- Sorry guys for not posting for a while, been a bit busy. I wanted to do this exhaust mod for a while, i didnt want to really spend $800-$1,000 for a new exhaust, cuz not everyone can afford it, and this channel is not just about installing bling parts left and right like some channels, its also about saving money and doing things cheaper and still awesome, so here comes this $55 exhaust mod. The pipe i got for free because the place had a bunch and were recycling them anyways, and the clamps i got on amazon for $20 for both, and the exhaust cut tool i got for $35, I bet some of you might be able to find these clamps on ebay cheaper and maybe even cut the exhaust with a grinder or a saw of you have that and it will be even cheaper for you if you can find a piece of pipe somewhere lol... I didnt want to weld it in, because i didnt want to make it permanent and also not everyone has a welder handy. This was just to show that anyone can do this with the basic tools, i hope you guys enjoyed. Ill try and get some more sound clips after install the exhaust tip on the next video

$120 for a magnaflow muffler you can install yourself with just as much effort or less or $300 for a shop and it would have alot more growl. just my preferred "cheap" upgrade

Instead of using the foil tape I had some exhaust sealant putty left over from a customer's exhaust I installed. Spread it over the 3 mesh cutouts on the tailpipe couple thin layers let it dry for an hour, did the flapper valve mod took 3 min and started the truck. Cheap easy mod

I spent $1200 on my gibson performance exhaust and it has made my truck so much faster due to the unique 4 inch tubing. Worth every penny in my books.

I deleted the muffler and kept the flapper/DFM on my dual exhaust 2020 RST. Best $60 I ever spent! Nice work.

When you went to tighten the last bolt with the ratchet the back of the bolt spun too... make sure theyre all tight 👍

You are referring to active fuel management (AFM) or displacement on demand (DOD), probably a typo. 🤙
No muffler or free flow mufflers always sound good revving but the true test is at highway cruise speed. Its going to either sound good or drone so bad you cant hear your radio. If it drones you can make a j-pipe to help reduce it.

Sounds a lot better but I went with Borla ATAK cat back duel out the back with black tips on my black 2017 Chevy Z71 crew cab . You spent over 40 thousand dollars on a truck why nickel and dime it now . Spent 1100. Hundred on the exhaust another 200 to have it installed, sounds great no regrets here.
Well many can’t afford that much and I spent $26,000 on this truck because it was a project build, so I had to do this to get the sound he cheapest way possible haha
I did the same and got the Borla ATAK. Borla sounds way better than this muffler delete. But the Borla cost of $1,000 vs $55 muffler delete is understandable. I love my Borla ATAK rumble.

I'm running a Carven cat back exhaust on mine. Very simple all bolt on install and the price is not bad runs you a little over 500.
Yea there are some good priced exhausts out there but I basically wanted to see what I can get for free lol
You have a flapper valve on the exhaust that is making it sound like a hissing rather than rumble. A lot of guys cut it off I just clamped mine open. It’s the little spring looking thing before the muffler or at least where the muffler used to be. It will sound a heck of a lot better trust me.

I would of deleted the flapper valve also. It's only there to stop drone when it's in v4 mode with the stock system.

Sounds alright. It might have been nice to have the ends swaged so they slip over the existing pipe, then clamp; it would be a bit stronger and you won't have drips.
Ya I know the goal was to do this in the driveway DIY as cheap as possible as an experiment
@@FixItNick 2 connector pipes is the easiest way and much less prone to leak. Slip them over the existing pipes and the new pipe slides into them.

Since deleting your muffler have you had any performance issues? I have seen and herd a lot of people day that the check engine comes on because the oxygen ratio is changed when you take the muffler completely off. Still awesome video. Can't wait do do this mod myself!

That method of removing the muffler is convenient for if you wanted to put it back. Just clamp it back on same way. 😂

That valve in the exhaust is so when the stupid afm turns that thing into a 4 cylinder it doesn’t sound like a civic lol delete afm and that valve!

@@McMrs that valve is supposed to help hold heat and the exhaust in the muffler for longer to help it burn off. Your truck will still drop down to 4 cylinder. I deleted muffler and resonator and tack welded the valve in the open position. Truck sounds mint even if 4 cylinder it still growls just not as loud
The chain pipe cutter is made for full round cutting.

How does it sound on the road any drone? I've heard that adaptive/flapper valve is a huge restriction. It is there so the truck doesn't sound goofy when it goes into 4cyl mode. I want to remove mine, but I'm first going to get the range master to stop 4cyl activation.
I agree flapper is stupid, I get no drone a all, and since m truck never goes into V4 because I have 35s I should have just cut the valve, I might still get that done hmmm
Just unbolt it before and hang it to the side. If you dont like it, put it back. the benefit of it all. My 05 silverado, i unbolted right after the cats on the Y pipe. That was loud as fuck and annoying

I think he his talking about the "Range" brand ob2 plug in that disables Active Fuel Management. I love mine. I bought an 8 cylinder truck, to have an 8 cylinder truck. I have 35's as well it still tried to shut off 4 cylinders every once in a while.

