Most of us Filipinos don't say thank you when something was given to us but a simple smile is a gesture we do to show our gratitude. Thank you Mr. Jonathan for sharing some treats to the locals here in the Philippines. ❤️
I really liked that bad face you made when you ate the Balut ! So funny ! Love how friendly and outgoing you are with the people around you and you always are happy !
😂 that was a genuine response haha.. the taste was actually very similar to an egg, it was just the thought of it haha… when they treat me with that same kindness it’s easy to reciprocate!
When I was a kid living in the Philippines, I used to be able to eat any kind of Balut. When I moved to California, eating Balut became pretty rare and it made me not like older eggs. Just not used to the texture of the feathers and bones anymore but I really enjoy less developed eggs. Some of which are less developed than the ones on this video. Glad you were able to try it. Happy New Year
Adding Lemon/Calamansi to any seafood dish brings out the real flavor of the dish. This mixture in the bottle was most likely vinegar, garlic, and kalamansi. That would give the raw urchin the ceviche or kilawin taste.
The trick in eating balut is, put vinegar, salt and put the whole thing inside the mouth (of course after removing the shells). Do not bite it little by little.
Hi Jonathan! just started following you and your videos are interesting since we love travelling as well. I do highly recommend you go to El Nido and the whole of Palawan next. Surely you'll enjoy there😊
As a Manileño, I could not understand them speaking Bisaya and they sound so pleasant to my Tagalog ears. Bisaya and Hiligaynon are such beautiful languages.
Hi! Been following you for a few months now and enjoying your videos. Thanks! Balut is simply fertilized duck egg embryo. What you get depends on the age of incubation of the egg before it is boiled for consumption. It usually ranges from 14-18 days. The longer the incubation, the more mature the embryo. I’ve only eaten a whole balut twice in my whole life! I usually just like the soup (amniotic fluid) and the yolk. More power to you and your channel!
Happy New Year Jonathan. Congratulations on eating half of the balut & on your 60.9k subscribers. You're very kind to the little girl. Ayo-ayo, amping 💕
I subscibed at 61K. Congratulations finding P.I. as your second home. Wishing you the best of luck. Here’s to many more viewers and positivity in 2023! Cheers 🥂 Johnathan!
I was offered balut once but no way I could do that with a flight back to the states the next day. Didn’t want to chance being sick while on the plane! Props for trying it.
Wow man your brave lol I’ve been here for 2 months now and I still can’t bring myself to trying one. Congrats and I wish you a Happy New Years 🎉 Keep up your awesome videos.
eating balut is not for everyone, so it's perfectly fine if you didn't like it. i learned the way to eat balut is to NOT stare at the duck embryo - and to just eat it all in one go, never small bites that would expose the parts. and i always ask for the 18 days balut (a.k.a. Balut sa puti). nice vid.
I'm heading over there for a recon mission in the later part of 2023 - I think the balut will be a hard pass. Jonathan, you're a braver man then me. I think the locals might take offense if I projectile vomit everywhere. Happy new year to you my friend.
I gotta say it again....I absolutely love your videos! And you're a bigger man than I am because balut is the one thing I couldn't eat when I was there. But, your genuine interactions with the locals is so awsome to watch. It's exactly how I want to travel around the philippines! Thank you for allowing us to travel with you! P.S. The woman in white is so beautiful!! 18:48
Hello, Jonathan. I am glad that you are loving your stay there in the Phils. I am planning to have a vacation sometime before the end of this year. And, I might go visit that place coz a friend of mine lives in that island. I hope to bump into you.
Dude!! I tried it once in college and my friends said to eat in the dark so not to see what is inside, but I only got to eat the yellow one too so Kudos to you!!
Hi Jonathan, we been there a few weeks ago. Alona Panglao, very beautiful place great people, stay safe always. my family loved your videos, its like we are touring with you. we love to visit places like you do, so your vids are so helpful and informative while enjoying watching you happy meeting around people. Amping kanunay.
How wonderful that your videos encouraged that guy to visit PH :) Is he Aussie? Sound like it. I've only had Balut once. Must have been 18-days Balut coz all i remember is the feel of bones and feathers in my mouth and quickly swallowing it. I think i may need to try it again but go for the 16 or 17 days. 🐣
The trick in eating a balut is to close your eyes and imagine your eating soft boiled egg. You have an iron stomach. You ate food that I wouldn’t eat and I’m from the Philippines. Anyway I love that you like sea urchins, that is my favorite food to order in Japanese restaurant. ❤❤❤
Jonathan you have finally taken the Balut challenge I have been telling you this ever since you came to the Philippines, you are now a Filipino at 60% you didn’t finish the whole egg 🤪 any congratulations you are now a naturalized citizen of the Philippines through Balut your sponsor. 🇵🇭 🇵🇭 🇵🇭 🎆
I think she likes Jonathan. At 12:10 she flashes a hand heart. Later in the video at 17:26, Jonathan refers to the extra balut egg and says, " I'm not going to eat this, I'm going to give this away" and then she says to him, I'll save it for myself my love." Truly a start of a beautiful friendship.
May I ask what kind of camera your using to do your videos.. I’m actually going to move to the Philippines in butuan in may .. and me and my fiancé are thinking of doing some vlogs to .. love your videos I’m looking to check out all the places you visited there ..
Jonathan, next time you have balut, you should have a San Miguel beer on the side. I didn’t realize it was also consumed with vinegar. I always only used rock salt with it.
Tried balut once with eyes closed haha I just can't! I like the taste of the sabaw though and the yolk. I like 'penoy' - all yolk and no sisiw inside. I am a Filipino btw. Kudos, Jonathan for at least trying :)
I never tried balut with vinegar. That might taste different because of the vinegar. I used to love balut with true orange. They really go good together.
Hi Jonathan!! I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now! Great content all the time! You’re so handsome! Go get yourself a Pinay!! You’ll have beautiful babies! I’m Filipina and my husband is Irish. Safe travels and keep the vlogs coming!! I’m planning to visit next summer to the Philippines!
Hi Jonathan, I can definitely see why you got grossed out by the Balut. I don't like eggs so I can't imagine having to eat it. I guess they must incubate Duck eggs until the proper time and them boil the eggs to kill the developing Duck. I have heard others say as well that it tastes very similar to eating a regular boiled egg. Jonathan, wishing you a Healthy and Happy 2023.
Balut is a great energy booster if you eat it once or twice a month.. For us there something on that egg that keeps us going.. good job on eating half of that balut sir 👍

Sea urchin is the best. And it more cheaper there than other country. Here in Australia is expensive, so when I come home to Bohol my chance of spoiling myself to a good fresh seafood. Although we can have seafood here too but a lot cheaper back home in Bohol.

Start with a day old egg, it's just yolk, the hard white and the broth which is yummy. Don't forget to salt before eating.
