Though brickfilming activity was increasing in the 1990s, there do not seem to be brickfilms from the decade with the same wide recognition as the most well known ones from the previous decades. With this video, in addition to covering the general history of LEGO filmmaking in the decade, I aim to shed light on the best 1990s brickfilms in the hope that they will receive more attention.

Thanks for including a tiny snippet of my work here! Finally watched this and found it all really fascinating. I really liked how you kept emphasizing that most brickfilms made in this era would have been low frame rate experiments by kids. That definitely describes my work during the decade. I need to comb my parent's basement for a VHS tape with my earliest works on it...
Thank you! I'm glad that emphasis came across, because I was concerned that focusing mostly on the best stuff could give a bit of an inaccurate impression. I do hope you can eventually find the earliest work you have!
My friend and I watched that Corporal Dan video a good 15 times a day back in 2000-2002iish and years later around 2012 we really wanted to see it again since we'd both quote it, but it was an inside joke for us since nobody else we ever talked to knew what the hell it was and assumed we made it up. Nether could remember where he found the video, had no idea who made it, when it was made and couldn't really find info on it since over time I thought it was "chopper dan" since he was in a helicopter. Thank you for giving me the means to recover a part of my childhood.
WOW I can't believe my eyes! You used a fragment from Crossroad.. And yes Twelve Bucks is definitely a flick that inspired to this extend!
I loved every second of your docu, but after seeing you mention twelve bucks and crossroad my heart rate went up!
Thank you for making these documentaries.
Titan Pictures hi!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!
15:60 something from titan pictures
dunno if anyone cares but if you guys are bored like me atm then you can stream all of the latest movies and series on Instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my brother for the last couple of months =)
@Malachi Nova Yup, I have been watching on instaflixxer for months myself :D
This was a great idea for a video. Never seen any of this before
This series is brilliant
I love the movies like "The Parasite" with all those big sets and all made of LEGO! Even The Magic Portal is awesome.
But i also love the pirate commercials, so damn good! A true inspiration!
The other 90's VHS camcorder animations remind me of my first lego brickfilms, made with Movie Maker in the 2000's, where i would shoot a picture and shrink the length of the frame the shortes possible, so that they would move 1 FPS ahaha
Every nostalgic brickfilm from the 2000's that I remember. All of Forrestfire101, SW the Elevator, Pirates Rule, Random Lego Movie, Funny Lego Star Wars Video, Mickey Doonalds, The White Stripes - Fell in Love with a Girl, Pirates! (the 4 part movie), Indiana Jones and the Chamber of Secrets (My favorite), Paranormal Snacktivity and THE DISNEY LEGO BUMPER. If you remember any or all, please recommend me some of your favorites
You forgot michaelhikox....
@@colwarsstudiobrickfilmandm8580 forgive me :c
How could I forget Michael?
@@mrcarbonmr3065 its fine
First Lego film I ever watched was The LEGO Clan, Lego Castle War and the Lego music video for Snow by red hot chili peppers in 2006 on UA-cam. Good times
One I would recommend that was a favorite of mine growing up was Random Acts of Legoness
Thank you so much for all of the research & hard work that you've put into this series. And also to help preserve our rich brickfilming history. It's important to look back, learn & to see how much/far we've achieved with brickfilming as a whole. I really do hope that this will teach & inspire future community members.
1:31 "these films are nicely animated and LIT!!!"
Mr. Charlie is like Mr. Bill
Great video, I really enjoy these! Can’t wait for parts 3-47
The list of links to watch the full films was too long to fit in the UA-cam description. You can find it here:

