  • In todays video we will be carving a life sized buck! This was my first time chainsaw carving a buck, or a deer for that matter! It was such a fun animal to carve and I look forward to carving more deer in the future. This carving was ordered as a gift for a hunter, I hope this big handsome fella makes them happy for years to come! :) Cheers!

      Working on getting a bar now! Just so many options 😂! Was thinking of getting a quarter tip? Was given an experienced carvers phone number by Cannon and I plan to call him today to chat about options that will work with my CS1500 :)
      Ps. The electric saw was very underpowered for a project of this size (to be expected). This right here is the project that made me realize I need a gas saw for blocking lol!

      @@TayMarie23 well you did an amazing job..I'm just converting my Oregon electric saw to 1/4 pitch..received all the parts apart from a bar which is on route( The long way around) from the far east! So cannot wait..Infact it was you who gave me the valued advise on my chainsaw recently, so I'm very grateful for that..May be you can tell me if one can use a 12 inch 1/4 pitch to block out as well as detailing work?...Anyway, TayMarie, Do keep these projects going..fantastic carvings!

      @@johnprice1914 What bar did you order and from where? Is it a carving bar, quarter or dime tip? I would not block with a dime tip but a quarter tip could hold up to blocking! I run a 12" 1/4 pitch mini roller, which is practically a quarter tip, on my small to medium blocking saw!

      @@TayMarie23 well actually I found it to be an utter mine field of conflicting info..Canon told me that their bars weren't compatible with my CS1800..I had various other suppliers not willing to commit too..I found I was clutching at straws to be honest but I did find a 1/4 inch sprocket and chain that did fit..The bar is a universal carving bar called Ozarki( don't laugh ok) but I just felt my options were limited so I've bitten the bullet just to see if I have success!.. living in the UK doesn't give selections of dime tip or 1/4 tip so I just do loads of homework and hope for the best!..Watch this space as they say...I hope I haven't taken too much of your time in messages TayMarie but value your input and of course love watching your Vlogs..You are an inspiration I have to say...Thankyou again.

      @@TayMarie23 im tempted to get one to be honest, especially when i do night carvings or cant be arsed to fuel constantly, that self sharpening would be tempting..lol. Get a stihl ms170 and put a detail dime tip bar on it, works great and not that expensive. i noticed the greenworks saw to, is it any good?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому +1

      I’m between Echo, Stihl, or Husqvarna for gas, people seem to get so loyal to a brand and then bash the others 😂 I have heard great things about each thought! Is the ms170 strong enough for blocking medium to large projects?
      The greenworks saw is honestly great, the battery life is what I expected it would be 30-45ish minutes of run time! Only takes the battery like 15-20 minutes to charge to full from dead on my normal charger and I don’t even have the speed charger! But….the corded saw just feels so much better in my opinion then the battery. The corded feels more responsive, more instant juice, no battery swaps, and no trying to time charges! But I will say…not having to deal with the cord is soooo nice!

    • @alid8646
      @alid8646 Рік тому +1

      @@TayMarie23 haha, yeah I've noticed that myself, im not a slut for any brand, as long as it works, its good. but those 3 thet youu mention seem to be the popular 3. No i wouldnt use it for blocking, just for details with a dime tip bar (will probably have to change the sprocket for a dime tip, but im sure you already know about that) its lighter so easier to handle. Id get at least a 45cc to 60cc if you want one for blocking. ms 170 is like 32 cc i think.
      Ah interesting, i havent got a battery one yet, the stihl ones are way to expensive for me to justfy it, so have been looking at other options. whats the model number on the greenworks. Doesn the self sharpening chain work ok on the oregon?

    • @TayMarie23
      @TayMarie23  Рік тому

      Greenworks has a lot of options, I can’t find the model number but it’s the 40V 16in with the 4AH battery. They have two in their 40V system, one takes one 40V batter and the other takes two 24V batteries - I got the one that takes the one 40V.
      The sharper honestly does work on the Oregon saw but I think it shortens the life of the chain because it grinds it down, that’s how it sharpens. You need to use a special low profile chain if you use the sharpener, chain usually comes with a new sharpening stone. But if you don’t want to us the sharpener you can slap whatever 18” chain you want on there!

      Depends on so many factors, wood type, level of detail, desired finish type, etc. Each project is individually priced out, something as simple as wood type can double the cost of a carving!
