    I had a properly wired RENOGY 3000 WATT inverter that refused to run my 1800 W microwave for more than two minutes.
    Took weeks to solve and the answer ended up being a circuit breaker that did not process the load properly - it didn’t trip - it just reduced the voltage and triggered a low voltage shutoff within the inverter. A much higher quality fuse solved the issue.
    SAFETY ISSUE!!!!!
    I do not have expert electrical knowledge - my solution came with help from some very experienced friends. So please - get expert advice before altering electrical circuits!!!! It’s dangerous!!!

    What a life saver!
    We had finished our van wiring and had been using the Renogy 3000W with a 1.8kW hot air gun for the shrink sleeving all along. Next day put on the 1.8kW oven for it's first run and the Invertor tripped after 10 seconds... thought it was the oven but did the same with the air gun. It was just as though the invertor had turned off for a moment. Emailed Renogy for advice and they replied in Kanji or Chinese. Then I found your video and it all made sense. The 300A resettable fuse felt warm, it had a voltage drop across it of nearly 2V. We replaced it with a real fuse and everything is OK.
    Thank you for taking the time to share this information my man, it has saved us unknown trouble. plus I will sleep much better tonight.
    Cheers man.

    I'm only in the concept stage of a high draw 12v system. I will definitely be looking out for this issue, even considering a 24 or 48v system.

      If you are powering a circuit with a GFI you must disable the circuit GFI or the one plugged into the Renogy motherboard- won’t work with 2 in the same circuit. This was a subsequent problem I had after plugging the inverter directly into the 30 amp service on my trailer.

      Note this also happens when the appliance is on a GFI Circuit. I had to unplug the GFI sensor on the Renogy control board a year later when I starting powering the whole trailer by connecting the inverter to the 30 amp input to the main board. When I posted this video the appliances were connected directly to the inverter. Fair warning - I am no where near being an electrician!

    I had the same problem, in my towable, plugged into shore power. I could only run my micro 1 minute at a time. ⏱️Went to Harbor Freight, bought a heavy duty construction multi-plug, with safety shut off, and no more problems. Hope this video helps someone else out there too! ⚡🔌

    Hi Rob,
    Oh my goodness, I hope this applies to me. I was on the phone with Renogy a number of times and they had no solution for me. They blamed it on my battery pack, they blamed it on anything they could think o,f but NO ONE suggested a low quality fuse.
    Renogy seems to get good reviews but there are a number of UA-cam Videos out there showing the same problem!
    I ended up telling Renogy I was going to ship my inverter back and they said "just keep it" and refunded my money... thus I still have the inverter:). I am going to give your wisdom and experience a try!
    WHY did then not think of this?

    I have been experiencing the same issue. Not a Renogy Inverter, but SunForce 2500 watts. My Renogy shunt battery monitor shows all is well, until I turn on the microwave. It is a High Point unit, rated at 900 watts/7.5 amps output and 1350watts/11.25 amps input. I have 600 amp hours of battery fully charged. On goes the microwave, 45 seconds later the 250 amp breaker trips. And the shunt is showing a massive 136 amps draw. Wires are correct. Even the toaster is showing 76 amps of draw. It is a 10 amp toaster. Now, I haven't tried your suggested solution yet, but I am certainly going to try a different breaker than the one I have installed. Fingers, toes and eyes all crossed. Wish me luck. I will report back if all goes well. Cheers!

      Also if your inverter has built in ground fault protection and you are in line with a gfi circuit you could have similar problems. I had to disable the ground fault protection in the inverter which is risky business if you do not go through a GFI protected line.

    • @trevorgeddis9044
      @trevorgeddis9044 3 місяці тому +1

      @@Dottietravels Yeah, it does have GFI built in, but the microwave is pugged in to a duplex wired from the circuit panel, no GFI. The bathroom pug has that, but not the microwave. Thanks for the tip. Also, forgot to add, I tried the microwave plugged directly into one of the plugs on the inverter, same problem. I have ordered the Go Power FBL-300 amp slow blow as of today. That is the size their web site recommends for a 2500 watt inverter. Hoping that will solve the issue. Cheers!

    These Chinese breakers are shit, I still use a few for lower loads as a simple disconnect switch but would not rely on them. In my experience they are all the same and can't handle 80a at 12v for extended time or repeated on/off cycles. Ended up getting a Bussman 187200F-03-1 and it holds a steady a 180a forever from my testing, it cost 3-4x so not even that much more, definitely worth using a decent breaker or good old fuse + isolator switch, for anything that needs over a few hundred watts.

      Had another mystery problem after I began hooking up the whole trailer to the inverter. There’s a gfi circuit inside the inverter and it does not like being hooked to a system with its own gfi - it would routinely shut off with a ground fault. I was able to disable the ground fault detector by unplugging it from the processing board inside the inverter. Probably not recommended but it’s work for me for 6 months so far.

    Sounds like you need to wire in a Voltage display in the input side of your inverter.... I'm gonna ditch the chinease breaker and just put large ass Anderson disconnects by the battery

    Questions for you?
    1. Did you send back your 3,000-watt inverter for a refund?
    2. What fuse did you have originally and what fuse did you replace it with that worked? (brand and size please)
    3. Did you try your microwave with the 2,000-watt inverter after the fuse change?
    Thanks in advance. :)

    • @Dottietravels
      @Dottietravels  Рік тому +1

      I did not return my inverter. I believe both fuse sizes were 200 amp - the one that didn’t work was a OUHL 200 Amp Circuit Breaker Manual Reset and the new fuse was a Go Power! 200 Amp Fuse is used as a replacement for the FBL-200. This is specifically made for use with inverters.

    • @johnnuske2878

      Next day. Took breaker out of circuit and same result. Likely be a power factor problem. The 1500W inverter has no trouble running a nuWave Flex induction cooktop at 900W and 1500W settings so not likely an inverter issue. The Victron battery monitor says same as rated induction cooktop setting being drawn from battery; BUT! says 1100W rated input power of LG microwave is drawing over 1700W till inverter shuts down. I'll investigate this further and suspect poor design.

    • @johnnuske2878
      @johnnuske2878 4 місяці тому

      Update. LG Neochef 23L Microwave works well with 240VAC Powertech 1500W inverter. Turns out be careful of wire run lengths even on the mains side. Runs pretty good efficiency at 800W setting. The inverter based microwave oven can help with your power budget. Your post though was good to show how to fault diagnose systems.
