As an asuka main I like to run in recklessly like an inexperienced rushdown player just to see if I'll surprise them or instantly throw the match. It's like gambling in the sense it usually doesn't work and it's having a net negative on improving but it's so funny when it actually works

@@Ray-wz8sg This TBH I have have some matches where I try to play like properly and thoughtfully and I get my ass stomped. Then like after I lose I will like start the round with a power crush and then just run at them and do a flying kick liked and then kick them again on the ground and it works. Very frustrating when the unga bunga route gives you better results than like learning your combos and pokes. smh

Hey Gekko, it'd be nice if you got more footage that matches what you're saying on screen, just like the blue RC segment it'd be helpful to visualize the example so that we can see the tips in action, even if it's recorded dummies on training mode that'd be great to further help out beginners who don't have much of a grasp on what you're talking about

Another tip: just -lean- block, especially if the opponents pressure is one dimensional. Far too may people from floor 1-8 will get hit by frame traps in the most basic of blockstrings, even without no mix-ups sprinkled in because they're too scared to play defense. In a game where offense is very strong, the guy who can defend well is a menace.

can confirm, started playing in november of last year and i'm now F9--i believe just learning how to actually block well genuinely took me from F2 to F6-F7 (doesn't hurt that when you're a ride or die bedman main you *have* to be a decent blocker because he is comically bad at defense compared to the majority of the cast)

Remap taunt, mash taunt while being comboed, learn framedata of the taunts, aba is the only character that doesn't have a 50/50 on her taunts.
This is "meme" but no there is alot of actually useful info you will gain from taunting. 1 does your opponent tilt easily 2 does your opponent use meter effectively 3 you will learn the weirdest spots people drop comboes 4 your characters framed atm changes with the taunt causing you to possibly dodge some attacks or for example bridget change the direction of your attacks(example when bridget sings she is lower then when you just croutch while her stretch is slightly higher then standing) 5 patience you can cancel out of taunts on frame 2? And sometimes it's better to hold your position then to run into your opponents strike range. 6 HAVE FUN you can 50/50 most taunts with forward and down each character has 4 taunts(there's also meter tech if/when your opponent taunts back) and if you fear "giving meter" then do it when their at 100% meter for the biggest taunt since they gain nothing

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Any suggestions on who to play? Maybd a couple. I am not completely new to fighting games but one of my new years resolutions this year was to get deeper into them as they had always been of an interest but always a bit daunting ive played them since i was a kid and do manage to get to like an awkward just above casual level which really sucked pre online because it made it hard to find people to play against as a kid. So far this year and late last year I made progress in sf6 and T8. I have also been kind of dicking around in the free version of granblue.

    • @EnoEso
      @EnoEso 8 місяців тому +3

@@casbalt7763it kinda depends on preference, but some are better or easier when you're new. Ky and Sol are probably the easiest, and are both powerful. If you're looking for an absolutely basic starting point, mess around with them for a bit
I'd just say to avoid the harder characters, namely Zato, Asuka, Happy Chaos, and Jack-O. They're fun, but you need a good understanding of basic mechanics and their own quirks to make them work. The rest of the cast should be fine to work with for the most part tho, so see who you understand and have fun with

  • @shellularity

to add onto the burst thing--it's also mad useful for wild assault, especially if you play a white WA heavyweight which struggles to start pressure (looking at you, bedman.) white WA can be used for roundstarts (which only loses to jumping and grabs, which are mostly hard reads unless you're the type of potemkin player to try and kara PB at every opportunity,) hard reads / punishments, and just jumpscare pressure offense or continuation (the last one appears to actually be better with orange WA and blue WAs but white WA can still use it for that in certain situations, see bedman corner pressure, particularly ones with a lot of stun and guard crush--can you tell i play bedman)

@@Rukassuwu short answer, get lucky. if you've been to the challenge several times, you already know that the skill gap between celestial players is ridiculously large. your only options is to dodge until you find someone you're confident you can beat or bang your head against the wall until it finally works
other than that, just don't lose hope. it's a dogshit system but you can overcome it with enough grinding

My own personal tip, from someone who's rather mediocre at fighting games:
Learn your weaknesses. Not just your character's, but your own as well. This is especially important if you and your character share the same weakness.
For example, let's say you're a really aggressive Johnny player. You know his setups, pressure, and combos like the back of your hand, and your offense is unrelenting. But, you're pretty vulnerable the moment you're put on the defensive. Johnny has no way of remedying this, since his defensive tools are extremely lacking, so putting more focus onto your defense will go a long way.
Alternatively, if you're still trying to pick a main, add your personal weaknesses as a thing to consider. Are you really good at defense, but just can't capitalize off of your opponent's mistakes? Pick a character that's really good at punishing opponents after surviving a blockstring, like Chipp or HC.

Is there a way to get good without respecting my opponent and/or character choice? I need a way to just deny my opponent from ever playing the game without having to use happy chaos and without needing to block for extended periods of time. Blocking=respecting your opponent, and i don't wanna do that. I just want to shut my opponent down while doing counterhit combos with slayer.

I'm still getting used to the game (ive only been playing off and on for a few weeks) but by being passive I've learned several things about how my friends play characters, ive gotten better at blocking and knowing good times to burst, and ive found out ways to get out of combos... and learned the hard way its not always a good idea to mash out of wall combos, even as chipp 😅
