We think about what the robots will do for us. but think far less about what that will mean for us. Isaac Asimov has explored the topic of a society dependent on robots in depth. The dependence of humans on one another can erode when there is a robot. The social bonds are displaced. Humans can end up living in near isolation because they nolonger need eachother. Or they can become more and more like children because the robots coddle them and protect them from harm and take care of all their needs.
It’s incredible how much progress they’ve made with robotics. They’re getting more and more human and animal-like everyday. Looks like it’s only a matter of time before we have actual C-3PO’s, Robocops and Terminators.
Imagine having a C-3PO home assistant, you can ask him anything an in half a second he's gone through millions of search results and gives you an answer, or a translation, or a calculation. Exciting stuff! Maybe a bit far off but i'm hopeful for the possibilities.
Well why don’t you give this guy $20-$30 thousand dollars and invest in his company so he can play around with his toys some more... Robots that can’t even get a soda for you....Its an investor scam
@@jamesjazzy8040 Actually Boston Dynamics has a majority shareholder in Hyundai ($7 Billion I believe). But if you want to buy a robot, then the yellow “dog like” robot Spot can be bought for $70,000 odd.
I think the prudent thing would be to get experts together in a forum where they can create a maximal ruleset for robotic use. That should then include thresholds for relaxing certain rules under certain circumstances. Honestly the FDA drug approval pipeline might not be a bad template to start with. But make the rules very tight first and then force the development companies to show safety via regimented trials before loosening the rules up. This should be done in stages, defined by the inherent safety issues and intended uses. If a robot acting in the real world is anywhere in the vicinity of reliability as my autocorrect, I want it shirt dewn.
There are three rules of robotics. They were proposed by Isaac Asimov. They state :- First Law A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. Second Law A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. Third Law A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
