- You can skip the tedious “Poverty, Chastity and Obedience” quest by killing Pious without joining the Monks.
All you have to do is to sneak inside the Monastery (there is an unlocked door shown in the video) and kill your target. Pious is impersonating a novice by the nome of Antonius: with this knowledge you can kill him and avoid one of the most stressing quests in the whole game.
I was able to kill him undetected but the interesting thing is even if some monk notice you and call the guards everything you do in the Monastery will have no impact on your reputation in Sasau, even if you kill the guards.
Strangely enough when I tried to kill all the monks (just one of the many tests I do) my reputation in the monastery went from 50 to 100: even monks hate that monastery lol :)
If you kill Pious without joining the monks you won’t learn the story behind his past and you won’t be able to complete a couple of side quests available only if you join the Monastery. An achievement requires to complete all quests and if you won’t be able to unlock it if you skip this quest.
The quest itself is a rather detailed description of the monks life and so if you are interested in the historical aspect of this game you may find the concept interesting, or at least curious.
However “Poverty, Chastity and Obedience” is a stressing quest like you never experienced before.
In order to enter the Monastery you need to meet a guy who has been “forced” to become a Monk because he “annoyed” (to use an understatement) an influent Lord. You need to acquire a wit from the man who is “escorting” him. However he will never give it to you. No matter how high your Speech, Charisma or Intimidation is he will not get what you are asking; even if the persuasion is successful: you read “success” but it has no effect.
He has the wit with him during day and when he sleeps he puts it in an easy lock.
You can either kill him but most likely some is going to see you and call the guards (I made some test and I was able to do it without repercussions only once with the bow) or steal it from the easy lock (if you are on console like me the lockpicking mini-game is painful).
Inside the Monastery you need to follow the strict rule and you have to make sure you take care of the right tasks in the right period of the game (It appears most times you can’t even skip time) or the monks will throw you in the cell and spend there about a day (like if guards threw you in jail).
A stressing quest which risks to make you hate the game. I’m usually a “completionist” but I skipped this quest for this very reason.
If your Henry has good morals consider Pious is not a very good person. He was one of the bandits involved in the Neuhof massacre and even though his cronies said they just wanted to rob and not to slaughter he was the one who convinced them to join the group of Runt and company. So you are not killing an innocent: you are killing a criminal who hid in a Monastery hoping its juridical status granted him total immunity.

I sneaked in. Killed him and brought the corpse to the place I had to meet up with these bad guys. After cutscene, Kozlik or what's his name in english saw the body and started panicking about a dead corpse. Devs really didn't thought about that. LOL. Made my day.
Interesting scene :) Your sneaking skills should be impressive if you managed to carry him out of the monastery and to the meeting. I recall the meeting point was not very close to the monastery. Ninja skills for sure :)

I traded the lockpick for food (I had 12 at lockpicking so I didn't worry about missing the attempt), I waited for the night, I knocked him out, brought him out of the monastery and got my stuff back.
I was ready to bring him to justice but unfortunately the developers didn't think about this option, as soon as he woke up he was in monk mode and just went back to the monastery, but stealth/thief builds could have done that, that's unfortunate that they didn't add that option

Hey everyone, I just did this on version 1.9. The door at :30 was locked for me, but I was able to go around the door on the right and get to where the prior. I took his key and the door ahead was locked, so I went back down outside. Waited to 22.5 hours, and used the key to go in the monastary and went to the room of the video, I had the sneak clothes on but was still being detected. So I went to pieous, stealth killed him, looted him and then the others woke up and called the guards. As soon as I looted him I hightailed it out of there, down the stairs, down the hallway, out the door, out the courtyard and kept running until the guards stopped chasing. Went back there in the morning, no bounty no worries 👍 Sad because the devs probably thought this quest would be so awesome and interesting lol. F this quest so much!

Btw I did notice what you do there have no effect in the nearby city: you can even go berserker attacking everyone and you get no bounty.

First I like your comment but I don't think the quest is "bad". It is worth playing once for sure. Kingdom Come is a game with a lot of freedom so the monastry just nails it to be restricted. And you still have the freedom of mechanics. You can kill for example every monk guard (circators). There actually is an event when you kill someone undetected. When they find the body everyone have to go to the garden to be searched.
And if you really hate it they give you the freedom to just sneak in and kill him.
Great mission design and great mission I think.

