That video is from 1994. Kankkunen ran #1 in 1994, in 1995 he was #2. You also hear the commentator mentioning the car debuted earlier in the year, in 1995 they ran the full season. Also in 1995 this type of special stage was run at night.
It's crazy that they used to put on events like this every year between championships with the actual competiting cars. Now we just have drive of champions. Rally cross is similar but those cars are on steroids and don't compete in actual stage events.
Yeah, not so much off the line in 1st or 2nd gear, but you can see it when he’s exiting a corner, perhaps in 3rd or 4th gear. There’s a significant amount of extra torque being delivered. You can hear the extra boost and see the additional acceleration when compared to the Subaru.
1995..... The St205 debuted in October 1994 at the Sanremo rally driven by Juha Kankkunen at the end of the championship as a test for the following year. I was present during the race !!!
It cant be, KKK was nº2 in 1995 and McRae 5, that was the Australia non WRC event from 1994, just Asian-Pacific championship, it was even explained in the video.
ST205 debuted in the Mänttä Rally just before Finland. In WRC Finland itself KKK drove again the ST185. Then he drove the ST205 in F2 only Australia 94, then in the last WRC events San Remo and RAC, all part of preparation of the 95 WRC season. So indeed this is Australia 94.
I want that Turbo bypass valve technology on a modern car. I wonder how reliable it would be 🤔. I don't see a reason to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
It was never written anywhere that what Toyota did was legal or illegal, just coz the other companies dont have such tech, they made it illegal ... later on everyone is using it when they caught up in tech :P
The celica with the turbo by pass valve 😂
💯 You can see it in the straights. Still my favorite rally car, all-time

Both are incredible cars!!!!
It was a great event. Can't believe we let it go.

David Lapworth (Prodrive) was right about the speed of that Toyota (if you watch Chris Harris' Colin McRae tribute on Top Gear, you know)...

Is this when the Celica was cheating with the bypass valve on the Turbo?
1995
Subaru!!!!!!!!
Definitely 1994.
Toyota celica is too much for everyone
Kankkunen was the talent, McRae the brainless.
Celica uses illegal 30+ hp Tunibg
Cope, that was during WRC, not in this event 😏
@@Cheaty_Four The same

@@ijuineiwa Later when Toyota removed illegal chip, Subaru on the same hp smoked it
@@瘰 2 years blank, Toyota didnt even wanna be in it anymore
