It was actually pretty wise to get pork roll when they did. With one of the other two dogs nearing the end of life getting a third (and integrating them into the family beforehand) meant the surviving one had a companion still and help ease some of the distress of losing their other friend.

I don’t agree. I think it’s rather selfish to write off your old dog. A new dog is going to take time and patience, all which should be allocated to your aging best friend. No, you don’t go looking for your replacement dog when the one you have gets old.That’s callousness.

Wow, really? We weren’t “writing off” Athena. She LOVES being around as many dogs as possible so Pork Roll gave her an extra boost. She took him in like a little baby & she loves being a mama dog. She wanted the best for her little brother Dime and knew that he needed a companion for once she crossed over the rainbow bridge.
Poor baby, no one deserves to be abandoned for such a foolish reason. If anything, if an animal is obese then it says a lto about their previous owner. Glad this darling found an amazing home. Thank you for saving him.
@Marlon Brando Meat-Sweats You can't assume all pitbulls do the same bad thing just because you saw some do it. Even if that were the case, the family should have surrendered the dog to a shelter instead of leaving a domesticated animal to fend for itself.

My condolences for your loss, it's always hard when your pet, that you've had for a long time, passes to the other side. It's great that Pork Roll came along when he did as he was able to console your other dog. I think he's been here before and it makes me laugh the way Pittie's vocalise, as you say they sound like a human being. He's looking good for the weight loss, it's staggering how many people overfeed their pets, they think they're being kind. I wish you all the best for the future with Pork Roll and your other dog, sorry can't remember her/his name. Love and blessings for a happy future.x
A note for anyone who has a dog who is obsessed with one toy. Buy several while they are still available.
My dog loves getting new toys but she has her favorites and I have had to buy several of them. So now I always make sure to buy a pair when I go out. She’s so thankful when she gets her gifts!
So now she has two baskets full of toys that she has to knock over after every time I clean them up! She’s like “No mom, I want them all over the floor for easy access!!
We added a dog to our family when I was 9. I went right out and bought her a squeaky toy. I'm in my 70's, and I've still got it. It's yellow with age, but otherwise in perfect condition. Oh, and it still squeaks.

The stigma attached to the pittie breed is ignorance on the part of uninformed people. This breed is one of the most loyal, loving, kind animals you could ever possibly have. It is exactly like bringing up a child, they learn what they are taught by owners. I will never understand the mentality of people who do this to an animal. They love their humans and will go to the ends of the earth to please you. You give that handsome big boy lots of extra love for me and your other furry baby also. God bless and stay safe.😘💞🐶
@@LH23511 You're just proving their point. That dog was off leash, untrained, without people teaching it how to behave. Many dogs on the street will behave that way.
Pitties have gotten inbred for aggression at this point due to bad practices on raising them, and for the unique way in which they attack. It's actually estimated that there are MORE dog bites from labradors than there are from pitbulls in family situations, but the labradors *let go*. Pitbulls instincts mean they grab on and hold, which can cause a lot more damage, and leads to the bites being more serious and thus more reported.
We had a Rottweiler who snapped at my face and grazed me with his teeth and it was never reported, because I just got a scratch. It all depends on training, training, training. Socializing to be around people and other dogs.
No breed is completely non-aggressive, some are just more dangerous than others when they act on that aggression.
The dog you ran into had probably been trained for dog fighting and either escaped or was dumped for not doing well enough. It isn't the breed. It's ALL in the owners.
I've seen dogs who are apparently aggressive turn around and be the sweetest things once they're actually taught and socialized properly. If a dog turns out super aggressive despite training/socializing, it's a brain defect, not a breed trait.
Edit to say: I am very sorry that you and your dog were attacked like that, and I understand the fear that comes with seeing that particular breed... but you can't demonize all of them. I have a fear of Rottweilers now and get very uncomfortable around them, but I don't blame the breed.

If someone walks on the other side of the street to avoid your dog I think 2 things
1) You are very protected
2) They are not dog people and it is a good thing they moved to the other side of the street.
I had a very big (110 lb) beautiful beast that caused people to do the same thing. I never felt unsafe when he was around.
Yes!! Most people cross the street when I walk my pit mix. Cracks me up, but I feel safe. I have no doubt if anyone ever tried to harm me or him, he would defend.

Oh that's so sad to hear. He must miss the family so much. You can never go back to visit your pet nooooo matter why kind of pet it is. You will only screw up his little head so much some animals died because they staved themselves. I hope he's happy with his new family. You are good people for not sending him to a shelter.

For me it was horses, it could have been any animal but for some reason horses resonated with me this year. I discharged from the navy with mental issues and feeling quite depressed, bought a horse and even though she was wild and unbroken being with her made me feel so calm, happy and in the moment. Since then I've bought 2 more, this time rideable, and without them I don't know where I'd be. I drive 3 hour round trips to see them several times a week. Keep in mind I've never had horses before this year or rode them, but I literally blossomed this year. I think I need to pursue a future career with animals for sure.

They take neglected horses and work with people with learning disabilities who have high anxiety, and they use them to mirror each other’s body language and fall into a state of relaxation. It’s amazing to watch.
For me it's not just my dog but my cats as well. My dog cuddles right into me and we feel so bonded. My cats will lay on my lap or curl up with me in bed and the minute they start to purr it's pure relaxation and comfort and nothing in the world is a better or more beautiful feeling. Could not live without my beautiful babies.

Did you know that pit bulldogs and most other fight dogs where actually meant to take care of children and had the purpose to be a family dog the only reason they are used for fighting is because of how good they obay and how ther scull is built its sad that such things lead to the outcome that they became [ dangerous] to most people

Thank you for reaching these poor, misunderstood and abused dogs. His and the other dogs' poor cropped ears broke my heart. Knowing him as you do, Pork Roll was probably too sweet to fight which is what they do with dogs in the UK when they've cropped their ears, and they made him fat to look more intimidating. Cropping ears is illegal in the UK. Is it illegal in the US? The pain for them must be unbearable. Thank you again.💞
As Pitbulls are banned in the UK Dog fighting isn't a practice here. It is illegal to Doc Dogs ears. I've never seen that in the UK.
I could not imagine having a dog for two years and then just giving them up, because it’s too much work! If anything, you bond with them MORE after time, not less?!

If you want a purebred, just go to a breed specific rescue! There is no reason to buy from a breeder
Puppies or kittens either (I like both) but yes I would much prefer an adult who's already has a personality molded. Then it's relatively easy to see if such animal is right for the potential owner.

You cannot fathom the (lack of) intelligence of some people. His owners thought he had health issues so wanted to get rid of him but the worst part is that they inflicted that on him by not feeding him/exercising him properly. So pleased he found a new home and managed to lose that weight.