Bricks and Seven Probably. But I have 20 sneak, pickpocket, lockpicking, so I'm pretty much a stealth God even when I'm wearing shiny full plate armor. I also playing with increased carry weight mod so I can steal 2 tons of stuff at a go.
That's good to know :) My concern was about the door being locked in the most recent patches (it happens quite often with doors in this game) and I'm glad to know it is still working :)

Thats what im doing now i just slaughterrd a bunch of monks in they sleep. Im stuck in a coroner now waiting for the grave digger and gaurds to leave
You can also snɩpe him from the top of the catwalks when he's doing his afternoon gardening.
Just pick the Main Door Lock at 1 am. Sneak attack him while he sleeps. Saves a lot of bother.
For this I started the quest, then denied the tour from him then knocked him out, killed him and put his body behind the altar. Then i slept and waited for the morning prayer to start, knocked the prior out cause no one else had gotten there took the key then exited out the basement door. In and out in less than an ingame day.
Very nice move: well done :) It seem many paths involves knocking out the prior hehe. Anyway, the most important thing is always to find a way to skip the most annoying, boring and stressing parts of this quest. You did it, so you can call your plan successful :)
I just stormed the monastery and warhammered novices until I got the right one, then ran like hell without even alarming a guard. Just a lot of monks running for their lives. Didn't have time to become a monk, the Rattay tourney was the next day. 😁
It's a fun quest imo even doing it the "right" way.
Drank with the Circators at night, managed tobscrounge up enough coin by brewing cockreel potions during the time when we're supposed to work at the frattery and got lockpicks from Cellarius.
Then I did the quest to sneak out to get wine from the Custodian cunt, retrieved my gear while i was at it, and then suddenly the rest of the quest was a cakewalk.
At some point I stopped going to mass, speech skill was high enough to pass the Circator's skill checks so they didn't put me into solitary in the rare case they spot me somewhere I shouldn't be, did all the sidequests, and everything was smooth sailing until I decided to sneak out to take part in the Rattay tourney and the Circators would kick me out of the monastery when I got back.
So all I had to do was avoid them until I could escape with Antonious.
I also stole Siskin's dagger and replaced it with a regular one. This dagger is cool
Yes, that quest is great, once you get the hang of it. I can see why people don't like it, though. They should have made it less tedious, where you can skip till the end of an activity directly.
The door is unlocked when you go in the morning to midday from 7 o clock to 5 o clock in the evening if anyone wants to know👌😎
Thanks for the info :) This is very useful to know. You may want to sneak in when the door is opened, find a place to hide and then strike during night to avoid being seen, for example.

You can also get the monastery key and go in the front door at night which is way easier👍
Yes, you can try sneaking inside the small room where the gatekeeper sleeps (it's exactly below the door where I enter in this video), and steal the key. In such way you have full access to the Monastery. Just be careful to not get caught when you steal the key or walk inside through the main door.
I got kicked out of monastery so I had to do it lol
I climbed the scafold tower, waited till 8am, then fucking fell onto the garden roof, broke my legs, this I shot him with an arrow, proceeded to then, again, walk off the roof, rebreak my legs, then get out scott free.
That's indeed another option if you really can't sneak inside the monastery. Did you kill Pious or just a "random" monk? You can actually complete the quest by killing a random monk but I prefer to kill him and not some innocent guy :)
Theres also a monks habit and robe you can steal in sasau. I found it in the armorers trunk. Maybe you could use it as a disguise like how you can with cuman armor
That would be very interesting. Did you already try it out? I wonder if the monks can be fooled with a disguise or if they don't recognise your face and deny access to the monastery without the "proper procedure". I'm very curious. Let me know how things go, if you try this plan.
@@bricksandseven9295 Late reply, but I found out that unfortunately they realize you're not a monk even when wearing the habit. I guess it makes sense in a way. They spend their entire life in that monastery so I'm sure they'd recognize a new face.

