Very good how to video, I have a Citroen c4 1.6l petrol and by the looks of it its same engine as 206. My car is coming up to 60k (miles) and 9 years old do you recommend full replacement? My car has lived very easy life well maintained clean air. Citroen recommend 100,000 or 10 year that its replaced. I would rather be safe than sorry as I like my car a lot. Could a competent beginner be able to do this job or best to pay a professional?
Hi, yes the full replacement including the water pump would be the best. The question if a competent beginner could manage the job is difficult. Have you done other repairs at the car? Do you have all needed tools? I had also once to replace my first timing belt, or my first cylinder head. I had nobody to instruct me and I managed also. Regards, Jürgen
Thanks for the fast response, I have mostly worked on motorcycles but have never done any major engine repairs/replacements but am a confident Person that researches every step in detail. After watching your video and reading through the C4 manual I feel confident in getting to the point of removing the cam belt but then the rest seams risky and easy to mess up. Only tools I think I need are an engine hoist to support whilst removing mounts but according to manual a trolley jack can be used and cam sprocket pins. I wouldn't mind paying a garage to do it but I worry if they will do a proper job ( just say they changed everything but really only belt + pump) for the high price tag. I rather take my time and know the job is 100% perfect for peace of mind. How can you make sure that the new belt goes on in the correct timing? This confuses me as I can only watch but not understand language. Also how would I know if I had right tension on the belt? Sorry for long confusing message just very hard to find full details in English. Kind regards Jay
Also I have come across x2 cam belt kits on eBay. 1) item number 370944299394 CONTINENTAL CONTITECH CAMBELT / TIMING BELT KIT. 2) item number 380701335545 THE TIMING BELT KIT PART NUMBER IS 129PC0210, MANUFACTURED BY EITHER HUTCHINSON OR INA TO ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT QUALITY. These are not original SKF OEM parts from Citroens but seam to be reputable companies stating they are OEM equivalent or better. Would you agree or purchase direct through Citroen? Kind regards jay
Hi Thanks for your videos. I have a squeaking noise coming from my engine but doesn't seem to be coming from auxiliary drive belt. Could it be the water pump tensioner on timing belt? The noise happens when idling too, so could I test by removing auxiliary drive belt, and running engine for a minute to see if noise disappears? Thanks!
Hi, yes, you may remove the auxillary drive belt to find the squeaking noise. You may also remove the covers of the timing belt for the test. It's quite possible that the noise comes from the water pump, an idler or a tensioner. Greetings, Jürgen
Thank you! It isn't the drive belt unfortunately, and it is the time interval to change the timing belt so I will be following your instructions on the video. I don't have an engine bridge - is it acceptable to use an axle stand / jack to hold the engine instead?
Leandro Lambardi Hi, okay I see. It seems somebody used some liquid gasketing. In the video on the Ford Ka you see such a situation. Finally you have to use a pry bar. Greetings Jürgen

Hi, I have a Picasso with the same engine and I do not know when is the time to change the timing belt and/or auxiliary belt. In your case how old was the engine? (how many kilometers) Regards,G.
Hello, I've seen that you're around the Karlsruhe area, I have a Citroen Xsara Picasso 1,6HDi, can you do this for my car and how much will cost, ungefer ? Many thanks.
I didnt remove all those splash guards ... just the wheel and study stands. I supported engine with a scissors jack with cushioning. Once the end mounting is removed, there's plenty of room to manoeuvre. My main problem was the water pump seized in block. Brute, destructive force (pump only) using mallet and cold chisel, breaking off splines in the attack, proved successful. 😁 .

Good video. Thanks for your help
Very good video. I would like to know what is the diameter of the crank loocking tool. Thanks. Regard from Mexico.

hi friend What pins size do you use to lock the camshaft? 10mm or 3/8? and what about the size to lock the flywheel? 6 maybe? Thank you friend
roberto rodriguez Hi, the bolts at the camshaft have 8 mm, the tool for the flywheel around 4 mm. Regards, Jürgen
Thanks for video

Kind regards
Jay
Kind regards
jay
Hi Jay, I never buy the original kits. They are expensive and inside you find also a belt of Conti or Gates. Regards, Jürgen
Hi
Thanks for your videos.
Hi, better to use a wooden beam on trestles. Greetings, Jürgen
Hi my water pump is really stuck in there I can´t remove it what would you recommend? Thank you very much for sharing.
+Leandro Lambardi Hi, what is stuck, the bolts of the pump or the impeller? Greetings, Jürgen
+irina25661 I removed the two bolts but the impeller won't come out, I applied wd40 yesterday. Today I will try again
Leandro Lambardi Hi, okay I see. It seems somebody used some liquid gasketing. In the video on the Ford Ka you see such a situation. Finally you have to use a pry bar. Greetings Jürgen
irina25661
I did thatand worked just fine, thanks for the advice. I just removed it. Greetings Leandro
+Ricardo Olivieri I am very sorry, but I don't speak Spanish. Maybe you understand some English, the video has English subtitles. Greetings, Jürgen

Hi, I sorry that I have no spanish subtitles. But English subtitles are added to all video, just enable them in your settings. Greetings, Jürgen
Hi, I have a Picasso with the same engine and I do not know when is the time to change the timing belt and/or auxiliary belt. In your case how old was the engine? (how many kilometers) Regards,G.
Hi, the belt should be replaced every 80000 km or 6 years, whatever comes first.
.
