I found the old flour factory interesting and I loved the architecture all around the city, but my favourite part was seeing the beautiful garden around the Mayor’s house. The Abby was gorgeous and the history about the glass windows was fascinating also Jane Austin’s house. Lol I’m just going to say I loved it all ☺️
And the jewel in the crown, the water meadows? When I lived in St Catherine's Road, Winchester I commuted daily to Twickenham, south London. An horrendous grind up and down the motorway. Nose to tail, there and back. On summer's evenings I'd get changed as soon as I got home and take a walk down to the water meadows, alongside the playing fields of Winchester College along the riverside. The stresses of the day would fall away. A pint at the Black Boy pub on the way home. Beyond happiness. I moved from there to Petersfield, down the A27. One of the most beautiful roads in England. Hampshire is a beautiful county. I miss it dearly.
Loved seeing the history of your town… I love really old towns and seeing the history.. and in particular the Tudor houses… and all the old stone.. in Sydney we also have all the old wrought iron as well on the old houses..
I loved the water mill. I think it was ingenious of our ancestors to use a water wheel to drive the cogs that powered the grinding stones to grind flour. It sounds so rudimentary by today's technological standards, but I find it charming and the energy is free. That's a place where I could happily spend hours. Hopefully the village green will burst back to life after all manifestations of Covid can be beaten. Winchester looks like a great place and I was delighted by the old architecture. Such an awesome video. I hope you both had a fantastic St Pat's Day, the bits we (your audience) didn't get to see. Not meaning anything of a private nature.
Absolutely wonderful tour around your city, loved loved it💖. Sooooo much history. I watched a documentary on churches/cathedrals and I'm sure it was hosted by Tony Robinson and he mentioned that about the broken windows. Fascinating, thanks Charlie and Rob👏👏🥰

Thank you so much Charlie and Rob for showing us your beautiful city, I’m a 65 year old grandma who would have loved to travel but never made it over sea’s and this is my favourite video of you both so far, loved your holiday ones but this one felt special so ty. I had a fall a week ago and broke my shoulder this put a smile on my face
I so enjoy these Saturday videos... what a gorgeous area. Loving the old stone buildings, the little bit of history, shame about the pub though. Hope you both have a great weekend x
Thank you very much Charlie and Rob for showing us all your wonderful home city.Looks a very nice place to live.Love the historic architecture of English cities, towns and villages.Take care always.
That was a great tour Rob and Charlie, it’s a lovely thing about Europe and the UK is all the historical buildings. We don’t have so much of that here. Mainly wild animals and birds and a lot of space
Arhhhh lots of memories of all those places. We were booked for a weekend just before COVID but cancelled and finally went in October. We loved the fact that for an important historical city it’s very compact and you can get around everything quite easily. Talking of Wessex……. We have just finished the last season of The Last Kingdom on Netflix, not sure if you have seen it …. but one of the best tv series EVER! Not usually my thing but loved it 😍
You have it spot on. There is so much history but as you say it's nice and compact so you can do everything in a long day/weekend. I've not seen it. I will add it to my list!

NICE video! Thanks for showing us some of your home town. I love old buildings & unfortunately Oz is too new, except down at The Rocks near the Opera House, where the 1st settlement was established. They have a market down there every Sunday (I think that still happens). Thanks for showing me Jane Austen's house...PRIDE & PREJUDICE (which I need to read every year as I teach it, my fav classic novel anyway); NORTHANGER ABBEY; EMMA; SENSE & SENSIBILITY, PERSUASION & MANSFIELD PARK (the others are not as famous)....

"Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over" Sorry mate can't help myself . If I wasn't so poor I'd go to the UK. It's one of my dream destinations
I’ve not been back to Winchester in ages! So was fun to see that it hasn’t really changed. Someone I went to school with used to live in Jane Austin’s house and it is really quirky inside. You missed out the Hampshire hog and the round table!
Hey Laurie, I hope the north is serving you well! 😂 To be fair I missed a lot of stuff such as wolvesley castle. Didn't want to make the video too long. Plus we have about 3 hours to film.
Great glimpse of Winchester. My g, g, g, g grandfather's trial was convened at the Winchester Castle in 1814. He was sentenced to death, but fortunately received a pardon and was transported to New South Wales in 1815. Is the Winchester Castle in your video?
I'm going to assume you mean Wolvesey Castle. It was just down from the college and Jane Austen's house but we didnt go there. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolvesey_Castle
Thanks for showing us around your home town. It’s beautiful. Is it true that King Alfred was the first to establish the jury system? The judgement amongst your peers? I think I read that somewhere.

Mansfield Park! Northanger Abbey ,and all of them! all!Pride and Prejudice with Matthew Macfadyen and Keira Knightley is a masterpiece for me! After watching this movie I couldn't come to my senses for 4 days.... Jesus, the way he looked at her with those blue eyes, you men have something in your eyes... you have such a piercing gaze!...Im a fan of old-time romantic films, I check regularly whether there are any new films of this type on Netflix.
Don’t you love being a tourist in your own town …I thought I’d been to Jane Austin’s house but I was wrong it was the Brontë sisters at Harworth and Shakespeare in Stratford upon Avon so not even close
Albo polecam jeszcze film o samej Jane Austen Czyli "Zakochana Jane"z Anne Hathaway i James McAvoy... OMG!😅też żyłam tym filmem długie tygodnie,eh to melodramat.....😢
I didn't realise you two were from one of the most important cities in English history. I mean without Wessex and Winchester they'd likely never have been a unified England.
Is Winchester a place you would like to visit? Which part of the video interested you the most?

What a beautiful city.
Thanks for taking us on a walk through your community and the history lessons
It was a small history lesson for me too! 😅

F I love the Tudors… obviously not for their viciousness lol, but damn they’re entertaining to learn about.
I also love the Tudors, especially Anne Boleyn

Awesome, had a meal break in Adelaide city yesterday and saw some plaques from 1850's old as it gets here, but this if so much more historic.
haha yes Winchester dates back a tad before 1850 :D

Exactly, Winchester is a very important city for the creation on England. But I think a lot of people wouldnt even know where Winchester is.
Is that Putin on that horse? (Jokes) .. Bare chest etc 😜😆
Haha not quite. I have no idea who it is. Us from Winchester just call it the man on the horse
Wasn't there a plague with information on it.
Didn’t he burnt the cake!?
I'm sure that is the story. Good knowledge! 🤣