Some of the doors might be locked, but try and go around checking other doors, one of them will lead to the prior for the key.

He wasn't there. When I took a look around a bunch of guards appeared, which shouldn't have happened.
What was the time, night or day? NPCs tend to be in different places depending on the time of the day.
@@bricksandseven9295 I had actually forgotten to talk to that bandit guy before getting into the monestary. The guards might have seen the opened door and rushed in.
A useful trick is to always close the door when you sneak in. The AI may not be super smart sometimes but they seem to notice things like open doors and guards often rush in. However, unless recent patches changed it, it appears if you go "rampage" inside the monastery it won't affect the reputation in the nearby town. At least that happened when I tried the "brute force" option just for fun :)
I steal the documents from the guardian and enroll as a monk. Then in the early hours sneak in kill antonious and lock pick my way out. You need to be at least level nine to do it

I'm glad I helped :) Doing the whole "become a monk" quest can be a little stressing (at least for me) so it's good to have an alternative.
I have now killed him from the roof. Climbed the scaffold. One shot to the head. He ran inside so at first I thought darn it didn’t work. Climbed down scaffold went about my day and within about 5 minutes it said I had completed quest. I was like “YES!” Finally. I was in monastery for too long lol.
That's good :) Did you kill Pious or just one the Novices? I ask because it appears you can actually kill a random novice and still lie to the bandits and tell them you killed your target. For "roleplaying" reasons I prefer to kill Pious himself since I don't want to see an innocent killed.
Anyway the Monastery quests can be very painful: I'd do anything to end it as fast as possible lol :)
The quest said Kill Pious complete so I assume I did. I still had to lie to bandits though because I didn’t have the special die.
That's what matters. If you managed to persuade the bandits then all is good.
Anyway I think the quest says you killed Pious even if you kill a random novice (it's just a bit "dubitative" in the description added to your log) but in the end what matters is to lose sanity lol over this nightmarish quest :)
Where is this scaffolding? My game is bugged and I cannot pick locks or even walk only run (which limits my sneaking) making this quest a friggin nightmare

I snuck onto the rooftops, put an arrow in the first white robe I saw then got out of there.
Game assumed I had killed Pious, and I paid the bandits 3000 Groschen as proof. Never stepped foot inside the monastery :D (not for the quest).
Use a black hood and hunters gloves and black chaperone and get Forester perk in Hunting and reach level ten in Hunting then you can deal with high level bandits using stealth and check for top 5 bandit camp location's and get nighthawk potion take out the bandits who are awake take one out and then get away then wait and get another and take out sleeping but if you can't stealth kill one of then get yes longbow and better piercing arrows and kill the bandit then get lockpicking level 17 and lockpick any chests and take the things that are worth it and search for best horse and horse tack and you can search for chest with 15000+worth of stuff in one chest or is it 150000+ also search for 250000+ worth of stuff in one chest and then sell cheap stuff and gain reputation with traders then sell expensive stuff and lower the price of the items you sell that are cheap so you gain more reputation and go to mill and there's a chest next to the bed you wake up in the awakening quest and put the stuff in that also put the stuff in your horse or you will be slow and not able to get on the horse when you do the chests just take everything and send it to your horse and get out of there but if you beat the game then go to the room sir Hamish gave you and put the stuff in and train with captain Bernard and chose practice weapon and polearm
It's good to see stealth combat is working for you. I found once you get good gear and level up your combat skills you have a more successful "combat record" to say so. Early in the game it can be frustrating when you have to run away if you are attacks by a group of bandits but as your skill evolve you become much more proficient in facing larger groups of enemies.
I snuck it at night. High sneak. Managed to pickpocket all monks and antonius didnt have a die on him to identify him that way. Bollocks, game doesnt
It happened to many players: apparently we can't pickpocket Antonius. I know, it makes no sense. I guess they didn't want to have him easily identified in that way but it's illogical. You can kill him and take the die, if you don't want to play the entire quest. I'm sorry of that issue, I made this video because I know many players have problems with that quest. I do what I can lol :)

Great :) I remember there was a good number of people playing this game on Xbox One on release; even though I can't say if currently the number is still high.
Pretty high... Mike higher than any other console probably.
But high tier bandits stop me and I am a bit Rusty in combat so I only took out one and then died
If you can give them the dice you can persuade them you fulfilled the mission and they won't attack you.
I got to the part on this quest I just ran in and started killing. Took the jail time and reputation reduction happily
At the time I made this video it was even possible to attack them without suffering consequences, as long as your "spree" remained confined to the Monastery. Basically town guards didn't notice you as long as you didn't attack anyone outside the monastery walls. I don't know if recent patches changed this.

