This programme takes me back to Sunday teatime with my parents watching Arthur Negus

Hello. Joyce Blair single handedly holding back the women's movement. Mistaking a pistol for a bottle. Then dropping part of it. Joyously of its period.

We used to enjoy playing the Going for a Song boardgame back in the 70's.

I was just sixteen months old and in the pushchair at the time of this footage. Too young to understand or remember that period. My memory of Arthur Negus was over ten years later!

Thought the first item may of been a Nibble Wanger.

I always thought Max Robertson unbelievably pompous and clearly considered the guest celebrities more of a hindrance. Spike Milligan's
appearances was a breath of anarchistic air, as he proceded to send up the shows pretentious style and thoroughly pissed off the humourless Max by pricing items ridiculously high.I don't believe he received a return invitation.

This is so delightfully mesmerising and restful. I saw one later episode which was not nearly as good because they attempted to liven it up. Big mistake. Incessant laughter, forced gaiety, ‘jokes’ and jolly tones is in reality rather irritating and a deception to make people think they’re having a good time. Therefore very patronising. It is totally unnecessary.
This episode educates not only in the fascinating topic of antiques but also how to communicate naturally. People interested in the topic don’t require a comedy act. Laughing can be vastly overrated.
