drinks not to have: no cold drinks - affects muscles by not letting them be as agile and free for producing sound and singing. it can hurt your voice too. acidic drinks - soda, coffee, fruit drinks, sports drink, etc. these can cause acid reflux which can cause the vocal chords to swell and be irritated, making singing difficult and possibly painful. milk based drinks - can also cause acid reflux. it creates a coat on your voice and messes with mucous production. caffeinated drinks - dehydrates you. alcoholic drinks - also dehydrated you and is usually cold. a lot of them are carbonated which makes you gassy... which won’t be fun whilst singing (drink responsibly) you can do all of these after you’re done on stage or performing but never before because it may mess you up! hope i saved you time! but also feel free to watch the video for some details i could’ve left out
Thank you for writing this! So many people got so defensive over this so quickly lol. And if i have a concert or am practicing, I just drink water until the concert or practice session is over.
@@LaraditHaut I actually think they stop drinking all the other stuff because if I would be singing on Broadway I would do anything to sound the best I can
@Bloep Bep yes in the case of Broadway singers or show singers I’m sure that when they are working for a musical they eliminate those things for months I’m sure when they’re free they indulge a bit . But they absolutely have to take care of their voice that includes diet (for reflux), sinus es and throat .
That's exactly what my doctor told me. No coffee, alcohol, acidic, or cold drinks. He also told me to avoid hot drinks which you didn't mention. Spicy and saucy food is bad too.

Good video, it's enlightening as you explain why it's bad. Thank you, the cafeinated drinks (coffee and green tea) are hard for me but switching for water is always better!
Welp this explains a lot, I literally have been trying so hard to improve my voice and I legit drink every drink listed on this video, I do drink peppermint honey with a pinch of cinnamon, usually is enough for my voice to “clean up” and be more precise.
Well...I did a cover of the sound of silence, and after I was doen I thought to myself "I want a soda" so I got a cup of ice and dumped my soda in it drank it... and tried singing again after, and couldn't hit the notes anymore..and that's how I got here.. thank you very much for this. it's very helpful. now I know what to watch out for.😊

Question - water and food go down a different “pipe” the pipe that your vocal folds sit in. How then does the temperature of your water affect your vocal cords? :)
You can take tea of less fat milk and drink it hot. Is it good? I usually make a remedy to cure soreness of throat. I put 3 or 4 rose flower into the water with little bit of black pepper after grinding it and boil them for 3 or 4 minutes and than drink. It works best for me.
Interesting to hear about the Gatorade! For me, it works really well, as it hydrates me quicker than water! A doctor told me once, "Clear pee, clear singing" So I always used to have a bottle of room temperature Gatorade, and personally it really helped me! I do agree that it does make you burp a lot!! hahah Btw great channel!! Love your content!!!
Hi FxMx3, Thanks for adding to the conversation. This is a really good point. In my understanding the electrolytes in Gatorade helps you hydrate faster and this is beneficial for your voice as well as the whole body. If you do not experience acid reflux with Gatorade, and you find that it is actually something that benefits your singing, then that's awesome. Different things work for different people and I think the most important point is to be aware of how your body reacts and go from there :)
Since 3 years ago I stop drinking cold water(tempting but I pass this) soda or soft drinks I don't, but 4times a year, caffeine and milk(always)for purpose.
I’m 13, turning 14. And I recently discovered that I can sing, but I haven’t been taking care of my singing voice. Tmr I am doing my musical audition where I sing in front of everyone, and what I’m doing now is drinking green tea with honey. And practicing to sing with my natural voice. 🫶🏽 Edit: so they switched auditions to next Wednesday, and I now discorved that the key to singing is breathing with you’re diaphragm and having voice control. Which is a struggle
Also when you're drunk you lose control of volume. I remember being at a karaoke bar where this woman had a lot to drink, she went up to sing and she nearly blew my eardrum out. (i just didn't tell her that ummmmmmmmm bad idea lol)
I love coffee but now I'm not going to drink it anymore. Instead, I am going to drink chamomile tea. Well, I'm wondering if I have to drink it very hot or just warm. I just started singing and I would like to know ✌️🙃
I saw someone in the comments basically ban all drinks (kinda like the video lol) but seriously there are certain things completely unavoidable. The main things to stray away from are cold drinks because it can tighten the muscles in your throat and vocal cords (you can have your lovely icey pop from time to time, but warm drinks are better), direct dairy drinks which over produce mucus and causes flem that is a weight and slight irritant to your voice, alcohol because it is over acidic and caffeinated drinks. You can have your sports and energy drinks and sodas, acid reflux happens for a variety of different reasons but it is not constant (if it is that is a sign of allergies or a medical problem) so that shouldn't be a reason to cut them out. And finally you don't necessarily have to stop drinking these things all together. Just drink them in moderation and take a drought from them a day or few before a performance, and drink warm and healing liquids. None of this "only luke warm water" nonsense lol

What if you drink coffee first thing in the morning, lots of hours away from when you'll actually be singing?
thanx my voice has become much appertizing when i sing
I can't imagine singing and playing without a drink or two in me. Simply sip water to counter any negative effects

One question
How many litters of water shall we drink each day
What about water and lemon mixture? Is it good or bad for singing? Actually I have acne so I drink it in the morning 🌄. 😅😅
can I never drink cold drinks? or should I just not drink it the day I'm gonna sing?
That's a great teaching 😊, but how do I get rid of the Phlegm in my throat🤔
why is it so helpful?? thank you!
The whiskey with water don’t avoid my voice , help for the high notes 🙄 for me it’s not bad
I have two questions, do we only have to drink warm water? What else can we have?
Whenever I drink lemon tea, I have some difficulty in hitting those high notes. I have it with some tea leaves. Is lemon good because whenever I have it in tea, I have difficulty but if I have lemonade with room temperature water , it helps me. Is lemon good ? Please tell
I was drinking a acid drink watching this
Hi the cool bros 2000, It's great to hear from you. I'm drinking coffee right now :) As long as you don't drink acidic drinks before a performance you should be fine.
Oh OK so I should be fine