The Problem, for first time of playing this game you can't know who Novice Antonius is.
It didn't seem to matter for my game, since I just killed the 1st white robe I saw and it counted.

I kidnapped pious without joining the monks because i want to arrest him... can i even do that?
If you want to arrest him I believe you need to complete the Monastery quests. At one point you have the choice to confront him and then you can decide if proceed with the arrest (he will resist) or fake his death.
If you are asking if sneaking in, knock Pious down and "kidnap" him, I'm afraid the quest won't progress. At least according to my knowledge. You can still give it a try but I recommend (as with all tests) to save before trying it.

I hate this quest too. It's really tedious and if I tried to play it I would have been thrown out as well lol. If you can try to knock out the Prior and take the Monastery key so you can leave the Monastery faster once you killed your target by simply unlocking the main doors. Let me know if everything goes as planned :) I'm sure even if you have been thrown out your target is still there so you can sneak in and kill him :) If you need any help feel free to ask and I'll do my best :)

Sure :) I already have a video on how to easily find plate armor (let me know if you are interested in it) and I can surely work on a video about the best end game plate armor. I only need to complete a quest which can give you the best body armor if you make certain choices during it. There was a time when a certain chest gave you the best armor but they removed it (alongside with anything you got from it) from the game with the last patch.
Anyway I'll try to complete that quest as soon as possible so I can have all I need for the "best plate armor" in the game project :)
Why not after getting key. Go in from where you exited ? Such short distance to pious

@@bricksandseven9295 i disagree i think is a clever quest, is a real undercover quest you need to respect the undercover or you fail, is a little boring but in a cool idea, you actually need to do role-play to successes, you cant go a do waverer you want a kill everybody or dont care at all of the situation, like the lame quest of skyrim that you go undercover to the embassy, you distract one momet and that is all you enter an cat go full berserker and dont mater, i think that is interesting to see this ideas that break the typical "undercover missions"
The problem is not the quest concept which I do agree is interesting since the undercover concept is a cool one but the quest has many design flaws that make it rather complicated and boring. The Name of the Rose (they also made a movie and Tv series form the book) is an enjoyable mystery/detective story set in a monastery but it's not the case with this quest.
In the end the concept may be good but its execution is not and the design made the quest a rather unpleasing experience for the player.

That's another option for sure. When I tried it, I hadn't even problem with the guards outside the monastery. Once I did the Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader stuff lol inside the monastery I simply walked away and the guards in the nearby city didn't bother me. Is it still the case or does the guards now attack you?
I did the stealth kill and guards swarmed in. I had nothing but a dagger so I got kicked out.
What are the Stealth, noise etc levels? Sometimes depending on the level targets makes such a noise when you stealth kill them (making no sense at all). If they also "spot" you before you kill for some reason they seems to "telepathically" inform the guards. I once tested it.
I killed two targets outside Rattay: they spotted me but there was no witness around but when I got back to the city guards were hunting for me. If they spot you the game register it as crime seen in public and guards will be after you. I was hoping the recent patches solved this though.
Anyway, unless it was changed by recent updates, if you kill people inside the Monastery it shouldn't affect the reputation in the near city. So, at least when I tested it, you could enter the Monastery fully armed and armored, kill everyone (guards) included without repercussions outside it. If you can't stealth kill and if you have good equipment you can try that route. Always save before doing it so if things go wrong you can reload :)

Curious what happens if you knock him out, and take him out into the middle of the woods and take the dice? / Just knock him out and take the dice?
There's a comment here from somone who did that, seems it doesn't really work.
Anyways, You don't find the dice on him if you knock him out, apparently that only works after you've already brought him to prison.
Before that you can only kill him or do the whole monastery thing and make a deal, if you keep your word he'll give you the dice.

