    Andy has got to be one of the best self accompanists in the business. He's a really nice guy as well.

    Man this is awesome! One of my favorite Irish musicians singing a song written about a man that was born few miles from my home! Being an Okie myself I can relate to the line 'They called us okies, low down bums'.

    How can even one person "dislike" talent, I wonder... What would we do without music and the people bringing it to us?...

    Got to see him Live in a smaller, intimate venue in NYC a few weeks ago.... one for the record books. Don't miss him if he's playing near you! He is a trad treasure.

    What a treasure. I lived in Austin Texas in the early 90s where I saw Mr. Irvine at the Cactus Cafe on the UT campus. In all of my time in that city, teeming with music, Andy Irvine's show ranks up with the best of the show I saw. Never to be forgotten. The song Roul Wallenberg is incredible.

    First class Andy! First saw him play live back in 85 and ended up at a session with him afterwards. Seeing this, he just gets better with age - like a good bottle of port.

    But it's not really the same in anyone else's hands. :)

  • @Antonysson
    @Antonysson 17 років тому

    Yes, that's a bouzouki. I read that he wanted a deeper sound, and for that the instrument needs a bigger body. The guitar-shape was the most practical.

  • @vonhorn29
    @vonhorn29 16 років тому

    I'm sure he'll come back there. Why don't you email him and find out if there's a tour of Australia/New Zealand in the works.

    Hi! Looking at the size of the box and the scale wouldn't it better be called a mandocello? Whatever we call it do you happen to know the tuning? Thanks.

    Ok I bashed at my guitar and a plausible set seem G, C, D7, Am, D. Capo 1 or 2 depending or none if you're Paul Robeson.

  • @murrmac
    @murrmac 15 років тому +2

    .."what's with that "all you fascists bound to lose" part?" ...
    go study some, learn about Woody Guthrie, and you will understand what's with that part.
    you will also understand why it's totally central to this song.
    hope this helps.

  • @alonzogarbanzo

    If you don't see the relevance of that line to the whole song, your concept of Woody's "vibe" is way off the mark. Woody himself would probably be shaking his head about people's talk of the song's "vibe"---what about its message?

      Guitar-shaped bouzouki according to himself in concert earlier this summer. In these solo shows he currently brings this one, a larger mandocello, and an exquisite Sobell mandola (might be visible behind him here). I think this one is also a Sobell.
