    I just made a set of these and drained my oil. So much easier to loosen the drain plug while I can see it. That alone made it worth it. Thanks, Paul! This is fantastic.

    Ingenious! Stumbled across this after hours of trawling through loads of videos. Easy to make and perfect for what I'm looking to do. The main thing I've found is that it does become difficult to do things like change the oil and oil filter as most stands seem to obstruct access (I have a 2009 Triumph Speedmaster).
    Thanks again Paul. I'll crack on with making this.

    Thank you, Paul. I made these stands and I have been using them for a couple of years now. I have a V. Vision, and my friend has the XCT. I also built him the trunk holder. He keeps the hanger in his trailer. We have both benefitted from the access these provide. Thanks for all the great ideas.

    This is probably the best homemade solution I've found so far, after days of looking at DIY solutions online. Of course, you still had to buy a lift, but my understanding is that I can use a regular hydraulic lift floor jack instead of spending the $100 for a lift. All in all, I believe I will be following your example and using it for storage as well, utilizing just the frame, to keep the wheels of the floor.

    I notice on your video that the rear tire looks like a car tire, based on your talent and knowledge you install it for a good reason, I will appreciate if you share the pros and con. I need to replace both tires on my VXT and I have been looking for a durable tires.

      Hello Mauro, having a car tire on the back is called Darksiding. A lot of people hate it and a lot of people love it. I figured the only way for me to know is to try it. So I put one on and I really like the way it handled for my style of riding. They last longer than a regular tire, can handle more weight, much smoother ride and is also a run-flat tire. For me it works but may not be good for others. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

    VERY creative solution to lifting the bike for low cost! QUESTION: I dont have the hydraulic jack...would i still get the same height with the extreme max scissor jack?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  4 роки тому

      That depends on the max height of your scissor jack and how your bike is built. You would probably have to lift the front and put a stand under it then lift the back and put the other stand under it. You could also build your stands a little lower to suit this type of lifting. It can be done but just take more steps.

    I had one immediate concern when thinking of your design. With "rubber" touching the ground while resting on the kick stand there is very little risk of bike falling down (on level ground), but lets say using your blocks... the rubber is touching the blocks, but the wood is touching the ground. There is a lot less friction between the wood and the concrete than the rubber and the concrete. Any instability with the bike using this method?? Other than that being my only concern, I am going to build a set of these for myself... I will probably add rubber strips under the 2x4's to make sure that they really "bite" once weight is on them. Great idea!

    Paul, would you say that this would be a good way to store the bike over the winter? I think that wood would be softer than concrete, so it would avoid flat spots on the tires? Or, maybe for winter storage, throw a piece of underlayment/particle board on the upper surface of each stand, just for additional give? I love all of your videos, but wow, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this one!

    • @PaulPomerleau

    This is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks. By the way, does the lift jack work on all bikes? Mine is 2016 Honda Shadow Aero. I was afraid of bending the pipes and damaging the engine at the bottom of the bike when sliding the jack into the bottom of the bike and jacking it up. Please advise. Thanks.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  4 роки тому

      Can't say for sure if it will work on your bike. It worked on my Triumph Bonneville and my Victory Cross Country. The arms on it are 12" long and 12" wide from outside to outside. The arms themselves are 2-1/2" wide. I modified mine to make them longer (16") for my Victory and changed the bottle to handle the weight of the bigger bike. If you rolled the bike up the car ramps (one under each wheel) and had a wooden box for the kickstand...Do u think that would work? Plus it would be a bit higher up. Rolling a heavy bike up the ramp might be tricky but probably doable. Have u tried it?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  4 роки тому

      You would have to put one car ramp in front of the front tire and the other in front of the rear tire which would not fit as it is higher than the bottom of the bike. So this wouldn't work.

    Can't seem to find your cutlist for what lumber to buy.

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  2 роки тому

      I bought construction grade lumber 2x4, 2x8 and 2x10. I then cut the 2x10 into 2 pieces 18" long, then built the box around it. So the 2x4's are equal to the width of the 2x10, and so is the 2x8 at the end. then the side 2x8's are the same length as the 2x10 plus the thickness of the 2x8 at the end. Just build the box around the platform. It is difficult to give dimensions as construction grade lumber is slightly different everywhere. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    Paul, I have the same bike and getting an enclosed trailer built currently to haul it behind an RV. Where are your recommended strapdown points/angles for the XCT? How far apart were yours on this stationery stand?

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  7 років тому +1

      The manual says to place the straps above the lower triple tree clamp however the speed sensor cable is running beside it on the left side so the S-hook on the straps won't go around the forks safely. So I use some short strap extensions to feed around the forks and then hook the straps to them. The 2x4 hooks are 2 feet out from the side of the stands. This works well in the garage but if I were to use a trailer I would put them as far out as possible without hitting the hard lowers. Maybe 3 feet.

    I Paul, I really like your videos. I'm am pretty new in the "do it yourself" art of jacking up your motorcycle.
    Can you tell me how stable is the motorcycle when it's on the jack only? I mean I would like to replace the tires by myself but I am not sure if I should put on straps or some other stabilizing devices to make sure the bike wont fall down on the side. :)

    • @PaulPomerleau
      @PaulPomerleau  6 років тому

      On my bike I need to put a small block of wood on the left side to make it level. Once that is there it is solid and I have never needed anything else. But that's just me. Go with your gut, If you feel it is not perfectly safe then add more support... strap it down or tie the sides to the wall or something. Soon you will know which way is safest for you and your bike. When my scissor jack is lightly supporting the bike, it still tends to rock left and right, but as I jack it up more it gets much more stable because of the added weight on the jack. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

      It's a Bridgestone Driveguard 195/55RF16 run flat tire. It mounted the same way as a MT. Sorry, MT - Motorcycle Tire, CT - Car Tire. @@PaulPomerleau nice.. Are both tires car tires? Or just the rear one? And how do you choose the right size? I've read that it gives more life

      Only the rear has a car tire. It's called Darksiding and there are websites and Facebook groups with people talking about it. I asked them what size is needed for my bike. There are also charts available. It's true that they last longer but I did it because I get better traction over sand, gravel, painted lines and also it is a run flat tire so I can still get home if I have a nail in it. It just makes me feel better having it on, but many will argue strongly about putting one on saying that it is not safe.

    Hi Paul I notice à car tire on your bike. Can you tell more. Thanks for great idea I will copy

      Putting a car tire on the back wheel is called Darksiding. This is the first time I have done it and I like it, but it is not for everyone and a lot of people will tell you many reasons why you shouldn't have it. For me it rides smoother, lasts longer, costs less, has better traction, and is a run-flat so if I get a nail in it I can still get home. Google "motorcycle darkside" and read all the info. Don't be afraid of it and the only way you will know if you like it is to try it, as I said, it's not for everyone. Thanks for watching.

      I would love to try the car tire. Some say its great. What tire and size are you using?

      Because that had something to do with what he was talking about? Or is it that you don't know anything about why he decided to do it? Because everything I've read so far is there's no real downside and many upsides to using one.
