How lucky you are to have been a gangster at the right time to have Shirley as a moll! I know most performers have to work two jobs when they are starting out
Grew up watching Les’ stuff and presenting Blankety Blank. Never seen this one though. What an absolute joy to watch Shirley being entertained just as much as us.
Im only 21, and I've grown up seeing and listening to many comedians, but I have found the ones that make me laugh the most are old ones like Les. Back when the BBC had stricter rules the true comedians shone through by working around the limitations or finding subtle ways past it (Round the Horne especially!). It's a shame people don't comedy like this anymore ... Thank you for uploading this! =D
I think you've hit the nail on the head there - back then rules were stricter so people had to use innuendo to get round things. The Carry on films were perfect proof of that. Has relaxing the rules made things any funnier? No, I think it's got worse. Is Frankie Boyle funnier than Les Dawson? Sorry, he couldn't lace his boots. I'm Scottish btw.

Women aren't usually offended if a joke is genuinely funny & witty whilst done with a knowing nudge and wink, from my experience. You can be bawdy and even provocative if it's done without malice and the lady is in on the joke. Be clever, playful and joyous and women are as good a sport as a man is. Women are only offended if a bloke is an unfunny vindictive and ladish tw@t.
Having listened to Les many times during his career, many comedy acts should follow his example of being clean cut family viewing for young and old to enjoy. Tears of joy is what Les represented that is why people Loved him.
