Also, Beat Hazard, which is more of a bullet-hell 2d space shooter like Galaga and Asteroids combined, with boss fights, takes music from you own library and procedurally generates the enemy spawn patterns and such. You'd probably have a good time with both.

That music level had the actual platforming a lot more synced to the music that usual, IMO. And that's not easy to do. Reminds me of that really old video of an automatic SMW level, under the name "nico nico douga automatic Mario", which I just had to go back and rewatch now. The Wily Castle 2 music starts at 5:57.

Carl, there is a game that is music themed that is a fps. It's centered around metal and you fight demons or something. It's called Hellsinger. It's relatively short and, while it may not be a 2d platformer, it is still a pretty solid concept idea for 'music levels'.