Nick, just a piece of friendly advice, saw you had safety glasses on using the cutting wheel but not the cutting chain nor even working under the truck to remove and reinstall the muffler and straight pipe. Those cutting chains do put out tiny shards of metal as they cut. Also dirt rust etc can fall on you off the under body as you are shaking things around. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

No not really I tried to get the pipe cuts as straight as possible and clamped best I could, I’m sure it leaks tiny bit here and there but it’s good
That scrap pipe looks like 410 stainless, which is harder to cut.

also the stock pipe is stainless, GM only uses stainless on there truck exhausts.

For people with drone questions. I have a 18 5.3 Z71 GMC, I deleted the resonator, basically cut off the exhaust after the muffler, right after the hanger. (I hate tail pipes, think they are ugly), looks much cleaner now. I also fixed the flapper so its stuck open. You will get Drone from this mod so you hafta get V4 mode turned off via tuner or put truck in 5th gear with selector. I used a diablo programmer to turn off V4. The truck sounds awesome the way it is now. ATM the truck is at the speed shop having a whipple installed, the owner/mechanic is predicting 500hp at the wheel!
You have bigger tires or anything? Mine hardly goes into v4 I was thinking to lick valve in open or remove it if easy to hear the difference, then try disconnecting rear pipe section to hear without resonator

Yea it lined up perfectly because the front pipe is mounted in a flexible stock section piece

@@FixItNick I dont know much about cars but I think engines have their exhaust gas output travel at a certain speed with the muffler in place. The oxygnen sensor reads the gas at the pace its exiting the car. Having a muffler delete makes the exhaust gas travel out faster than stock because there is no muffler to restrict the airflow so I wonder if the sensor would pick up on it.. im looking forward to having a muffler delete but just trying to learn as much before I do.
Yolo Skater no this will not throw a code, sensor on the cat by the headers only reads CO2 levels
That’s towards the front of the truck. This is towards the back. No 02 sensors. The sensors are really only there to make sure you have the correct amount of exhaust coming out of the Motor to match the fuel being burned. If it’s not that’s when it throws a code.

It sound deeper, you'l get closer to the sound of a muscle V8, when accelerating. No drone or nothing when in cruising speed.

You can get whole cat back systems for less than 400 if ya look mbrp makes one but if you do that and don’t delete active fuel management when it kicks to a 4 cylinder it sounds like crap. I have a 17 crew cab with the 5.3 and did the mbrp cat back and afm delete. That is if ya don’t mind voiding any sort of warranty lol

@@FixItNick The way you installed that pipe is going to be a massive leak. You can't just butt the pipes together and clamp it down. You need actual connections. Larger diameter pipe to slip over each end that then gets clamped. Or weld the delete pipe on. Butting the two ends together is not the way to do this and honestly the first time I have ever seen anyone do it. Thought it was common sense that that is completely incorrect, but I guess not haha
@@DaSt0nEy I was thinking the same. Like u said 2 3/4 go up to 2 7/8 or use 2 3/4 but have the ends stretched like they do in real shops. 2 exhaust clamps and done. No leaks tight fit
@@Lethereat19 Yup, exactly. I have never actually seen anyone install a pipe butted up to another without a sleeve and think it was proper and fine until now. That thing is going to leak like hell and probably get worse over time as the pipes rub against one another and erode away since they're not actually clamped down. Terrible way to show people how to install a delete pipe but hey, not my channel haha. Get him views then more power to him! Just won't ever let him near my vehicle lol

Hahaha as someone who's worked as a diesel mechanic, carpenter, and a nurse I've had my fair share of OSHA in-services. And I'm always the smart ass that brings up the moments safety glasses are worthless 😂. Wearing safety glasses , I got 2 part epoxy in my eye and metal splinter. I have more safety gear in my garage that collects dust. Everytime without fail I say ok self .. let's be safe today while using the table saw and wear my $30 safety goggles with foam cushion. And sure enough in 20 seconds they're so fogged up it's way more dangerous to continue wearing them than go without eye protection lol. I've tried all the no fog hacks and they still fog. So I'm a safety squinter 😂 or face shield guy now. Even face shields fog up . OSHA can suck my sweaty balls . They're a corrupt pos gvt agency that absolutely failed the American workforce over the last 3 years. Millions injured on the job due to illegal mandates and OSHA was helping to facilitate the damage.

If you delete the 2 resonators will you lose warranty on the engine or is that only warranty on exhaust ?
Same as aftermarket exhaust, but I wouldn’t know it does t have a warranty lol

Didn’t have to disable anything and no drone really, I was happy with the results