Pious is actually the novice called Antonius. As you can see in the video once you kill him you can find the dice which confirms his identity. I hope it helps :)

In order to complete the mission you need to report to those who "hired" you. You can either give them his dice or persuade them you took care of him. As for going to jail: did guards try to arrest you?
If not then you have nothing to worry. In my experience guards in the city don't seem to care about what you do in the monastery. Once I tried to load a previous save file to try the "kill them all" approach (I was curious lol) but the guards in the city didn't care.

I heard it happened to several players. I start to think some doors are RNG locked/unlocked lol. Anyway you should try at different times and you can also get a key (which should open even the main door) from a monk sleeping in a room just under, near the main gate. You can sneak in, knock him out as he sleeps and grab the key.
It is also locked for me (very hard lock) , i think it's locked for everyone in the latest patch, so unless you can unluck very hard locks you must become a monk and complete the monk quests in order to kill pious :/

Can you give me few details on the actions you did to complete the quest? Knowing what you did may help in understanding what happened. For example, did you attack the bandits during the meeting etc.
@@bricksandseven9295 well I did the quest as per Quest markers, except I actually became a monk and wanted to Take Pious to Rattay jail like Radzig commanded, but after a few days of boringness I figured out what to do and you have to fake a murder, getting goats blood to act as Pious blood and the keys to the Cloister in the kitchen hidden well, well I did that and the mission told me to meet with Pious in the Dormitory straight after Evening mass so I did that for 2 days in a row and he was not there so I got tired with dealing with this shit and I found him luckily by himself in a lonely hall and got behind him, joked him out and then broke his neck killing him, and then I went into his inventory and pressed the button to take all and I ran out of there as soon as possible, got out the church, got my horse and rode away as far as possible from on of the worst gaming experiences I have had in a long while, anyway I went to the bandits meeting spot and when they asked for the Dice it would not give me the option to give it to them, instead I had to spend 3000 gold despite me checking back in my inventory and the Dice was there, this was after I did this shit again, reloaded a save, killed Pious went to the bandits and still, no option for dialogue and this time I took my time to look through his inventory and picked up the dice exclusively, went back to the bandits and it still did not work So i just gave up, fuck Radzig and continued the game and killing him affects nothing so I regret becoming a monk at all because the monk simulator itself is fucking stupid because the time schedule is all over the place and apparently I'm the only novice who has to follow the schedule exactly and my penalty is this one fucking guy keeps throwing me in the dungeon, even though I was only late by 10 minutes or less.

The whole "monk simulator" as you mentioned is very annoying. Then add the fact the whole quest chain can become bugged as hell and we can all agree this is one of the worse experiences in video gaming industry.
Seriously, I have no idea how someone could design a quest like and actually think it was a good idea. It still puzzles me lol.

When you have more than 350 videos is hard to keep the pace with every single comment. That's a very good question. Let try to recall what I learned when I was plying the game. The key is not to kill Pious or not to kill him but to bring the bandit the dice. If you don't bring them the dice (because for example you killed the wrong novice) then you have to persuade them or a fight will start. Now I suppose, correct me if I'm wrong, you are asking if you can simply trigger the meeting with the Bandits skipping the Pious part completely. The best way to figure it out is to go to meeting location and see if they are there and if you can interact with them. If they are no there then the game requires you to complete the Pious part before triggering the next section of the quest.

That would be interesting. Did you try searching for the camp and see if you can progress the quest? The important thing is to trigger the part when you "unlock" the enemy camp/fortification. It is a story milestone so it's possible it requires a specific series of actions to trigger. If you have an earlier save you can give it a try. I'm very interested in knowing if it can work that way. I will also check if I have an early save myself.

The door at 2:28 is very hard locked for me.
The recent patches changed the difficulty of many locks, so it's possible they changed this one as well. However if you manage to grab the keep from the monks you should be able to enter the monastery. Also it has been reported the door is either opened or lock depending the time of the day, so trying at different times may be a valid tactic.

I remember my character was rather high level and so I had several perks, plus I acquired good gear.