Cool dr. sillypenta! Where do you find all the videos!
Great Stuff!! Thanks for all the research!! Looking forward to the next parts!
Incredible job! I can't even imagine the whole research and time spent on this. Thank you so much and I really want part 3. Keep up good work
Oh my boy Sean. This is awesome. Such a great interesting and informative video! Keep it up bud!
15:53 TITAN PICTURES! YES!
Yay! I can't wait for part 3
I was watching Benny and Lee episodes and got the notification about this video.
I love this series so far. Keep it up!
Only recently did I learn that Captainbulldog's channel had been terminated, made me evermore grateful to still have you active after all these years. Your efforts here will not go unappreciated.
14:21
Dear god it's all connected
Thank you very much! I actually saved all of Captain Bulldog's uploads and have them available here: brickfilms.wikia.com/wiki/Jason_Boyle
Great video! Very well researched and presented! I can only dream of having my own work be talked about among brickfilmers in thirty years time :D
Finally it came out
Super cool
THIS VIDEO WAS COOL COMPARING TO ALL OF THE LEGO ANIMATIONS!!!
I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS VIDEO!!!
Love the Apocalypse Now soundtrack reference!
I am amazed you even have a screencap of True Peril 19:58. I remember when one of the animators joined the Brickfilms forums showing Peril In the Dark Ages and Peril in Space. I loved them! both were ludicrous. They were on Google Video at the time, which is now no more. I was a fool not to download them.
Thanks for sharing the story. I didn't expect anyone watching this to be familiar with that, and I'm not sure I even remember how I came across it. Maybe one day I can track down one of the creators and see if they still have the films
One of them claimed the other films they made before Dark Ages were poor but I would still love to see them. Dark Ages and Space are both pretty nuts. There is a part in Peril in Space where an alien race needs to prove their worth in the format of a quiz show run by the insane human space commander. They fail by showing off that they have transparent sewage pipes on their planet.
It sounds like they were substantial films for the time. I would have assumed they were just shorts/tests. I will definitely try to track them down
Please do! They were beefy films. I think both of those were around 15 - 20 minutes. I would try track them myself but I haven't got any brickfilms to my name.
Great video, loved learning more about one of our favorite hobbies, and seeing so many new (old), and interesting brickfilms. Brickfilms really were better in the 80s, 90s, and early-200s. Remember when we told you about Star Trek: The LEGO Generation and you hadn't heard about it. Glad we could help, that video totally deserves more credit.
This series is fantastic, thank you for doing your research!
Awesome! :) I liked commented and subscribed!
Showing stop motion history through lego, very clever.
Previous part had Tubeway Army song, this has a Doom soundtrack... I respect all your references!
Thanks; I do particularly enjoy picking out the music tracks. The next part will have some good ones
I've only just got round to watching these, it's brilliant that you're doing this. :) You are probably the most knowledgeable person on brickfilming history, on this planet!
Probably? ;)
I really hope for the next video you’d mention both the Monty Python and Han Solo Affair Videos, a lot of people including myself grew up with those videos
They mightn't quite be in the next video, as I will be deviating to one specific topic, but they absolutely will be in the one after, if not the next one
thanks for sharing history. very useful
Creator of the sonichu??? min 14:18_?????
Yes
I'm just gonna go ahead and say it... But Brickfilms were (And still are...) the BEST type of animation that I have ever experienced in my opinion 🤩😉👍
Twelve Bucks is probably my favorite brickfilm
13:23 did not expect Soul Coughing's Super Bon Bon to make an appearance lol
Twelve Bucks is an all-time classic for sure

Thank you so much for making these histroy of brickfilms documentaries. I remember watching StarLego when I was a kid in the early days of youtube but I could never remember its name or how to find it again. Brickfilms and stop motion is actually what got me into film making I made a few of my own back then and I'm a video editor today. Hopefully I'll get to go back to my roots and making another one.
(Warning, Extreme Harmony) stop motion, Stop Motion, Stop Motiooooooooooon
Another awesome documentary guys! Do you think you will ever do a documentary about history/military brickfilms? I would be happy to help you guys 😃
Oh no just when I thought the world has surely been spared the knowledge that I once created the weird mash-up of Star Wars, Salt Lake City, and Eyes Wide Shut, i found it referenced in a video of the dark ages of brick films :D. This was a fantastic watch and yeah I had to actually drop the first 2 films off my website in order to make room for Salt Lake Spaceport. Good job putting this together, I wasn't aware of anything prior to my stuff except Starlego because (like you said) sharing was not easy online and then after I did Lego Menace I finally started connecting to a couple other brick filmmakers. So it is nice to watch what was happening on tape prior to online. I did actually make a trailer of SL Spaceport to try to hype it up as it was taking so long to make. I still have it. I think it's better than the actual film :)
Thanks for the comment; it's great to hear from you. I would be interested in seeing that trailer, if you want to upload it. I am curious if you remember what the 6 films listed on LEGO Compulsion were, or if you remember how you got in contact with Russ Jensen, who is also listed as being involved with that site.
@@sillypenta So... here's the thing :D I don't remember anything about Lego Compulsion. A friend sent me to a wiki last year and was like "hey your old lego movies are mentioned here and there is a page about you" and when I read about Lego Compulsion I told him it must be a mistake of the author. Looking again at web archive which your footage also shows, it's very clear that I must have done it as my name is all over and there is mentions of it from my xmission page. So I guess it's true! :D
I was like 21 and always loved Lego and me and my friend Russ (Gatrell) really liked film and I thought I wanted to maybe try to get into film programs and after finding Starlego I was like yeah let's try this out. I didn't know anyone else. People (I assume Russ Jensen too) were contacting me like "hey I made one too check it out" and I enjoyed building sites at the time so I must have thought it would be a good idea to have some sort of directory for these :) but luckily better people came along like Brickfilms lol.
I had a lot of fun doing them and wanted to do more but my personal life got away from me a bit and what would end up being my real career took off. Over time I think the weirdness of Salt Lake Spaceport plus a lot of ambitious things that didn't work out ended up being a huge source of embarrassment for me (but my friends were loving it and sharing it and thankfully kept copies of it cuz i lost mine including the uncompressed version.) It's funny that in the context of everything it has a small place in the history of sharing these online.
@@kellyjeffery2897 Thanks for all the info. I hope you are proud of Salt Lake Spaceport now; it is considered to be one of the best brickfilms of the 90s. Before I had tracked down a copy of it, it was one the most desirable "missing" brickfilms, as people who have been in the community for a long time would still sometimes mention it. I did search for you online and tried any old email addresses I could find, but I never managed to get in contact, so it took me by surprise to see you commenting here haha. I eventually managed to find that somebody had uploaded all three of your brickfilms to Dailymotion in 2006, which is how I finally acquired them.
@@sillypenta Thank you for the kind words. I was debating on outing myself or not when I saw this ;) . I am definitely "over myself" about it now and I think I struggle to appreciate anything i've done artistically. The films were so fun and now I have two LEGO obsessed girls that who knows, maybe I will help them make some stop motion at some point. :D
14:19 Oh I get it
hey???? sonichu???????
Lakitou made it..
Very interesting stuff. Good video
Thank you
I like stop-motion history.
I hope we will eventually see the rising success of Pagonimation and its association with the Lego company!
The next video will cover The LEGO Group's first encounter with Pagano
Awesome!
The 90’s. What a time to be alive.

