      Honestly, i don't consider myself very smart, but the very first thing i would question is the large suspiciously-hollow-feeling ring that could easily house fuel. And i say that it feels like it's hollow cause if it wasn't, the weight would be multiplied by like 4 at least.

    I'm amazed to see how this project went way over so many heads. The wick hanging down is supposed to indicate that it runs on air, and is not soaking in fuel as one would expect. 1000 down votes because people can't seem to grasp the ingenious design and precision that went into making this lighter, incredible.

      I knew when I saw it. I thought the round body was hollow and recall seeing other things done here knew he hollowed it out with his excellent lathe skills. 👍👍👍👍👍

      are you that daft @@aladdinmaarouf6752? It's meant to LOOK like the wick that is going down into the space in the middle is where the fuel is meant to be sucked up from. Not the body of the lighter. He's not saying it runs without fuel, he's saying it's made to LOOK like it is.
      Really, it's not that complex a concept.

      No idea why he isn't putting the lighter up on eBay for the highest bidder. If he did that with all his products he'd be filthy rich. People would spend a fortune for a one of a kind item, and it'll be cool to show people the how it's made video.

    • @doerian5483
      @doerian5483 6 років тому

      ColdFishHead Selling them would mean he'd need a patent of the products, otherwise people who buy it could massively produce and sell them or even sue him for taking the credits of 'their' idea... 🤔

    • @lkjslkdjfglkjsldkfjl
      @lkjslkdjfglkjsldkfjl 6 років тому

      Doerian you don't need to patent anything to sell anything and you won't get sued. Everyone on Amazon does this. They buy crap from China and stamp their own logo on it, then sell it for more. Long as you're not buying a name brand product and changing it's name, you're good. I've done this myself with a product from China, and I'm all good!

      Most people wouldn't want to buy it due to price. Handcrafted crafts take a LONG time to make and an apprentice machinist rate is around 20 USD/Hour. He probably took around 4 - 5 hours just to make it. Add in the cost of materials, tools and profit and suddenly you have a lighter that costs $200 or more.

    • @kneejo-tube
      @kneejo-tube 6 років тому

      Not really.. a master would have taught this guy proper ways of using his tools. Many of the things he does are pretty much cringe worthy.. a master would't polish the material to make it look pretty.. he would use the right, sharp tools and the right rpm on the machine to accomplish a good surface. Polishing like the guy in the video does is only done by people who never learned how to use their tools properly. I've been in this trade and studied under an actual master to know enough to say something like this. ;)

    For people saying that the guy lied in the title, obviously a lighter needs some kind of fuel, it’s supposed to look like it doesn’t which is why there’s a wick hanging in the middle.If you don’t know how fire works you should go back to high school because that is basic chemistry. Fire can’t happen without fuel. It’s not like it takes away from watching someone craft their own lighter out of nothing which is something most people can’t do. I think it’s a pretty good god damn video.

    Mesmerizing. You are an artistic craftsman of the highest order. It's so beautiful to watch you work. I used a diamond tip lathe when I made contact lenses many years ago, but I don't know how to do what you did. Just Amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. Thank You.

    When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was much smaller. (like the size of a ring) and the fuel it used was the oil in your skin. Bit sad that I had my dreams dashed. :(

    Excellent work, the way you assemble a working mechanism after design is beautiful. Beauty of your video however is that you don't reveal the design, so it's exciting to see a new component taking shape, function of which you can guess only.

    Also you did a great job thinking ahead of time by putting the fill port in a way that the lighter stands upright for a display or just sitting on a coffee table......
    How long does the fluid last ?? Between the time you fill and have to refill ?????

    • @badline8621

      I totally agree. great looking lighter. But if someone handed it to me and tried to pass it off as no fuel, I'd just twist at the knurls first chance I got. Clearly though, this is amazing craftsmanship with an amazing attention to detail.

    Very, very cool! What brand of lathe to you use for this high precise work? I've a Wemas (i think it's simmilar to the Clarke CL500).. I'am new to turning.. but, i think this is not possible with my machine.. - It's very relaxing to watch your videos..i can watch it for hours.. i hope we see more of it! Best regards from germany! "Supposedly" burns without fuel. Has a giant fuel reservoir built in, has a wind screen to prevent the fuel vapors from blowing out, gets a wick and fuel before it's lit... Not really the best "trick" out there. But good job on the clickbait title, it's got you a million views. I think I could probably fool anyone up to toddler age with this "trick" lighter, but once they realize any fire needs fuel to burn... *sigh*

    My great grandfather made a lighter that was basically a big nut with 2 pennies soldered on either side. Don't know what happened to it but it might be deep in a certain family home.
