lost in the sea of commentary regarding some wreck that happened post 1990. But the stuff where you seem to shine the best IMHO is where you bring light on a moment of railroad's history. Especially from the golden age.
Wasn’t 47 the one involved in the 1997 kingsman train derailment that involved a washout?

I remember this from 2018... My mom was a photographer for a documentary company in Lakeland Florida and since she has gotten a 1 week brake, she decided to travel to Washington DC to take pictures of historical landmarks and to do so was to take amtrak 98 to Washington. In February 3rd She was done and had to take the train again back to Winter Haven, she wanted to take 97 because she knows 97 and 98 are the same train and has extra sleepers and diner but 97 hasnt left yet so she had to take 91. On February 4th she waited for 91 at Washington D.C. and boarded the train in the last of daylight hour’s. Me and my Grandma waited on February 5th at Winter Haven for 91 to arrive at 1:35 but we knew that 97 and 91 usually get to the station at around the same time at 2:10 so we waited and no amtraks passed by but for a few Csx trains.
I never heard for mom again until 2 months later on April 23rd at 2:41 when she had gotten back on train 97. I remember that she was walking funny and I was curious why she was walking funny and what took her so long. She talked about the Incident where she was on the 6th coach on 91 when she was sleeping and around the early morning she found herself on the ground and she had broking her leg when she flew off where she was sleeping. She had to wait for other passengers to help her get up and the conductor helped her get out of the train because the ambulance was taking people to the hospital. Before she got on the ambulance she seen the amtrak engine on its side with people on top of the engine. She was taking to the hospital and got out on April 22nd after they helped her leg get better. Now she walks differently like many other people and is still working for the documentary company today.