First person I have encountered who gets it
@@sillypenta It's a pretty fun comic! Anyway, I really enjoyed your brickfilming history series. It was very in-depth and the skits in-between felt like a natural addition (Plus I hadn't seen some of these in 20 years, like the "Haunted" one from the next video)
Can’t wait for the classic “A trip to Walmart” to be covered.
But in seriousness you should cover “lego clan” it’s actually one of the few brickfilms that I know that has an homage to in another brickfilm
It will be mentioned eventually, but it does make a brief appearance in this video
the second i saw Lego Raceway
i fucking KNEW it was chris
Yes it’s here!!!!
Cool! Which Brickfilmers will be in the part of the 2010s? TitanPictures? Michaelhickoxfilms? Joleo Studios? Madbrickmotion? Oh, I'm excited!!
‘I feel like we’re in danger’
‘Oh don’t worry we’re not’
[knights show up]
Did get a chuckle out of me
We need part 3!
Working hard on it at the moment. it will be large
It's finally here. :)
About time indeed
This series great
thanks
What is the early 2000’s video, with a ninja and voice over. Phrases like “ah ha! We meet again for the first time!” And “show me where you hid the Chaka eye, and I’ll cut off your hand”. “Don’t you mean, or you’ll cut off my hand?”. “No.”. As well as “look Steve, a bugurglar!”

Hey this is cool
nice!
I wonder if you’re going to mention Pizzamovie’s 501st series. It hasn’t aged well but I remember everyone tried to make their own rip off of it
I will if I manage to reach the part covering the early years of brickfilming on UA-cam, which would be Part 6 by my current plan
sillypenta “the 2000s changed everything” as in instead of covering whole decades it’s now individual years. Jokes aside, I’m looking forward to it. I’m loving this series so far. I grew up on early brickfilm UA-cam so that stuff is really nostalgic. I’m kinda excited to see who will make the cut, Forestfire is the only one I think is a lock. But take your time, I’m sure part 3, 4, and 5 will be great too.
a tracklist for this video would be great, there are a lot of great music tracks in this video
4:04 Aphex Twin - Delphium
5:14 Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well
6:39 Traffic - Glad
8:11 The Doors - The End
10:12 Ether Real - Zap
11:43 KMFDM - Son of a Gun
13:58 Air - Remember
15:03 Tuatara - Smugglerõs Cove
16:56 and 22:20 DOOM II soundtrack - The Healer Stalks
anything else is from the audio track of one of the films
@@sillypenta thanks, man. Really hoping to see more of this series sometime, I'm really enjoying it.
@@nefariousgremlin7554 Thanks. I got the voiceover for the next one recorded, and I am editing the video now

What a weird reference to Cristian Chandler
congrats on being first to mention it
sillypenta didn’t he make another stop motion video in 2005?
if he did, please link it to me
If someone from ILM and probably George Lucas saw “star Lego”. Could that mean it might’ve influenced the conception of Lego Star Wars as a whole?

Oh no! One of the videos (called: the blob) is blocked in my country for some reason
When’s Part 3?
When is part 3 coming out

History of LEGO Studios
@@sillypenta I thought it was going to be about the 2000s..
Though that would require 2 parts at the least, the 2000s were HUGE when it comes to brickfilming.
It will be the first part of a number covering the 2000s

Oh my gosh you made a Chris Chan joke oh my gosh

wait what were u saying is wrong with the american commercials??
They're goofy/cheesy, though perhaps it was silly to make such a judgement of kids commercials in the pursuit of only wanting to see stop-motion lol
@@sillypenta ohh lol. I was just confused cause I didn't see what was wrong with the clip u showed. I see now lol.
I can already think of 2000's brickfilms to discuss for next episode:
Nathan Wells: Beast, History of the Minifig
Zach Macias: Mirrored Perspective
Doug Vandegrift: America - Outlawed, Pirates
The Day Brickfilms.com Crashed
Spite Your Face Productions: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Han Solo Affair
Maxime Marion: Henri & Edmond
Most of the films by the Brothers Boyle (Captain Bulldog, Philosopher Shale, TwoBit WiseGuy)
You know what you are talking about. Before the likes of those classics, I will be covering the years 2000 - 2003
